Indian Desserts in Varanasi (and a Cow Stampede)
Indian desserts are very famous in Varanasi. Take a look at this article about Indian sweets -
Now I'm not the biggest sweets fan, in fact, most of the time I'd prefer to fill up on extra rice and curry then save room for dessert. But since Varanasi is a city that's gained a reputation for its high quality of rich Indian desserts, I decided I better have a sample before leaving.
After sampling the Varanasi Indian desserts I definitely wanted to head straight to the Kash Chaat Bhandar ( to get something salty in my mouth!
There are many Indian desserts vendors throughout Varanasi, but right around the Main Ghat within the narrow lanes, you'll find plenty of suitable options. The sweets are very recognizable as they are always housed in clean and bright cabinets that nearly look like shrines themselves. Having no clue what to order, I simply stopped by and asked the vendor to choose me a mixed box. He pulled out a box and after a moment of thinking he filled it with six of his favorites. My box of Indian desserts included laddu, kalakand, lal peda, sandesh, and peda, all of these being quite famous North Indian sweets. They were all similar in color and texture, and appearance from the outside.
So I first began by sampling the laddu. The laddu was very nutty and a little sweet, and it really almost tasted like dry peanut butter. It was about the size of a ping pong ball and brownish in color. Next up was the lal peda, an Indian dessert that looked like a little bit of cookie dough in both appearance and texture. It was very creamy and not quite as sweet as the previous. Next was the kalakand (क़लाक़न्द), another fudge looking Indian sweet. The vendor said that it was very light, though I thought it was still a little rich. It was topped with cashew nuts to give it a nice fragrance and flavor. The sandesh was very similar to the other desserts. The peda was the final sweet, a very famous and popular Indian dessert to specifically eat in Varanasi. As I was eating the peda, a couple of cow came out of nowhere to nearly stampede us. It was definitely a rush as the cows came rushing through and nearly hit myself and my wife, but luckily we were spared and continued on sampling out box of sweets.
As I had suspected, the Indian desserts weren't my favorite as they were so incredibly rich and sweet. However, they were good and I do think one should sample them when in Varanasi!

Los Ghats de Varanasi
Tania Abitbol

Hi
I am Shashank Shekhar Singh. Welcome to my Youtube Channel Go Riders .
About this Video :- Varanasi (Hindustani pronunciation: [ʋaːˈraːɳəsi] (About this soundlisten)), also known as Benares,[8] Banaras (Banāras [bəˈnaːrəs] (About this soundlisten)), or Kashi (Kāśī [ˈkaːʃi] (About this soundlisten)), is a city on the banks of the river Ganga in Uttar Pradesh, India, 320 kilometres (200 mi) south-east of the state capital, Lucknow, and 121 kilometres (75 mi) east of Allahabad. A major religious hub in India, it is the holiest of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) in Hinduism and Jainism, and played an important role in the development of Buddhism and Ravidassia. Varanasi lies along National Highway 2 and is served by Varanasi Junction railway station and Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport.
Dashashwamedh Ghat is the main ghat in Varanasi on the Ganga River. It is located close to ... Idol of Ganga Maata (Goddess Ganges) at Dashashwamedh Ghat. Ganga Aarti (ritual of offering prayer to the Ganges river) is held daily at dusk.
Thank You so much.........

Varanasi Street Food Tour with Anubhav | देव दीपावली Celebration | INSIGHT of Banaras
Dev Deepawali is the festival of Kartik Poornima celebrated in Varanasi, on the full moon of the month of Kartik, i.e. November- December. We made our way to the Ghats of Banaras for this beautiful spectacle.
We started the day at Pappu Tea Stall with a Ginger Lemon Hajmola Tea. This unique cup of tea is the perfect sweet and spicy digestive drink and is great to awaken your sense early in the morning. Our next stop for simple Banarasi breakfast- Kachori and Jalebi. We landed at Chachi Kachori Shop for some delicious Kachori and Sabji. This place is famous for the food they serve and is a favourite amongst the office goers in the area. Then we tried the Jalebi along with some Dahi for sweet yet not too sweet end to this meal!
We went on to try the famous lassi at Shiv Prasad Lassi Bhandar. The lassi here is thick, sweet and creamy and is topped off with some cream and rabri. This super thick concoction is very soothing to the palate especially if you've had something hot and pungent.
Our next stop was in Sigra at a shop called Popular Baati Chokha. The Baati os a dough stuffed with sattu, dals and then cooked over cow dung cakes. The chokha is made from eggplants, potatoes and tomatoes. This is the perfect spicy combination and on the whole it may not look like a lot but this dish is quite wholesome. Lastly how could we end the day without having some paan. So we went Keshav Tambul Bhandar for a classic Banarasi Paan.
In the evening we attended the Dev Deepawali Puja, which is a humongous religious celebration and people from all over the world come to Varanasi to witness this Puja. The celebratory atmosphere, the lights and the happiness on people's faces is worth visiting Banaras at least once in your life!

A Morning at Tulsi Akhada, Tulsi Ghat, Varanasi
Akhadas are the traditional Indian Gymnasiums. This is where men, young & old, go to build their bodies.
Tulsi akhada located close to Tulsi ghat at Varanasi was set up by none other than the Goswami Tulsi Das, whose house is located not too far from the Tulsi Akhada.
This video takes you through the morning routine at Akhada, where these men exercise & practice wrestling. Do not miss the calm on their faces and the agility of their bodies. Especially look at the older gentleman called Sh Mewa Ram, who cleans, exercises and guides the younger men at Tulsi Akhada. Look at the spirituality with which the wrestlers or pahalwans they are called treat their Akhada.
Look at the variety of exercises they do - almost like worshipping their bodies.
