Oroville, California
Oroville is the county seat of Butte County, California, United States. The population was 15,506 at the 2010 census, up from 13,004 in the 2000 census. Oroville is considered the gateway to Lake Oroville and Feather River recreational areas. The city of Oroville has recently annexed two locations in South Oroville, areas A and B, which have a combined population of 2,725 people. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the population of the city to be 17,996 as of January 1, 2016, up 1,908 people or 11.9 percent since 2010. The Berry Creek Rancheria of Maidu Indians of California is headquartered here.
Oroville is located off of State Route 70, and is in close proximity to State Route 99, which connects Butte County with Interstate 5. Chico, California is located about 25 minutes north of the city, and Sacramento lies about an hour south.
Oroville is situated at the base of the foothills on the banks of the Feather River where it flows out of the Sierra Nevada onto the flat floor of the Sacramento Valley. It was established as the head of navigation on the Feather River to supply gold miners during the California Gold Rush.
The town was originally called Ophir City, but the name was changed to Oroville when the first post office opened in 1854 (oro is gold in Spanish).[6] The City Of Oroville was incorporated on January 3, 1906.

Highly noteworthy is the engineering, flood protection, and water delivery assets of the tallest dam in the United States. Governor Ronald Reagan dedicates Oroville dam in this story.

Feather Falls Hike - Oroville California
I state in the video that this is a 10 mile hike, it's actually just a little over 9 miles. But there are hills to climb and some rocky footing so it can be a little bit of a challenge for some. I would consider this a moderate hike. This hike is 26 miles east of the town of Oroville CA. A must-do hike to put on your list. The water is raging in the spring and you will see an abundance of wildflowers, and water water water! (well this year anyway!) Sit back and enjoy the hike!

March 2019. Spring had not sprung yet in California, it is still raining. That is good news for waterfalls! I found two brand new waterfalls, never before documented, on French Creek, near Lake Oroville in northern California, Plumas National Forest, Butte County. This creek normally does not have much flow, but today it was just raging!

Never-seen-before views of 1986 monster storm on American River at Auburn
We found a batch of negative file sheets from the 1986 storm. Many of the photos have never been published. The force of the water blew out the coffer dam on the American River at the Auburn dam project and put this short video together to share. Lake Shasta Caverns in Northern California
Exploring the Lake Shasta Caverns in Northern California is a great half day road trip stop. These caverns are accessed via a boat and shuttle ride just to get to the entrance. It takes about 2 hours and it is fun for the whole family. This video is from summer of 2017.

Folsom Lake
Folsom Lake is a reservoir on the American River in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California.
Folsom Lake located within Placer, El Dorado, and Sacramento Counties. It is about 25 mi northeast of Sacramento. Folsom Lake contains 11,500 acres of water. The lake has a surface elevation of 466 feet. There are 75 miles of undulated shoreline surrounding the lake. Folsom lake and the surrounding Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is one of the most visited parks in the California Park system.
The largest and most natural part of the lake area is the Peninsula which is approximately 1,465 acres.The Folsom Lake reservoir is formed by Folsom Dam, built in 1955 to control and retain the American River. The dam and reservoir are part of the Folsom Project, which also includes the Nimbus afterbay reservoir and dam facilities. The Folsom Project, operated by the United States Bureau of Reclamation, is part of the Central Valley Project, a multipurpose project that provides flood control, hydroelectricity, drinking water, and water for irrigation.
When the dam was built it was designed to hold 976,000 acre feet with a surface area of 11,450 acres. The Dam is 1400 feet wide and 340 feet high, it is a concrete structure with approximately 9 miles of earth fill wing dams and dikes supporting its surrounding areas.
This will most likely be redone later due to the cold weather and lack of access. Soon, I will make a final cut for this video but for now, this lake is finished.
