HOW TO GET THERE: You can take a bus from Cubao Bus Terminals headed to Abra or Ilocos (North) and get off at San Juan. Book online tickets here: or here:
(I personally recommend the Biyaheroes website and then book the Partas express bus for a shorter travel time because of very minimal stops Ex. Leave at 1am get there at around 7am)
You can also bring your own car. You'll just need to gas up and spend around Php 1,500.00 for toll (both ways). Just take NLEX, SCITEX, & TPLEX and then go through some of the barangays before getting to San Juan.
WHERE TO STAY: I've tried staying at Circle Hostel, La Union and San Juan Surf. Both are good. Circle Hostel is really really cheap (hammocks are cheaper than the beds), has free breakfast (pandesal, banana, and peanut butter), a cozy common area, and most importantly BIDETS. San Juan Surf also has free breakfast (Breakfast meals i.e. rice + ulam + egg + drink) and although a bit more pricey, gets you a private room which may or may not have a bidet.And they have parking spaces.
WHAT TO DO: Surf, swim, get a tan, play frisbee, get green mangoes and pay for extra bagoong, visit El Union & The Great North (Coffee, Horchata + Food trip), and stargaze (but pay attention to the water and put your phone in a zip lock.)

San Juan La Union Surfing Lessons
San Juan is considered to be the Surfing Capital of the Northern Philippines, and is known for its consistent intermediate quality surf and two surfing seasons from July to October and November to March.
Come and join me enjoy the waves and the beach as I explore the town for a couple of days.

La Union is well known as the Surfing Capital of Northern Luzon. It is one of the most accessible surfing spot, just 5-7 hours ride from Manila. Aside from surfing, there are also must visit resort and restaurants that have late-night activities and waterfalls that are worth seeing.

WHAT WE DID :
????Surf in San Juan. Much of the renewed interest in La Union can be traced back to San Juan’s flourishing surfing culture. P500.00 for Surfing Lesson in Flortsam and Jetsam Artist beach hostel
????Visit Ma-cho Temple in San Fernando. Perched atop a hill 70 feet above sea level, this Taoist temple overlooks the city of San Fernando. Dedicated to Ma-cho, the goddess of the sea, it was built by the the city’s Chinese community but is open to people of all faiths
????Visit Poro Point Light House. Poro Point, also known as Punta San Fernando, is a headland projecting northwesterly into the South China Sea. The lighthouse, standing 27-feet high, was built in 1905 during the American occupation and served as a navigational aid back then. Since it is located inside a military airfield, it is rarely inaccessible.
????Visit Baluarte Watch Tower. The 400-year-old watchtower in Barangay Victoria, Luna
????Visit Kamay na bato. Kamay na Bato (Stone Hand) Art Gallery is located in Brgy. Nalvo Norte, just a few minutes drive from Baluarte Watch Tower in Brgy. Victoria. Unlike Baluarte which can be experienced free of charge, this art gallery has an entrance fee / environmental fee of Php20/head. A Korean sculptor and painter, Mr. Bong Kim, married to a Filipina and is evidently fascinated by Filipino culture through his art, is the man behind the art gallery. You will find here faces and people carved or painted in stone. There are 3D art pieces, too.
????Trek to Tangadan Falls in San Gabriel. Accessible after a 45- to 60-minute trek, this waterfall is one of the better cascades in La Union and is near San Juan.
