This video was recorded on top of a floating rock, includes a distant calling loon, and some big wave action at the end of the recording as a boat passes by!
This was a wicked fun video to make with some unexpected surprises. When I first set up my camera on a rock sitting in the water I didn't realize I had set up on a floating rock, which is simply a huge flat rock balancing on top of another rock in the water. Whenever a medium or better sized wave came through the rock would, well, rock! It was really cool. This is also the first time I've recorded a loon calling! Now to video the actual loon!
I never know what I'm going to record when I set up my camera- all I know is that I'm capturing a beautiful moment in Maine and preserving it forever!

Maiden Cliff and Megunticook Lake Hike
This short video shows the hike in Camden Hills State Park (Maine) to Maiden Cliffs, overlooking Megunticook Lake. From these cliffs, an 11-year-old girl fell to her death in 1864; the cross at the top of the cliffs is placed in her memory. The hike continues to be popular with families and features a rewarding view after a short climb (600 feet in one mile).
Day 15 - Camden Hills State Park, ME.
17 Sept. 2013 - Launching Earth Shuttle Columbia - This is Day 16 of our 3 week trip in our new T@B Teardrop camper. It's Columbia's maiden voyage and we're heading up to New England. We've left Acadia National Park and have started our southern route back home down the coast of Maine. Located just north of downtown Camden on the shores of Penobscot Bay, Camden Hills State Park is one of only two State Parks in all of Maine to have both electric and water hook-ups for RVs. The park's 5,700 acres encompasses several mountaintops including Mt. Battie and Mt. Megunticook, the highest mainland mountain on the Atlantic coast (Cadillac Mountain is on Mt. Desert Island). The panoramic view from the lookout atop Mt. Battie provides a beautiful glimpse of this rugged coast and picturesque harbors. The rangers at the park were friendly, the sites were comfortable and the restrooms / showers were clean ..... everything you could ask for. A quick trip into the scenic town of Camden for dinner was a highlight also. Add to that the friendly camaraderie of fellow teardrop campers and you have a memory for life. This is one spot I'd definitely recommend.
Cards Against Humanity buys 6-acre Maine island
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) -- Cards Against Humanity has purchased a 6-acre private island in Maine and is doling out 1-square-foot parcels to participants in its holiday fundraising campaign.
The Chicago-based game-maker bought Birch Island in St. George Lake for about $200,000 in October and renamed it Hawaii 2, the Portland Press Herald ( ) reported.
The company's blog says it joked a couple of years ago that it could have bought a small private island with the money it donated to charity. So this year, it did.
The company sent certificates to about 250,000 participants in a holiday fundraising campaign granting each of them license to a piece of the island. The campaign, dubbed Ten Days or Whatever of Kwanzaa, asked participants for $15 in exchange for 10 mystery gifts announced over 10 days. The square foot of the island was the final gift.
Other gifts included custom cards and stickers bearing curse words. One dollar from every $15 purchase went to nonprofit Sunlight Foundation, a nonpartisan group that promotes transparency in government.
The island, located 27 miles east of Augusta, now appears on Google Maps as Hawaii 2. Cards Against Humanity co-creator Max Temkin said the company chose the name Hawaii 2 because it's the Maine island.
Cards Against Humanity is a card game based around humor, pop-culture references, sexual innuendo and profanity.

Hiking with kids - Mount Battie to Ocean Lookout | Camden Hills State Park
There are shorter ways up Mount Battie. Since we were camping, we hiked from the campground to the summit, then followed Ridge Trail to Ocean Lookout. Well worth the effort.
