Diving / Snorkeling La Jolla Caves (with Sea Lions) San Diego California
Amazing Diving / Snorkeling La Jolla Caves with wild Sea Lions, San Diego California. Freediving the area.
La Jolla is a hilly, seaside community within the city of San Diego, California, occupying 7 miles (11 km) of curving coastline along the Pacific Ocean within the northern city limits. The population reported in the 2010 census was 46,781.
La Jolla is surrounded on three sides by ocean bluffs and beaches and is located 12 miles north of Downtown San Diego and 40 miles south of Orange County.
La Jolla Cove is a small, picturesque cove and beach that is surrounded by cliffs in La Jolla, San Diego, California. The Cove is protected as part of a marine reserve; underwater it is very rich in marine life, and is popular with snorkelers, swimmers and scuba divers.
The swells that often roll in from the open ocean here can be rather large and strong, and so being in the water at the Cove is not always suitable for people who do not have good water skills. The water temperature is also often a little colder than the average San Diego beach, and the beach has the disadvantage that the dry sand area is very small at high tide. In contrast, during very low tides, a lot of interesting tide pools are revealed at the Cove.
The California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) is a coastal eared seal native to western North America. It is one of six species of sea lion. Its natural habitat ranges from southeast Alaska to central Mexico, including the Gulf of California. Sea lions are sexually dimorphic; males are larger than females, and have a thicker neck, and protruding sagittal crest. They mainly haul-out on sandy or rocky beaches, but they also frequent manmade environments such as marinas and wharves. Sea lions feed on a number of species of fish and squid, and are preyed on by orcas and white sharks.
California sea lions have a polygynous breeding pattern. From May to August, males establish territories and try to attract females with which to mate. Females are free to move in between territories, and are not coerced by males. Mothers nurse their pups in between foraging trips. Sea lions communicate with numerous vocalizations, notably with barks and mother-pup contact calls. Outside their breeding season, sea lions spend much of their time at sea, but they come to shore to molt.
Sea lions are particularly intelligent, can be trained to perform various tasks and display limited fear of humans if accustomed to them. Because of this, California sea lions are a popular choice for public display in zoos, circuses and oceanariums, and are trained by the United States Navy for certain military operations. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the species as Least Concern due to its abundance. To protect fish, the US states of Oregon and Washington engage in annual kill quotas of sea lions

La Jolla Cove Tour
Join me for a San Diego Tour to La Jolla. One of the walking tour stops included on this #1 rated San Diego Bus Tour based on TripAdvisor Reviews will take us past La Jolla Cove.
We will spend an hour of this afternoon sightseeing tour of San Diego to enjoy the spectacular views along the coast.
La Jolla Cove borders the La Jolla Ecological Reserve, where there is so much sea life that it lures seals, sea lions, pelicans, and cormorants into close contact with humans.
We get to spend our time watching them up-close play on the coastal rocks and swim around the snorkelers, divers, and ocean swimmers.
On this San Diego Sightseeing Tour to La Jolla, I'll provide you the background on why we are so lucky to not only enjoy the scenic views but all the marine life. I'll also share insight on pioneering women who shaped La Jolla into the wonderful coastal community it has become today.

Places to see in ( San Diego - USA ) La Jolla Caves
Places to see in ( San Diego - USA ) La Jolla Caves
The La Jolla Caves are some unique cave formations in the La Jolla area of San Diego and close to the beach. The cool waters of the area are known to be ideal for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving or just kayaking around to get a glimpse of the caves and the natural formations.
There is also a vast underwater life there as is the Garibaldi, the California state fish, seals, sea lions and the local sea life. There are protected sea cliffs that rise by the area and offer some fantastic views. Snorkeling and water play is especially popular with the sea sports enthusiast while the breathtaking views of the caves can inspire the nature and adventure lover.
The La Jolla underwater park is a jewel in the crown as the name of the place literally means ‘the jewel’ in Spanish. The area is full of San Diego restaurants and shopping life while there is also a children’s pool nearby for the children to relax in the waters.
It is safe to explore the caves in calm waters and fishing is also prohibited in the area. There are no public restrooms available but that should not deter anyone from visiting and experiencing these caves first hand.
