Places to see in ( Nancy - France ) La Porte de la Craffe
The door Craffe is a door of Nancy , imposing remains of fortifications medieval , built in the xiv th century north of the old city. It is classified historic building since July 1886. Located in the Ville Vieille - Léopold district , the gate marks the northern limit of the Grande-Rue that connects it to the rue de la Citadelle .
The imposing building, consisting of a central square tower where the door itself is inserted, flanked by two round towers higher, bound the Great Street to the north. The hewn stone walls adorned with red bricks in the lower parts are three meters thick.
The central door, in the form of arch in tierce point , is topped by a niche where was placed a statue in the round of a Madonna and Child of the xiv th century . Two windows frame this niche and, on either side, two bas-reliefs of the helmeted profiles of the dukes of Lorraine Raoul (in the west) and Jean (in the east) look at each other.
A Lorraine thorn adorns the top of the niche, itself surmounted by a cross of Lorraine and a belt of machicolations in braces and consolesformed of a triple torus, a resolutely Gothic style. On either side of the cross of Lorraine, two helmeted heads in bas-relief face each other. According to the inscriptions, these are the effigies of Charles II , winner of Louis of Orleans in July 1407 at the Battle of Champigneulles and Rene II , winner of Charles the Bold in January 1477 at the Battle of Nancy .
The whole is framed by two huge round towers with conical roofs, pierced with windows allowing shots on all sides and the highest are topped with crows to support missing wooden shutters. Next to the west tower, an external staircase gives access to the terrace above the vaulted passage, which allows to discover a red brick square watch tower located at the back of the east tower, invisible from the street, as well as the internal facade of the Renaissance building surmounting the door to the north, on the street side of the citadel.

Places to see in ( Nancy - France )
Nancy, a riverfront city in the northeastern French region of Grand Est, is known for its late baroque and art nouveau landmarks, some dating to its days as the former capital of the Duchy of Lorraine. Its focal point is the 18th-century Place Stanislas. This grand square, decorated with gilded wrought-iron gates and rococo fountains, rests by the ornate palaces and churches filling the city’s medieval old town.
Nancy is a moderate-sized city in the Lorraine region of (eastern) France. Nancy is the capital of the French département of Meurthe-et-Moselle, and one of the major economical cities of the Lorraine region. It is also a major French university center, with over 47,000 students and three major universities. Once the industrial and cultural powerhouse of Northeast France, the city boasts a very diverse architectural and cultural heritage. Parts of the historical city centre are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Delightful Nancy has an air of refinement found nowhere else in Lorraine. With a resplendent central square, fine museums, formal gardens and shop windows sparkling with Daum and Baccarat crystal, the former capital of the dukes of Lorraine catapults you back to the riches of the 18th century, when much of the city centre was built. Nancy has long thrived on a combination of innovation and sophistication. The art-nouveau movement flourished here (as the Nancy School) thanks to the rebellious spirit of local artists, who set out to prove that everyday objects could be drop-dead gorgeous.
Place Stanislas, the town square has a Stanislas statue pointing to the north and fountains and wrought iron gates in the two northern corners. The Old City, including the St-Epvre basilique and square with many cafés and restaurants (Place St-Epvre). La Porte de la Craffe, Grand Rue. 14th century gate at the edge of the Vieille Ville, with two towers giving it the look of a fairy-tale castle.
Place de la Carriere and Place d'Alliance together with Place Stanislas are a single entry on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Place de la Carriere is a tree-lined square with notable buildings around it. Place d'Alliance has a central fountain, modelled after those in Piazza Navona in Rome. Arc de Triomphe, also known as the Arc Here after its architect, is located along the northern side of the Place Stanislas, leading to the Place de la Carriere. It was built at the same time as the Place Stanislas, in honor of King Louis XV.
Musée des Beaux-Arts (Museum of Fine Arts) at place Stanislas, Musée de l'Ecole de Nancy, 36-38, rue du Sergent Blandan , Art-nouveau Nancy school of architecture. Musée Historique Lorrain (Museum of Lorraine History) reduced hours inthe winter. History of the Lorraine region. (You might also want to check out the neighboring Musée des Arts et Traditions populaires.)
Parc de la Pépinière - A 50 acre square park in the heart of the city. It was once used as a garden to grow trees for other parks/green areas in Nancy and the region. Parc Sainte-Marie, (Access : 38bis avenue du Maréchal Juin, rue Dupont des Loges, avenue Boffrand. Take bus 134-135 and stop at Dupont des Loges). A nice park, southwest of the city centre. Jardin Botanique du Montet, 100, rue du Jardin Botanique 54600 VILLERS-LÈS-NANCY (Take bus 134-135 direction ''Lycée Stanislas until the end of the bus line'')
Parc de la Cure d'Air - A small park, located on a hill northwest of the city centre. The park itself is not very interesting, however there is a great view over the whole city. Les jardins d'eau - A pleasant promenade along the canal. Near the marina.

Plazas of Nancy - UNESCO World Heritage Site
The UNESCO World Heritage site city of Plazas of Nancy in eastern France is home to three beautiful 18th century town squares: Place Stanislas, Place de la Carriere, and Place d'Alliance. These were all developed in the 18th century by the new Duke of Lorraine: Stanislas Leszczyński, the exiled former King of Poland and father-in-law to King Louis XV of France. It's a fascinating little bit of history, and the plazas and their associated gates are all very beautiful. Let's have a closer look!
