La Seu D'Urgell in the Fall of 2010 was my favorite town of the whole Spain trip. We had a great accommodation, fantastic food under the vaults of remodeled romanesque castle and sightseeing of the town. We saw the church and monastery with art objects 500 - 1000 years old. A Basque singer entertained us with songs, dancing with tambourine and played on variety of kitchen instruments including garden hoe.
La Seu D'Urgell je místo, které se mi z celé cesty po Španělsku nejvíce líbilo. Měli jsme báječné ubytování, nezapomenutelná jídla pod klenbou obnoveného románského zámku a prohlídku města. Byli jsme v kostele a přilehlém klášteře s uměleckými předměty, které byly 500-1000 let staré. Podledná baskická temperamentní zpěvačka nám zpívala, zvonila při tanci tamburinou a hrála na kuchyňské nástroje a i zahradní motyku.

La Seu D’Urgell. The heart of the Pyrenees
La Seu D’Urgell – a city located in the Catalan Pyrenees in Spain. The city is the capital of the Alt Urgell region, the center of the diocese of Urgel and the seat of the bishop of Urgell, one of Andorra’s co-princes. The population of the city, according to 2017, was 12,458 people.
The city is located at the confluence of two rivers: Segre and Valira.
The main tourist attractions and architecture.
1. Cathedral of Santa Maria (Catedral de Santa Maria). The Cathedral of Santa Maria, built in the XII century, is the most famous building of the city and the region. This is the only cathedral in this style, preserved in Catalonia. The Cathedral of Santa Maria is built in the Romanesque style and dates back to the XII century, is the fourth and last of a series of cathedrals that were built in la Seu D’Urgell between the V and XII centuries.
2. The Monastery and the Church of San Miguel. The monastery adjoins the southern facade of the Cathedral of Santa Maria. The church of San Miguel is in Romanesque style and was built in the eleventh century.
Among other significant architectural buildings of the city: the Hall of St. Dominic, the library of Sant Agusti, the Town Hall, the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the Seminary, Parque del Valira (Spain) and the Diocesan Museum.
The best time to visit the city is Saturday: here on this day the city market is working, where farmers and gardeners come from all nearby cities and districts. Here you can buy any products: meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, sausages, pickles, as well as clothes, shoes, goods for children. There is also a flea market where you can buy curious vintage items.
La Seu D’Urgell is also famous for its water sports park (Olympic rafting park Segre). The park was built for the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992.

Seo de Urgel (en catalán y oficialmente La Seu d'Urgell; antiguamente Urgell o Ciutat d'Urgell)89 es un municipio español en la provincia de Lérida, situada en los Pirineos catalanes, capital de la comarca del Alto Urgel (Cataluña), cabeza del partido judicial, sede del Obispado de Urgel y fue sede del antiguo Condado de Urgel, antes de su expansión al sur. Se encuentra dentro del ámbito territorial funcional (ATF) del Alto Pirineo y Arán (Alt Pirineu i Aran). Es la ciudad más poblada de la comarca y del ATF, concentrando el 17'4% de población de este último.
Está situada en el interfluvio del río Segre y el río Valira, poco antes de su confluencia en una pequeña terraza fluvial, continuación del pla de les forques. La ciudad forma parte del Urgellet, comarca natural pirenaica, formada por municipios del Alto Urgel y que juntamente con Andorra, correspondía al territorio del Condado de Urgel con capital en la Seo de Urgel, hasta la expansión al Sur.
El Alto Urgel es la puerta natural al estado de Andorra. Buena parte de la pujanza de esta ciudad, dentro del ámbito del Alto Pirineo y Arán, se debe a la importancia demográfica y económica de Andorra.
Los patrones de esta ciudad son: San Odón de Urgel, San Sebastián y la Madre de Dios de Urgel, mientras que la Virgen de Nuria y San Ermengol, son los principales patrones de la Diócesis de Urgel,pero en el caso de San Ermengol, tiene una presencia más destacada en la ciudad, que el resto de patrones. Probablemente ese sea el motivo de que existan varios eventos a lo largo del año, dedicados a San Ermengol como la Feria de San Ermengol, una de las más antiguas de Cataluña, y el Retablo de San Ermengol.

No hay mejor regalo para este gran día de San José que pasar la jornada conociendo y paseando por esta extraordinaria ciudad situada entre el río Segre y el río Valira,poco antes de su confluencia.
Está presidida elegantemente por la catedral de Santa María de Urgel, la única catedral íntegramente románica de Cataluña, cuyo templo actual data del siglo XII. A continuación y al lado de su espectacular claustro, se encuentra el Museo Diocesano de Urgel , fundado en 1956 donde se exponen gran cantidad de piezas de arte sacro, románico, etc …
Es digno de visitar el Parque Olímpico del Segre, que con sus torrentes y saltos de aguas cristalinas da soporte a este maravilloso deporte que es el piragüismo. Alrededor de todo su recinto deportivo, se puede pasear y contemplar la belleza de la naturaleza por un camino hecho con gran acierto.
Otro sitio que hay que olvidar es el hermoso Parque del Valira , cuya decoración no es otra que la que la naturaleza con el extraordinario encanto que le proporciona. Toma el nombre del río Valira, de la cuenca del Mediterráneo, después de pasear en su recorrido por casi toda Andorra, para confluir con el río Segre en la Seu d'Urgell, trayendo sus aguas ese color cristalino de origen pirenaico. Un lugar que merece la pena visitar para no perder el contacto con el esplendor de la naturaleza. Junto a este parque se encuentra un claustro moderno que también tiene su encanto, invitando a la meditación en todo su recorrido…
Muy relajantes y enriquecedores los paseos en este día de San José por esta gran ciudad llena de historia.
