Lake Texoma is one of the largest lakes in the United States and is the 12th largest COE lake. More than 6 million visitors annually come to Lake Texoma. With so many great outdoor activities it's no wonder so many people come back time after time. Coupled with the close proximity to the DFW metroplex and the size of the lake -- Texoma is the ultimate getaway spot in Texas. There is boating (of course -- it's an 89,000 acre lake), fishing (70 types of fish call the lake home), kayaking, hiking, skiing, great dining, fun nightlife and camping. 2.5m wide sinkhole-like vortex appears in Lake Texoma, USA
A huge vortex resembling a water sink hole has appeared in Oklahoma’s Lake Texoma and caused water levels to drop (June 8).
Video just released by the Tulsa division of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) shows the ‘intake vortex’ which they reported to be “8 feet in diameter and capable of sucking in a full-sized boat”.
According to the Lake’s Manager, Joe Custer, the vortex was caused by the huge amount of water being released through two hydropower generators and floodgates.

Lake Texoma
This weekend we went to Lake Texoma with Chris’ folks. Lake Texoma is on the boarder to Texas and Oklahoma. It’s one of the largest reservoir in the United States.
We dropped Chris parents off at a hotel on the lake while we launched on the Marina and stayed on the Lake.
We finally got the generator started and Air Conditioning going on the boat….. however it was short lived. Looks like we still have a little trouble shooting to do.
Lake Texoma has a lot of little islands in the middle on the lake. We anchored out and walked around and explored many of these islands. Some had sand, some had clay, some had a bird sanctuarty, some were like a forest to hike. It was really neat.

On June 5, the Tulsa District of the US Army Corps of Engineers opened the gates on the spillway on Lake Texoma, bordering Texas and Oklahoma. The water release created a dramatic-looking vortex in the water. (June 25)

STORYLINE:
Floodwater slowly subsided in parts of the central US states of Oklahoma and Kansas on Thursday evening, while officials in Texas were bracing for another 1 to 3 inches (3 to 8 centimetres) of rain and even more flood damage.
An estimated one-thousand homes in Texas have already been severely damaged or destroyed by widespread flooding since late May.
Officials fear the slightest additional rainfall could cause flash flooding in areas where rivers, lakes and reservoirs are already full to the brim.
A spokesman for the US Army Corps of Engineers, said water could spill over the Denison Dam, in Texas, but no major damage to homes was anticipated.
Still, residents, particularly those living in farm areas near the river that forms the border between Texas and Oklahoma, were warned to take precautions.
In Northern Oklahoma near the Kansas border, Terry Hindman, a lifelong resident of Nowata County, kept an eye on the Verdigris River.
You can see it (water level) coming up. It's come up three or four inches here in an hour. So it's come up pretty fast, Hindman said.
Several of our lakes in the Tulsa district have experienced flooding conditions, added park ranger Steven Armstrong. Fortunately most have crested and are on their way back down.
Although water is starting to drop in the hardest-hit parts of Oklahoma, officials in one town say it could take six months to a year to rebuild in the most heavily damaged areas.
I'm staying with my family. I'm just ready to come home, he added.

Just as a side note, if you were thinking of visiting Electra Lake, it is private. We only found one road leading to the lake, it was near the dam. There is a sign clearly stating that it is private and no trespassing. In order to be able to fish this lake, you must either be a member of the Waggoner family OR an employee of the Waggoner ranch or a family member of an employee of the Waggoner ranch.
