La Fortuna,Costa Rica
La Fortuna is a rural city located in San Carlos, in the province of Alajuela, Costa Rica.
La Fortuna has the airport which is nearest to the Arenal Volcano, though many visitors also arrive via automobile, to the resorts and hotels in La Fortuna, Castillo, Palma, Monteverde, or Tilaran. Arenal is often cited by scientists as being in the top ten or top 20 of the world's most active volcanoes.La Fortuna is less than 10 km from the peak of Arenal and less than 20 km from the entrance to Arenal Volcano National Park (the entrance is west of the peak, whereas La Fortuna is east of the peak).
Other than the volcano, La Fortuna has tourist attractions such as the La Catarata de la Fortuna, a waterfall that falls from a height of 70 meters, several resorts with natural hot springs temperate enough to bathe in, other day spa services, and day-trips which involve horseback riding, whitewater rafting, hanging bridges, a sky tram, zip-lines, mountain bike, kayak, stand-up paddleboard, and ATV or dirt bike rentals, butterfly farm and Venado Cavern tours, bungee jumping, Laguna Cedeno, El Salto Swimming Hole, and canyoneering.
La Fortuna has a medic station but serious injuries require a medivac (or long travel on roadways), a police station (and another is on the way to El Tapon), gas station, 3 banks, 3 groceries, restaurants (in addition to those in the resorts), post office, and hardware store.
Arenal Volcano Costa Rica
Positioned within Costa Rica's fertile northern lowlands, the Arenal Volcano is an unavoidable presence while traveling within this part of the country. It is tall and imposing and has a reputation that precedes itself. Arenal's perfectly symmetrical shape makes it a sightseer's dream, while its abundance of outdoor activities makes it an easy place to check things off your must-do in Costa Rica list.
Until 2010, it was Costa Rica's most active volcano. Much to the enjoyment of its visitors, Arenal spewed enormous amounts of lava, gas and ash on a regular basis. That eruptive cycle -- which began with the infamous eruption of 1968 -- ended recently. In October 2010, Arenal entered into an indeterminate resting phase. For the time being, visitors will be unable to watch the much-loved explosions, although that could change within a matter of months or years. Travelers to Arenal will still enjoy its bountiful sights, sounds and activities— there are mountains to be hiked, lakes to be fished and rivers to be floated. As one of the country's most scenic and accessible areas, it is a requisite stop on any tour of Costa Rica.
As Arenal's ultimate travel resource, this site is dedicated to providing you with information about the Arenal Volcano and the surrounding area. It's our hope that with the tools and services we offer, you'll be able to plan a fun and memorable adventure to Costa Rica.

Lake Arenal
In many ways, Lake Arenal is just as monumental as the volcano that rises above its eastern shoreline. With a surface of over 33 sq mi (85 sq km) and a depth of some 200 ft (60 m), it is Costa Rica's largest landlocked body of water. As such, it provides ample opportunities for activities such as windsurfing, fishing, boating and more.

Arenal Natura Ecological Park Arenal Volcano
Arenal Natura is a beautiful ecological park that was established in 2004 due to the inspiration of one Costa Rican family. Mr. Ronald Ferreto, his wife Patricia, and their children, Steven and Cheryl, have always been enthusiastic about nature and truly aware of the unique aspects of their home country's flora and fauna. The history that precedes the decision to create the ecological park was a passionate love for nature and a desire to preserve the country's unique natural heritage. Mr. Ferreto invested all of the family's assets to make their dreams come true. They acquired land in a beautiful area near the Arenal volcano. The place had been devoted for many years to cattle raising and agriculture. Ferreto's family put in a lot of effort to revive the area by reforesting and restoring the land. Their hard work and enthusiasm have led to the transformation of the land into a wonderful tropical paradise where visitors can find a large number of ecosystems and countless species that have adopted this place as their home.
Mr. Ferreto, a nature lover, and his family desired to start this exciting project to help preserve the biodiversity of Costa Rica. They have decided to leave a legacy through the education of the population, especially through work with the younger generations which will become the most influential in reversing the ecological damage that the planet is suffering from, and positively overcoming the many challenges of this century. The park actively supports the conservation of threatened species and their natural ecosystems. It also serves as a means to support the growth of scientific knowledge that can benefit conservation, which in turn will help to promote public policy awareness and the need for conservation, to sustain natural resources, and to establish a new equilibrium between humans and nature.
In this natural habitat visitors can admire species from the smallest leaf-cutter ants, to red eye frogs showing off their beautiful colors, snakes hiding in the woods, to huge crocodiles showing their fearsome teeth to communicate through a universal language that asks everyone to respect each living things own territory.
Here is where many local and foreign visitors can both respect and enjoy nature for the first time. The Ferreto Madrigal family invites you to discover a wonderful natural experience in Arenal Natura Ecological Park.
Arenal Volcano National Park Costa Rica
We got up and began to pack our backpacks for our adventure to The Arenal Volcano National Park. The national park was just 20 minutes outside of La Fortuna. We paid the $15 per person entry fee and ended up being the second car in the parking lot. Our map and the guide at the park entrance told us that we couldn't get lost as long as we stayed on the path. We were really hoping to see some monkeys and sloths as I heard they are very popular throughout CR. While we didn't hire a guide because of extra costs, the area was still pretty to look at and adventure on our own. We saw the volcano, the lava rocks, great ceiba tree, plant life and some wildlife. We spent about 3 hours here.

Arenal Volcano eruption Costa Rica 2010 - הר הגעש ארנל קוסטה ריקה 火山コスタリカ
Arenal volcano in costa rica is one of the most visited volcanoes in costa rica, located not far from la fortuna arenal , remember this volcano is at the moment in a sleeping mode, do no expect any lava flow eruptions but yet there is a lot do it in the area of the volcano. ( late update september 2013 , some say it is waking up again... we cant confirmed that )
By visiting Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal or taking a bath in one of the hot springs in arenal ( Baldi, tabacon or the luxury hot springs and spa ). there are also plenty of things to do in arenal, you can visit the arenal hanging bridges which is a great way to see the rain forest from the ground to the canopy, dont miss a chance to take a zipline or canopy tour in the rain forest.
Relaxing activities can be done as well in the lago lake arenal, fishing or just taking a boat cano along the lake and even windsurfing at the lake
there are plenty of places to sleep in the area of vulkan Arenal, some with a volcano view such as arenal observatory lodge or campo verde.

Arenal Volcano, in Spanish Volcán Arenal, is an active andesitic stratovolcano in north-western Costa Rica around 90 km northwest of San José, in the province of Alajuela, canton of San Carlos, and district of La Fortuna. The Arenal volcano measures at least 1,633m (5,358 ft). It is conically shaped with a crater spanning 140m (460 ft). Geologically, Arenal is considered a young volcano and the age is estimated to be less than 7,500 years. The volcano was dormant for hundreds of years and exhibited a single crater at its summit, with minor fumaroles activity, covered by dense vegetation. In 1968 it erupted unexpectedly, destroying the small town of Tabacón. Due to the eruption three more craters were created on the western flanks but only one of them still exists today. Since 2010, Arenal's volcanic activity appears to be decreasing and explosions have become rare, with no explosions reported between 2010 and 2012. Rainforest Ecotourism
