GV - Tour Hotel La Ponche*****, St. Tropez, France.
Once a modest fishermen’s bar, favored by Boris Vian and Simone de Beauvoir during the early fifties when the hotel only had three or four rooms, this large family home expanded and was embellished over the years to become a meeting place for writers such as Jacques Laurent and Michel Mohrt, painters like Picasso and Bernard Buffet, actresses including Juliette Greco, Jeanne Moreau and Bridgette Bardot.
Today it is a fabulous 5 star hotel, right on the ramparts of the old village of Saint Tropez, looking down on a pocket beach with views out over the bay of St. Tropez and onto the little village square as you eat in the marvelous La Ponche restaurant for those who enjoy people watching between courses.

Saint-Tropez is a coastal town on the French Riviera, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France. Long popular with artists, the town attracted the international jet set in the 1960s, and remains known for its beaches and nightlife. The cobblestoned La Ponche quarter recalls its past as a fishing village, although yachts now outnumber fishing boats in the Vieux Port (Old Port).
Saint Tropez is a town, 100 kilometres (62 miles) west of Nice, in the Var department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France. Saint Tropez is also the principal town in the canton of Saint-Tropez. Saint-Tropez is located on the French Riviera. It was a military stronghold and an unassuming fishing village until the beginning of the 20th century. Saint Tropez was the first town on this coast to be liberated during World War II (as part of Operation Dragoon). After the war, Saint Tropez became an internationally known seaside resort, renowned principally because of the influx of artists of the French New Wave in cinema and the Yé-yé movement in music. Saint Tropez later became a resort for the European and American jet set and a goal for tourists in search of a little Provençal authenticity and an occasional celebrity sighting.
Tropezian beaches are located along the coast in the Baie de Pampelonne, which lies south of Saint-Tropez and east of Ramatuelle. Pampelonne offers a collection of beaches along its five-kilometre shore. Each beach is around thirty metres wide with its own beach hut and private or public tanning area. Les Bravades de Saint-Tropez are an annual celebration held in the middle of May where people of the town celebrate their patron saint Torpes of Pisa and their military achievements. Each year, at the end of September, a regatta is held in the bay of Saint-Tropez (Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez). This is a draw for many yachts.

The cobblestoned La Ponche quarter recalls its past as a fishing village, although yachts now outnumber fishing boats in the Vieux Port (Old Port).
Pouting sexpot Brigitte Bardot came to St-Tropez in the '50s to star in Et Dieu Créa la Femme (And God Created Woman; 1956) and overnight transformed the peaceful fishing village into a sizzling jet-set favourite. Tropeziens have thrived on their sexy image ever since: at the Vieux Port, yachts like spaceships jostle for millionaire moorings, and infinitely more tourists jostle to admire them.
Yet there is a serene side to this village trampled by 60,000 summertime inhabitants and visitors on any given day. In the low season, the St-Tropez of mesmerising quaint beauty and ‘sardine scales glistening like pearls on the cobblestones’ that charmed Guy de Maupassant (1850–93) comes to life. Meander cobbled lanes in the old fishing quarter of La Ponche, sip pastis at a place des Lices cafe, watch old men play pétanque beneath plane trees, or walk in solitary splendour from beach to beach along the coastal path.

Welcome introduction video to Hotel La Ponche***** by owner and manager Mme. Duckstein, St. Tropez “Old Village”, France. She was born in the room above the bar, her parents developed it from a simple bar that was discovered in the 1940's by the St. Germain de Pres set from Paris that included the likes of Colette Clémont. Once a modest fishermen’s bar, favoured by Boris Vian and Simone de Beauvoir during the early fifties when the hotel only had three or four rooms, this large family home expanded and was embellished over the years to become a meeting place for writers such as Jacques Laurent and Michel Mohrt, painters like Picasso and Bernard Buffet, actresses including Juliette Greco and Jeanne Moreau.
