Ferry to Lanai: Camping & Snorkeling in Manele Bay - The Detourist Guide To Travel - Maui | Ep. 21
Enjoy our show? Support it →
On this episode we leave Maui for the weekend and take the ferry to Lanai. We spend the weekend camping on Lanai, hanging with friends at Manele Beach, doing morning yoga and snorkeling in Manele Bay. Lanai is such a beautiful island! Make sure to subscribe to continue following our Maui travel as we spend the next several months experiencing what it’s like to live, work and explore one of the most beautiful places in all of America.
The Detourist Guide To Travel is a long term travel show for the anti-tourist. We’re into experiencing what it’s really like to live, work and enjoy a destination like the locals do, not the people who visit. So, for the past several years we’ve left our home in the Northwest (Tacoma, WA) and lived somewhere new in the world from Vietnam all the way to Spain. What makes us different than the other 100 billion travel vloggers, digital nomads and backpackers on Youtube? We avoid the tourist track. No hostels or resorts. No tour guides or guide books. No souvenirs or travel clothes. We buy vehicles & groceries. We get apartments & jobs. We go slow & take our time, because if a place is worth going, it’s worth staying for a while.

How to Drive Maui’s Road to Hana
The Road to Hana is famous for its twists and turns. And with more than 600 curves along the way, this spectacular coastal drive lives up to its reputation. Learn more in our Island Guide:
Driving Lanai
Driving throughout the island of Lanai by Jeep, you will discover what Lanai really has to offer. Long roads lined with Cook Island Pines, dirt roads that wind through fields of red rocks and sand, winding roads that provide awesome views. Take a look at what's in store as you drive Lanai.
Lanai, Hawaii
Here is a little video about my 2 day staycation of the beautiful island of Lanai, Hawaii. Lanai is the 6th largest of the main 8 islands. Population of just over 3,000 people. Although its nickname is 'pineapple isle', Lanai no longer grows pineapples. However you can buy them at 2 of the groceries stores in the 1 town on the island, Lanai City. There are no red lights, 2 resorts (both Four Seasons), 1 hotel in town, 3 golf courses, 30 miles of paved road, and 1 gas station. i love this island, and it was the friendliest of all the islands I've visited.

SUCCESSFUL DIY MAUI GOAT BOW HUNT FOR OUR HONEYMOON!
Aloha! We are in Maui for our honeymoon, or what we’d like to call our HUNTING MOON.
On this adventure, we are after the feral goat population that lives on top of volcanic rock here in Maui Hawaii.
On the Hawaiian islands, goat hunting is allowed year round in some areas. And you are allowed 2 goats per day per hunter. We are going to be scaling the rocks with our bows, in hopes that we get close enough for an opportunity!
If you liked this hunt, Like & Subscribe us for more! We have several trips planned this year and would love to share those with you.

GEAR WE WISH WE HAD-------------
-HIKING STICKS - This volcano was full of loose gravel and rock.
-Hiking sticks would have saved us a lot of ankle damage.
-SUNSCREEN - Although the weather up here is much cooler than down below, there is zero shade and you are exposed to the sun 100% of the time. We failed to prepare for this and got insanely sunburnt on day 1 of our trip. Bring and use your sunscreen!
-HIKING BOOTS - Lightweight hiking boots are a must!
-FACE MASKS - Face masks would’ve helped us cover our skin from the sun
-MOST IMPORTANT THING: WATER! We ran out of water quickly and did not pack enough.
