Kwun Tong Promenade Oct 2019 Hong Kong
Kwun Tong Promenade, adjacent to Kwun Tong Bypass, is built on the site of the former Kwun Tong Public Cargo Working Area under the Kai Tak Development. Following the opening of Kwun Tong Promenade (Stage 2) on 27 May 2015, the area of Kwun Tong Promenade has increased to 4.13 hectares.
About one kilometre in length, the waterfront boardwalk in the Promenade provides visitors with not only close-up views of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal and the Runway Park, which are the new landmarks of East Kowloon, but also splendid night-time views of Hong Kong Island East and the panoramas of Victoria Harbour and Lei Yue Mun.
Models of mechanical cranes and waste paper bundles inspired by the paper recycling industry are the artistic attractions of the Promenade to evoke memories of the site as a former cargo handling area.
A mist feature with special lighting and sound effects has been installed in the landscaped area. At night-time, the lighting along the waterfront tree walk and tower landmarks flashes and changes, interacting with the mists of water droplets emitted from the ground and the kaleidoscopic beams from the uplights along the waterfront boardwalk to create a surreal and delightful atmosphere.
HONG KONG WALKING TOUR (ULTRA HD 4K) - KWUN TONG | 觀塘
#walk #walking #4kwalking #hongkong #kwuntong
Welcome to our Hong Kong Walking Tour in Kwun Tong 觀塘. Our video is shot in Ultra HD 4K, crystal clear quality, as if you are actually here.
'Kwun Tong is an area in Kwun Tong District, situated at the eastern part of the Kowloon Peninsula, and its boundary stretches from Lion Rock in the north to Lei Yue Mun in the south, and from the winding paths of Kowloon Peak in the east to the north coast of the former Kai Tak Airport runway in the west.
One of the first New towns in Hong Kong, Kwun Tong was, and remains, a major industrial area. Its population has been growing rapidly, and the demand for housing, medical and educational facilities and services has been increasing. In view of this, a number of community development projects, such as the redevelopment of old housing estates and the construction of major parks, have been implemented in recent years. These projects have incorporated a wide range of supporting facilities, like primary and secondary schools, clinics, community centres and open spaces. All these facilities have brought about a new face to the Kwun Tong District, making it a more comfortable place for the people to live.
The Chinese name of Kwun Tong (觀塘) was formerly written as 官塘 (transcribed as Koon Tong in Cantonese Yale). Despite the identical pronunciation of these two names in Cantonese, the local dialect, they have different meanings. 官塘 literally means Mandarin Pond, which was allegedly named after the Koon Fu salt yards (官富鹽場) set up by the government to secure central administration of the salt trade and prevent unauthorised salt preparation and trading starting from Song Dynasty. In those days, there were many salt yards around Kwun Tong, whose long coastline stretched to as far as Kowloon Bay and To Kwa Wan in the west. Troops were stationed here to monitor the salt yards' operation. Despite the government's close watch, illegal salt trade was still active on Lantau Island. When it was discovered by the officials, a full-scale crackdown was initiated. The Lantau villagers instigated an all-out uprising of salt farmers, leading finally to a major civil riot.
According to other stories, Kwun Tong was a typhoon shelter for the Kowloon Water Police, which made it an important political and defence point of north-west Kowloon. Black Hill (Ng Kwai Shan), which today rises up behind Lam Tin Estate, was known as Koon Fu Hill (官富山) at that time.
In the 1950s, when Kwun Tong was being developed as a new town, the local residents disliked the word Koon (官), which literally means official or government, and they persuaded the Hong Kong government to change the place name to Kwun Tong (觀塘), which literally means viewing a pond. The development of Kwun Tong spearheaded the construction and planning of new towns in the New Territories, although the first project was limited in scope and did not share the features of self-contained communities like the later ones.[1]
Town centre
Yue Man Square (裕民坊) is the heart of the town. Most of the banks' branches are located on this road. The Government District Office is located at the eastern end of Yue Man Square. More than 20 franchised bus and public mini-bus routes pass through or stop at this road. Yue Man Square is presently being demolished and replaced by a shopping centre by the Urban Renewal Authority.
Mut Wah Street (物華街) is also called Golden Street because there were nearly 10 jewelry shops. It is most famous for the armed-robbery by Yip Kai-Fuen (葉繼歡) when he used an AK-47 assault rifle to rob 5 of the jewelry shops in 1992.[2]
Shui Wo Street (瑞和街) is a market street. It is also home to the Shui Wo Street Complex, which houses an indoor market, a public library, and a sports hall.
Hip Wo Street (協和街) has the one and only hospital in Kwun Tong, namely United Christian Hospital, at 130 Hip Wo Street.
Hong Ning Road (康寧道) is the Mid-levels of Kwun Tong. The headquarters of Hong Kong Police Force Sau Mau Ping Division is at 200 Hong Ning Road, near Sau Mau Ping. It is also home to Hong Ning Road Park, one of the largest parks in the area.
Tsui Ping Road (翠屏道) is located in Kwun Tong. Tsui Ping Estate. Kwun Tong Maryknoll College is located at 100 Tsui Ping Road.
Yuet Wah Street (月華街) is located in Kwun Tong. Wo Lok Estate is situated here.
Kwun Tong Road (觀塘道) is the main road that leads into and out of the Kwun Tong district. Kwun Tong MTR station is directly above this road. Kwun Tong's latest shopping mall, apm, is situated on this road next to Kwun Tong MTR station.
apm Millennium City 5 is one of the largest shopping centres in East Kowloon, with its slogan Play More Sleep Less.

My name is Dennis. In 2009, I opened this channel to record or document this city. I know something is being changed in next decade(s), or I felt the change have began since 2003, no later in 2046. I want to, at least, save some kind of city life in video form instead of taken photo or written in words. I strongly believe that motion picture and sound recording are much better way to preserve and present in the future when young generation want to get know of Hong Kong.
In May of 2018, I wrote the following statement in below:
.....................................................................................
Hi everyone, thank you for supporting me in fulfilling my childhood dream of making videos.
My parents had always taken a tolerant attitude toward my “capricious”: whether my work is feasible and sustainable... and they never complained about it.
As my father just passed away in May, I am left with no choice but to give up my video making venture.
In Hong Kong where the cost of living is sky high, youtube video making is simply not sustainable by google adsense alone. The revenue produced is way too insufficient for affording a domestic helper, and I must look after my mom all by myself - this is why I must stay very close to her at all times.
Unless my revenue is closed to market rate, or my income can cover a domestic helper, otherwise I can hardly justify any video-related works.
Therefore, from now on everything video will be postponed in terms of year(s).
Thank you, and hope to see you all again in the future.
..............................................................
Because I am the only son of my mother in Hong Kong, and I have to take care of her at home. I almost give up this channel because of high consumption of time and living cost. But I found some extra time.
I live in Fanling, north part of New Territories, so it will include my showtime of traveling back and forth. Because of home care to my old mother, there will be no time other than 9:00 to 16:00 because my mother is staying at the senior daycare center, so before and after that, I will NOT able to do filming.
I understand most of you are looking for high quality of video, e.g. 4K or 8K. But hardware is so important at this post-production, that is, the higher quality video, the higher powerful computer to render video. In recently, I solved matter by paid for PowerDirector apps to make 4K on my Pocophone F1, 1 hour of 4K video = 2 hour to make, besides, the convert 4K file time is around 24 hours......
I will continue to run this channel as long as the time is fit-on-me or I don't see any kind of video job could fit me.
I hope this is clear to everyone.

A creative afternoon in Kwun Tong with restaurateur Esther Sham
[In partnership with Grand Central] If you’ve had the pleasure of dining at Ta Pantry, a private kitchen on Star Street, then you may be familiar with the creative force that is Esther ‘Tata’ Sham.
Born in Hong Kong, the model-turned-chef worked at Michelin-starred restaurants – including Amber and L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon – before opening Ta Pantry Dining and Catering in 2008, followed by French restaurant Maison ES in 2015.
When Sham heard about the ongoing transformation of Kowloon East into Hong Kong’s next “Smart City”, the enterprising chef was keen to get out and explore the neighborhood.
On a creative adventure through Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay, Sham visits new restaurants, checks out a hidden art gallery, relaxes at hip cafes, and enjoys the recently redeveloped waterfront promenade.
“If I had to choose three words to describe Kwun Tong? ‘New generation, new development, and ideas,” says Sham. “There are so many hidden gems and eateries to explore.”

ULTRA HD 4K HONG KONG AVENUE OF STARS | 星光大道 | 2019 NEW WORLD CENTRE | TSIM SHA TSUI 尖沙咀
#avenueofstars #星光大道 #newworldcentre #tsimshatsui
Welcome to our Hong Kong Walking Tour in the Avenue of Stars
星光大道, in Tsim Sha Tsui. We also shot the 2019 Brand New World Centre. You will also see the Peninsula on the way, the Space Museum, Cultural Centre and much more. Our video is shot in Ultra HD 4K, crystal clear quality, as if you are actually here.
'The Avenue of Stars (Chinese: 星光大道), modelled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is located along the Victoria Harbour waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. It honours celebrities of the Hong Kong film industry.[1] In late January 2019, the avenue has been reopen to the public after 3 years of renovation.
The Avenue of Stars is the eastern node of several tourist attractions along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront. In addition to the promenade and New World Centre, a number of attractions exist including the Museum of Art, Space Museum, Cultural Centre and the Clock Tower.
Entering from Salisbury Garden, a 4.5-metre-tall replica of the statuette given to winners at the Hong Kong Film Awards greets visitors. Along the 440-metre promenade, the story of Hong Kong's one hundred years of cinematic history is told through inscriptions printed on nine red pillars. Set into the promenade are plaques honouring the celebrities. Some plaques contain hand prints and autographs of the stars set in cement, but most of the plaques only contain celebrities' names as they are now deceased. A 2.5-metre bronze statue of Bruce Lee was erected along the Avenue of Stars in 2005.
The promenade commands a stunning panoramic view across Victoria Harbour. At night it is a popular viewing place for the Symphony of Lights display.
'New World Centre remodeling project
The New World Centre (Chinese: 新世界中心) was retail-hotel-residential-office complex on Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It housed two hotels, two office towers, a shopping complex and serviced apartments. It was reported to be one of the largest commercial complexes in the world at the time.[1] It used to house a Tokyu Department Store. It was located near the Sogo department store and the Hong Kong Space Museum, opposite the MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station. It was closed on March 31, 2010 for demolition and a new 63-storey hotel by New World Group is being built on the site with expected opening in 2019.[2]'
'Tsim Sha Tsui (Chinese: 尖沙咀), often abbreviated as TST, is an urban area in southern Kowloon, Hong Kong. The area is administratively part of the Yau Tsim Mong District. Tsim Sha Tsui East is a piece of land reclaimed from the Hung Hom Bay now east of Tsim Sha Tsui.

Tourist attractions
The Former Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower in Tsim Sha Tsui is a famous landmark of Hong Kong.
Tsim Sha Tsui was once the terminus of the Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR). After the British Section of the railway was opened for traffic on 1 October 1910, the construction of the railway station in Tsim Sha Tsui started in 1913. Construction on the railway station and its clock tower were completed in 1915. The main building of the Tsim Sha Tsui station was demolished in 1978. The station was relocated to Hung Hom to make way for the Hong Kong Space Museum and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. But the Clock Tower of the station was not demolished and was kept in place. It is all that remains standing of the station. The clock tower is forty-four metres high, surmounted by a seven-metre-high (23 ft) lightning rod. It is now surrounded by the public piazza of the Cultural Centre and has become a landmark of Hong Kong. Six pillars of the railway were relocated to the Urban Council Centenary Garden in TST East. The Avenue of Stars starts at the New World Centre shopping centre near the Cultural Centre.
The Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront is another popular destination for locals and tourists alike. It is especially popular for photographers, as it offers an unobstructed view of the Central area of Hong Kong across Victoria Harbour. The Star Ferry terminal is another popular attraction for tourists, and the Avenue of Stars is also popular with photographers.'
