LAST OCTOBER Trailer 1 (2019) Documentary | City of Santa Rosa
WATCH FULL FILM: srcity.org/lastoctober
This is Trailer 1 for Last October a 50-minute documentary film that captures the experiences during and following the Sonoma Complex Fires from the perspective of several current and former City of Santa Rosa, CA employees and officials who served as first responders, disaster service workers, and community leaders. The documentary was produced by the City of Santa Rosa to capture the recollections of City staff from various departments, as well as council members who were in office at the time of the disaster. These individuals recount both their professional and personal experiences, the critical participation of mutual aid agencies, and the overwhelming selfless support and heroism of the community during and following one of the most destructive wildfires in state history.
Cotati, California
Cotati is an incorporated city in Sonoma County, California, U.S., located about 45 mi north of San Francisco in the 101 corridor between Rohnert Park and Petaluma.
Cotati's population as of the 2010 Census was 7,265, making it the smallest incorporated community in Sonoma County. Like all of Sonoma County, Cotati is included in both the San Francisco Bay Area and the Redwood Empire. Located in the Sonoma Coast AVA, Cotati can also be considered part of the Wine Country. E & J Gallo Winery operates a 400-acre vineyard called Two Rock Vineyard in the hills west of town.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.89 sq mi , 0.53% of which is water.
The city is about 17 mi from the Pacific Ocean. It lies entirely in the drainage basin of the Laguna de Santa Rosa. The Petaluma River watershed begins just south of town. To the west is the Stemple Creek watershed. The sources of all three watercourses lie in the hilly area between Stony Point Road and U.S. 101, just west of town.
A gap in the coastal ridges near Petaluma often allows coastal fog to reach Cotati in the summer, giving it a marine climate that is noticeably cooler and less sunny than the coastal climates of nearby Santa Rosa and Sebastopol. Cotati averages fewer than 800 hours per growing season in the 70–90 °F range.

These individuals recount both their professional and personal experiences, the critical participation of mutual aid agencies, and the overwhelming selfless support and heroism of the community during and following one of the most destructive wildfires in state history. The film provides a firsthand glimpse into the breadth of the City of Santa Rosa’s response and what it was like to work as a public servant during the fires, such as a recreation employee operating an emergency shelter, a City mechanic hearing of the loss of his own house while working to keep public safety vehicles in service, a CityBus worker transporting evacuees, police officers and firefighters on the front lines, and more. In many instances, employees reported to duty not yet knowing the fate of their own homes or of their families who were evacuated.
