LandTrust announce preservation of 122 acres on Green Mountain
March 18, 2016
Donated by long-time Land Trust supporters,
the parcel contains one of the most pristine and naturally protected mountain coves in Madison County.
The property features two primary streams and two waterfalls that ultimately contribute to the Tennessee River. It also preserves well-known Alum Cave.
The future trailhead off South Shawdee Road will welcome visitors
to a place where history and the natural environment are woven together.
The trail will wind through hardwood forest and pine glades.
Visitors will hear birdsong accenting the breezes sweeping up the hollow.
You may also see Eastern Tiger Swallowtails chasing through the trees
and hawks circling above the valley.
Thanks to the insight and generosity of our donors,
the uniqueness and beauty of Alum Hollow will be protected for people to appreciate and enjoy forever,
said Executive Director Marie Bostick.
The Land Trust has a vision and strategy to protect, promote, and preserve the great natural lands of North Alabama,
she continued. These beautiful acres are important pieces in our ongoing conservation work.
Monsoon on Monte Sano Mountain, Fagan Creek, Huntsville AL
8 inches of rain in 7 days transformed Fagan Creek into something spectacular. Enjoy a rare treat as we follow the swollen stream from the bottom of Monte Sano Mountain to where even the trails don't dare go. Just a mile (as the crow flies) from Huntsville city center, yet oceans away. Thank you North Alabama Land Trust!
20190830 Walls of Jericho AL hike
This video is about Hiking the Walls of Jericho in northern Alabama and Southern Tennesee. We hiked this at the end of August and the creeks were low or dry. There werent any waterfalls, but we did see snakes, frogs, salamanders and had perfect weather. It is tough coming out and just a reminder, that we did not have much cell signal during our hike down or in the canyon. Great Hike and I am looking forward to checking this one out again during the fall and spring. Dont forget to subscribe to catch other adventures as they get loaded into youtube! Thanks for being the best person you can be!

Benge Detachment Walk October 2013
Trail of Tears Alabama Chapter members John Stanton and his friend Randy (JR) White walked from Fort Payne, Alabama, to Pulaski Tennessee, along the Benge Detachment Route in the fall of 2013. 1,100+ Cherokee took this route on their way from being forced from Alabama to Indian Territory (now Oklahoma).
John and JR walked over 130 miles in all kinds of weather in order to commemorate the 175th year since the Trail of Tears.
This clip was filmed atop the Land Trust of North Alabama's Blevins Gap Preserve in Huntsville, Alabama.
The videographer apologizes for the poor quality and vows to use a monopod or tripod next time. -CM

We took the kiddos to play at the awesome nature preserve, and decided to hike out to what was marked CAVE on the map. Kinda small entry way, but it was a cave.

Hiking at Wade Mtn Nature Preserve - Huntsville, AL
On my last full day in Huntsville, AL, I didn't feel like biking so I went for a hike at the Wade Mtn Nature Preserve via the Wade Mtn Trailhead.
On this hike, I hit up the Wade Mtn Greenway which turns into the Wade Mtn Trail, over to the Fossil Bench Trail to the end of the property, then back to the intersection of the Bostick Trail, up the Bostick Trail back to the Wade Mtn Trail and back out the greenway.
I had read of being able to find fossils somewhere, but I guess I wasn't looking in the right spot. I was mistaken thinking the location would be at the edge of the property, but it wasn't. If anyone knows of where to look, please comment below.
For anyone interested in the route I hiked, you can check it out via this Strava link:
