Our Trip to Kushihiki Hachiman-gu Shrine - In Pictures - Japan Vlog
Here is a little video of the pictures taken during our visit to Kushihiki-hachimangu Shine in Hachinohe, Japan.
The place was very beautiful, sadly we didn't have enough time to explore all of it, but will be going back!
Kushihiki Hachimanguu, Japan National Treasure Shrine

DYA717 Japan 2015 08 02 Aomori NEBUTA festival
Yahoo! This morning’s breakfast had NATTO. Also had meat balls – I tried just one of those meat balls for taste – ONO! Yikes, outside looks slightly wet so today I gotta contend with hot humid and occasionally drizzling conditions! Well, da streets was wet and nothing’s open at this time of morning so I figure I go check out some place else. Jumped on da train and went HE-LE on towards Aomori. After about 45 minutes, at Shin-Aomori, 2nd to the last stop, it looked wet too so I figure I go try out Hachinohe. Switch to one shinkansen, green car, and 15 minutes later I got off at Hachinohe. Hachinohe was raining. Awe, mo’ worser! I went to the tourist information office and chatted with one wahine over there and got the scoops on their festival. They have one in Hachinohe which is called the Hachinohe Sansha Taisei festival. Since today is raining, I figure I going try that festival tomorrow. I figure I’d try to get to Aomori and check out da scene there. I check the local train at Hochinohe-Aomori and it didn’t look promising so I got back on the shinkansen and went boogie on back to Shin-Aomori. It was about 11:15 and I ran into one huge crowd of touring gawkers. I figure I might as well go back home and snack on something and take one senior power nap.
Picked up a chicken salad and a Natto maki for abaout $3 at the Sunkus store. Got my daily NE-MA-KI, (pajamas to be worn in room only) and because somebody went MON-KU-MON-KU about da headless model on the last night wear, dis time you can see da NE-MA-KI not only headless but with all da other body parts missing! kekekeke
Yesterday, I saw the Hirosaki NEPUTA festival. Today is the Aomori NEBUTA which I think is the 500 pound gorilla of all festivals in Japan. The floats are gigantic, can weigh up to 4 tons and cost about $200,000 to make, and the festival draws millions according to the internet. So anyways, I went to Aomori. It must have been rainng earlier as the streets were wet. I started asking around where I can buy those little cymbols the dancers play with? Most people didn’t know where, including the tourist information office folks. I told one of th store agents, it must be cheap, it is just a toy right? She said no, it isn’t a toy and it’ll cost around $200-US. I knew that because I priced it a few years ago.
Never had time to shop just then. I went to dinner. Ate one Unagi-ju or unagi over rice. ONO. I went pau dinner about 7 p.m. and went to look at the parade. All the floats were still standing around on the parade route and finally around 7:10 they started thumping da taiko drums and started moving. Late! Walked around and found this restaurant called SEN Nari which Ken and I went to years ago. They sell draft beer at the sidewalk during parades and no one was there so I yelled into the restaurant, BI-RU KU-DA-SAI! So dis guy walks out and he and I recognize each other and both point and say “AAAAAAAAAAAH”. We didn’t remember names but “AAAAAAAAAAH” was good enough! His name is Masataka Narita and is the owner/cook of this restaurant called SEN-NA-RI. His English is really good – he has been to Hawaii. Apparently he serves a lot of Americans (Misawa AFB is close by) and the guys call him MAC. Da guys from the US call anyone MAC when they don’t know their names but I didn’t tell Masatake that. He said HOWZIT to KEN! (in the video he sayz “Ken-san mata irasshai!”). It never rained all during the parade but the floats were all covered with a protective plastic sheet. Too bad. ANA had a float and as they passed by, they were passing out hand held fans so I waved and da wahine walked over to da curb and gave me 2 fans. Then MAC’s friend who is part of one big float walks by and gives MAC a dozen fans. So I get one fan with a picture of his friend’s big float. Then he gives MAC 3 fancy matsuri hats. MAC gives one to me. I took a few pictures with it and then I told MAC there ain’t no way I can pack that, especially right now I’m travelling with only one backpack and PC bag. That hat must have been expensive because it was bulky, heavy and well made. Nothing flimsy. Anyways, I left that hat with MAC.
So I went catch the 9:40 p.m. train back to Hirosaki and after about 1 hour, just got home from the Aomori NEBUTA parade and guess what? I get one e-mail saying can I pick up a set of those cute cymbols the parade dancers are playing? Geeez! Guess I better get more serious about finding a place to buy one set for that e-mailer. FYI, the cymbols are called TE-BURI-GANE.

Kushida Shrine
