(Thank you note from the video) The historic center of New Orleans is called the French Quarter or Vieux Carré although in reality, its architecture is of Spanish influence. Visitors can admire the wrought iron balconies, small private courtyards with fountains, gardens and patios, while enjoying the quiet atmosphere of the Old South. Walk the Moon Walk along the Mississippi. The walker starts dreaming of plantation days while watching authentic paddle boats on tunes jazz.La night, Bourbon Street comes alive with incredible excitement every night of the week and late into the night. Night owls are won by the festive atmosphere and music of the many bars, jazz clubs and restaurants.

He Built a Tiny House in New Orleans after Katrina
After Hurricane Katrine, Derek was forced to relocate into a FEMA trailer, like so many others in New Orleans. After living in the cheap RV, he knew his next tiny abode would be made from high quality materials and customized to fit his lifestyle. That’s why Derek chose to build and modify Tumbleweed Tiny House plans, just like we did!
He originally built his tiny house as a week day living space, so that he wouldn’t have to commute into the city from his suburban home. After living in it for awhile, Derek saved enough money and was able to purchase a large home in town for his growing family. His tiny home is now parked in the backyard and used as a guest house.
After building the “NOLA Tiny House” with his father, Derek says it holds a special place in his heart. He doesn’t think he’ll ever get rid of it, but perhaps it will evolve overtime as his family expands.

Road Trip: Daddy's Birthday - Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Gulfport ROAD TRIP
We are still taking our sweet timedriving back home to Columbus, Oh from San Antonio, Texas. It just so happens to be Riley's dad's birthday. A day of sightseeing and tours of New Orleans sounded like loads of fun. We woke up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and saw a bit of the city. Phones truly come in handy because we would have never known about Louisiana State University's Mike The Tiger.
As we were leaving town, we searched for local attractions. That's when we learned that LSU actually has a tiger on campus. If you know anything about
our family, you know this was a BIG DEAL! It's amazing that this beautiful magestic creature in his glorious enclosure live's in the middle of this campus. Ok, I won't lie! I actually considered sending Riley there!!!! LOL She's only 3 now so I'll get over it... HAHAHA It's really amazing, I would never study anywhere else.
Ok, I won't talk about the tiger forever, even though I could go on and on about how awesome I think the University is for having him there! But, I won't! We left Mike the Tiger and headed to New Orleans, Louisiana. We've never visited and thought it might be nice to take a swamp tour, see some alligators, eat some of the amazing food (we are vegetarians so I don't know how we thought that) , tour the area's affected by Katrina, see the vibrant colored homes and all of it's glory.
Boy oh boy, were we wrong. This was not a fly by night, plan as you go type of city! We planned to stay the night but after experiencing the foul smell of the city (at least in the French Quarter) every tour being full, only seeing all of the tourist traps (markets and such), I feel like we went there only to taste Aunt Sally's Carmel Praline. I won't fuss about the heat and the sweat dripping from everywhere because of the humidity. Overall, it was great to see the place that you hear so much of. We were able to share some of the history with Riley, and yes, we did quite a bit of covering her eyes. LOL Not everything is for a 3 year old to see. ;-)
We drove on and decided to take a cruise from Golfport, Mississippi to a private island the next day. We got a hotel and went out on the beach for the evening. However, my phone died so you won't see much from that. It looks amazing at night, we can't wait to see what it looks like when we wake up...
Anyhow, Happy Birthday to an amazing husband and an even better father! We'll make this day up to you since our trip didn't turn out as planned. We still had fun and added a new memory for Riley's childhood and her adventures. We can't wait to see what happens during the rest of our 25 hour trip home.
Thanks for stopping by, don't forget to follow Riley on Social Media and share her site with a friend if you enjoy her video blogs.

Critics of Bayou Bridge Pipeline in Louisiana Decry State Surveillance Effort Targeting Protesters
- In Louisiana, newly disclosed documents reveal a state intelligence agency regularly spied on activists opposing construction of the Bayou Bridge pipeline, which would carry nearly a half-million barrels of oil per day across Louisiana’s wetlands. The documents show the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness regularly drafted intelligence memos on anti-pipeline activists, including a gathering of indigenous-led water protectors who’ve set up a protest encampment along the pipeline’s route. Other newly revealed documents show close coordination between Louisiana regulators and the company building the pipeline, Energy Transfer Partners. This comes just one week after a U.S. district judge in Baton Rouge ordered a temporary injunction against construction of the Bayou Bridge pipeline in order to “prevent further irreparable harm” to the region’s delicate ecosystems, while court challenges proceed. For more, we speak with Pastor Harry Joseph of the Mount Triumph Baptist Church. We also speak with Pamela Spees of the Center for Constitutional Rights and Anne Rolfes, founding director of the Louisiana Bucket Brigade.

Our heroes and soul brothers, Roger Ridley and Grandpa Elliott, return for this Song Around The World, Sitting on the Dock of the Bay, featured on our PFC 2 album. I once asked Roger why with such a powerful voice like his he was singing on the streets, he replied, I am in the joy business, I come out here to be with the people. Roger and Grandpa have brought so much joy to the life of millions and today we are blessed to see them reunited again. We all shine on and Roger's light is as bright as the sun!!

Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band—a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation—a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

San Antonio hosts King Felipe and Queen Letizia
San Antonio, Texas, was host to King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain yesterday. The King and Queen are currently in the United States to celebrate the tricentennial of New Orleans, Louisiana, and San Antonio.Today, they will spend day two in the city.Tuesday, their visit will continue in the capital of the United States – Washington D.C.There, they will be welcomed to the White House by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.Yesterday, Their Majesties were officially welcomed to San Antonio in an official ceremony at the Governor’s Palace where they unveiled a commemorative plaque and received the first edition of the key of the missions of San Antonio. The missions of the city have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.Next, Felipe and Letizia made a visit to the Mission of San José where the Archbishop of the Diocese of San Antonio and the parish priest of the Mission guided them around the church, barn and the acequias system. They took time to greet assembled students, as well, from the organisation “SOS Spain Ambassadors.”These students will soon travel across the pond to Spain.Their Majesties were then at the MagikTheatre building, formally the Beethoven theatre, where the artist Daniel Muñoz.Casa Real explained his work as a “mural in the facade in the context of a series of municipal initiatives aimed at recovering and regenerating the public spaces of the city neighbourhood.” Lunchtime saw Spain’s King and Queen open the exhibit “Designing America: Spain’s Imprint in the U.S.”at the Bexar County Courthouse; this was sponsored by the Spain-United States Council Foundation. After a tour of the exhibition, Their Majesties attended a reception with various guests from the government, judicial authorities and members of the House of Spain and Spanish residents.A short time later, King Felipe held a meeting with the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott. He then held an audience with North American historians and presidents of San Antonio’s main universities. In the evening, a dinner at the Pearl Stable Center was held in honour of the King and Queen’s visit. His Majesty spoke at the event saying, in part, “It is indeed difficult to reach a profound and objective knowledge of History, but it is a worthy endeavour since it can guide us and help us look ahead into the future. How could we not pay tribute to all those who work towards making Spain’s presence in these lands be known and valued fairly? “Where would our historiography be today without the selfless work of great scholars and writers such as Herbert Bolton, as well Carlos Castañeda and, obviously, Gilberto Hinojosa and Félix Almaraz, both present here today? I feel the duty to render them our homage; they have been pioneers in a field where they have excelled in their honesty and intellectual reach.

If God Is Willing and da Creek Don't Rise is a 2010 documentary film directed by Spike Lee, as a follow-up to his 2006 HBO documentary film, When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts. The film looks into the proceeding years since Hurricane Katrina struck the New Orleans and Gulf Coast region, and also focuses on the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and its effect on the men and women who work along the shores of the gulf. Many of the participants in Levees were also featured in this documentary.
It won a Peabody Award in 2010 for ambitiously chronicling one of the hugest disasters in American history, interrogating the well-known narratives and investigating other stories that could have easily fallen through the cracks.[1]
