The largest and most beautiful alpine lake in North America, it is a freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, straddling the border of California and Nevada.
On the southwest shore, Emerald Bay State Park contains the 1929 Nordic-style mansion Vikingsholm. Along the lake’s northeast side, Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park includes Sand Harbor Beach and Spooner Lake, a gateway to the long-distance Tahoe Rim Trail.

1 year later: Body of missing athlete found in Lake Tahoe
A year after a University of Nevada at Reno football player disappeared while paddle boarding with some friends on Lake Tahoe, a body was found Monday in the lake and is believed to be the missing athlete, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office. Marc Ma, 21, was with a group of his UNR football teammates on June 10, 2016 about 700 yards off shore near Obexer's Marina West Shore.

Lake Tahoe is one of my favorite places in the USA. Here we get a real good look at it. The lake is massive but looks so small as we fly by. You will see the ring of mountains that surround the lake, as well as South Lake Tahoe, the beaches, Heavenly Mountain and casinos at State Line, Nevada. Also you will see the dessert and some of Reno as we fly to the east of Lake Tahoe. This was taken from the first class section of a Continental Airlines 737-900 on our way to Houston from Sacramento.
