Staying With The Akha Hill Tribe - Chiang Rai, Thailand
The Akha are an indigenous hill tribe originally from China, they migrated to Southeast Asia in the early 20th century.
They are one of the largest hill tribe groups in Thailand.

Lahu Hill Tribe village celebrate New Rice Crop in Thailand
I had the honor to visit a small Lahu village near Chiang Rai, Thailand. No running water or electricity, they had a New Rice Crop Festival. The 800 people made me feel like one of their family! They live off the land and are yet filled with gratitude for what they have.

Black Lahu Hilltribe Village, Mae Hong Son Province, THAILAND
Black Lahu Village I have visited back in April last year is probably the poorest village I've ever been to in Asia. Before entering we were told to buy some sweets and drinks as kids would be lined up at the entrance waiting to be given something. Lahu people who originated in south-west China can be found in the mountains of China, Myanmar, Laos and northern Thailand. There are approximately 25,000 Lahus now living in Thailand and four tribes within the Lahu: Black, Red, Yellow and She-Leh. Lahu villages are mostly at high altitude in the northern provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son.
Their houses are built on high stilts with walls of bamboo or wooden planks, thatched with grass. A ladder leads to the open central living area, with a storeroom to one side and living quarters to the other. Their domestic animals like chicken, pigs and buffalos are kept in the basement corral. Their practice of slash and burn agriculture does not provide them with even the basic essentials of life, let alone the enrichment to be found in education for their children, adequate medical care, and the simple amenities of modern life.
