Lake Anza ~ Berkeley California ~ mesmerizing reflections ~
Lake Anza is a recreational swimming reservoir in Tilden Regional Park, which is located in the Berkeley Hills above Berkeley, California.
The lake was created by the construction of the C L Tilden Park Dam in 1938.[1] It was named by the East Bay Regional Park Board in honor of Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza.[2]
The lake is open for swimming from May to September. During this time there is an entry fee required, lifeguards are on duty, and a snack bar is open. The swimming area is restricted to the water alongside a sandy and grassy beach area which is about 70 yards (64 m) long. There is an adult swim area with a length of 44 yards (40 m).[3]
The lake area includes amenities such as changing rooms, bathrooms (toilets), and large parking areas. There are areas around the lake reserved for waterfowl, and other areas for dogs.

Lake Anza was constructed in 1938 with financing by the Public Works Administration (PWA) as a recreational lake while also providing water to the Tilden Park golf course. While the golf course no longer uses Lake Anza water, remnants of the water system remain. The beach and stone bath house were constructed by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The original WPA stone bath house burned down in the 1960s and was replaced with the current facility. ~Wikipedia

This park beautiful and is HUGE 2,079-acre! It will take multiple days to explore every parts of this park. Today we took our baby girl to visit the Little Farm and ride on the Merry-Go-Around. We had a great time and can't wait to explore some more later.

Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve - FREE
-Entrance is on Stonewall Road behind the Claremont Hotel

-Follow the Stonewall Panoramic trail to the lookout point. It is a steep 3/4-mile climb
-The first lookout is nice but keep climbing up!
-At the top there is an extraordinary panoramic view of Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge, Benicia Bridge
-2 hour street parking is available on Stonewall road near the entrance
Telegraph Avenue - FREE
-Berkeley is known for hippies and very open-minded people
-You can feel the vibes walking down Telegraph Avenue

-3rd largest bell and clock tower in the world
-The bells are played daily at noon and 6pm, except Sundays they’re played at 2pm

-As you walk up the steps of the Campanile, turn around to see the Golden Gate

Muir Woods National Monument
--Day trip about 45 minutes away from Berkeley or San Francisco--
-Parking is a disaster because of many tourists.
-There is the Muir Woods Shuttle you can take to avoid this mess
-If the parking lots are full, keep driving down Muir Woods Road until you find a space on the grass
-Hike from your parking spot to the main entrance gate to get a map
-Entrance fee is $10 for ages 16+
-DON’T pay the fee if you’re willing to take a gorgeous hike through the whole monument.
Here’s the insider scoop:
-Start your hike from the “second” parking lot - not one in front of entrance, but the one a bit further down
-Follow the sign that says “to the Ben Johnson Trail” meaning you’re currently on the “Dip Sea Trail.”
-Follow the signs for the Dip Sea Trail until you see the sign for the Ben Johnson trail. Make a right onto the Ben Johnson.
-Follow the Ben Johnson all the way until you reach the entrance
gate of the Monument. Boom! You just completed the whole hike
backwards for free!
-It is about a 2 hour hike at a very comfortable pace with stops for pictures and snacks. Perks:
-Avoid fees
-Gorgeous ocean views
-Tranquility and alone time with the redwoods
-You’ll also end up standing at the exact same spot with all the tourists who paid the $10 to go in #yourenotmissingoutonathing

See the FOX! JUMP in the end of this short vidio. I saw this yesterday, right near the well-traveled road, near where I live... The fox was completely oblivious to both my presence in the running car (you can hear its fairly loud sound, and so did the fox...) and to the passing by cars. It minded its own business nevertheless, hunting something right in my perfect view - as if it did not care of a human.

Sierra SnowPack depth dig and mountain views March 2016
A quick trip up to the SNO-Park March 19, 2016 to see just how deep the snow had gotten this year. As you can see, quite deep! The shovel is about 5ft long, we're guessing this is around 9ft before i was hitting solid road below. We are far enough from the plowed area that this is all natural. Since it was clear and sunny I walked over to get a look at what is left of the ski resort and see the view.
The Snow Pack is our largest water storage and is a measure of how much water we have. If too much melts early we can run out of reservoir space and more is released to the rivers so we typically hope for a late melt but at this point in the drought the reservoirs are so low an early melt would be ok this year.

Logan Butte: Paleontology Bonanza
Paleontological resources are any fossilized remains, traces, or imprints of organisms, preserved in or on the earth's crust, that are of paleontological interest and that provide information about the history of life on earth.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) regards paleontological or fossil resources as a fragile, nonrenewable scientific record. The history of life on earth is an important component of America's natural heritage. If these resources are damaged, destroyed or improperly collected, their scientific and educational value may be greatly reduced or lost forever.
Many kinds of fossils can be found on the BLM-managed public lands in Oregon and Washington, some world-class in scientific importance. Fossils are the remains and traces of once-living organisms, preserved in rocks of the Earth's crust. BLM managed lands in Oregon have fossil resources ranging from near-shore Oligocene marine species along the margins of the Willamette Valley to the well-preserved, remarkably complete fossil record of plants and animals within the heavily eroded volcanic deposits of the scenic John Day River basin.
Fossil deposits in eastern Oregon, in particular, represent a time when primitive mammals began to change and adapt to new environments and show a slow transition into faunas that we recognize today. Researchers from institutions such as the University of Oregon, the University of California-Berkeley, University of Nebraska, University of Florida, and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology conduct studies on public lands to study ecological and evolutionary changes of the past 50 million years.
Two areas on public lands have been designated Areas of Critical Environmental Concern to protect paleontological resources: Logan Butte and Fossil Lake.
