Incredible UNDERGROUND LABYRINTH in Brno (Labyrint pod Zelným trhem) (What's Up Brno)
Visit with us a large mysterious maze of underground tunnels, corridors, and storage rooms, known as “Labyrinth under Zelný trh”!
Discover a unique system of medieval corridors, cellars, underground wells, and storage rooms hidden some 7 metres below ground.
To evoke a proper medieval atmosphere, Brno’s Labyrinth features storage rooms with wine barrels as a reminder of the local tradition of winemaking, replicas of a pillory and a ‘cage of fools’, and a complete alchemy lab.
Originally, the individual cellars served their owners mainly as storage for food and beer and were not connected.
The city’s website Podzemi.brno.cz claims that the biggest cellar is some 23 metres long with a height varying from 3.5 to 4 metres. The deepest point of the network is 13 metres under the surface.
About ten years ago, the cellars underwent a complete renovation in order to open them to the public. They were connected into a single network of cellars and corridors; hence the name “labyrinth”.
The guided tours of the labyrinth start every hour and a half and are available in foreign languages with an audio guide. The entrance to the labyrinth is in a building in the lower part of Zelný trh, at number 21.
Currently, the Labyrinth under Zelný trh is home to a popular “escape game” that is also available to English speakers (the instructions are written in English).
Fans of underground walks can also visit Brno’s ossuary underneath the Church of St. James (at Jakubské náměstí), “the Mint Master’s Cellar” (at Dominikánské náměstí), or join a guided tour of utility tunnels through the project “Brno Technical Underground” (Brněnské technické podzemí), whose meeting point is at Zelný trh .

The tourist hot spots we cover in this vlog are;
Denis Gardens (Denisovy sady) -
This park is a tribute to the French historian Ernest Denis who played a major role in the establishment of the Czechoslovak state in 1918. The park features a colonnade with a fountain and an 1818 obelisk to commemorate the end of the Napoleonic Wars. You will be getting a view of Spilberk castle from here.
Cathedral of St Peter and Paul -
This cathedral is located on the Petrov hill in the centre of Brno. It is a national cultural monument and one of the most important pieces of architecture in South Moravia. The interior is mostly Baroque in style, while the impressive 84-metre-high towers were constructed to the Gothic Revival designs of the architect August Kirstein in 1904–5 .
You can climb the towers to get a view from both sides of the castle for just 40kc (2 Euro).
Cabbage Market (Zelný trh) -
This market is situated in the middle of the historical city centre. It was established in the 13th century and there used to be shoe-makers, iron and hardware goods, meat and bread shops sold here. Now you can still buy fruit, vegetables and flowers in summer time and there is stalls during holiday period selling different items.
There is an underground labyrinth you can explore with medieval cellars, wine cellars and more.
Capuchin Crypt -
Here you will find some exposed mummified monks which we decided not to record. If you are daring, you can visit.
Ossuary at the Church of St James (Kostnice u sv. Jakuba) -
After Paris, Brno has the second-largest ossuary in Europe. The number of people buried here is estimated to exceed 50,000. You can enter and get to see for your self!
Brno Dam (Brněnská přehrada) -
One of our all time favourite areas especially in summer. This large dam is beautiful to see and you can ride on the boats during the summer season. People go for running, bike riding, bbqs, family activities or picnics here. Don't miss out visiting here.
Brno Observatory and Planetarium (Hvězdárna a planetárium Brno ) -
The planetarium provides visitors and kids to have fun with an opportunity to observe the starry sky, watch audiovisual 2d / 3d programs in the planetarium, and attend interactive performances. There is some mighty telescopes and a calendar full of exciting things to do.
Freedom Square (Náměstí Svobody) -
This is the heart of Brno. All big events of the city like welcoming the New Year, Christmas markets and more take place here. If you seek some entertainment, you can find various kinds of restaurants, nightclubs and discos just around the square. There is also a black granite clock which is the joke of the city due to its shape. It releases a marble everyday on one of the 4 corners at 11am. So make sure to arrive early to try your luck!.

Praha, jídlo, průvod a zrcadla | Prague, food, parade and mirrors
No plans for weekend? so why not to try Prague, visit farmers market, try some food, listen to live music and enjoy good atmosphere. After that we went up to Petrin and we burned some extra calories. Then we get lost in mirror maze, we joined parade and watched sunset over the Prague.
