Palacio de las Dueñas is a palace in Seville, Spain, currently belonging to the House of Alba. It was built in the late 15th century in the Renaissance style with Gothic and Moorish influences.
The palace of Las Duenas is one of the major historic homes in the city of great architectural and artistic heritage. The poet Antonio Machado was born here, as were Carlos Falcó, Marqués de Griñón and Marqués de Castelmoncayo. On October 5, 2011 Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, 18th Duchess of Alba married here. It became a national monument, now a Bien de Interés Cultural, on June 3, 1931. It is open to the public.
The palace of Las Duenas was constructed in the late 15th century, a time associated with a robust economy in the area, which included the construction of the Alcazar Real and the Casa de Pilatos. It was built by the Pineda family, Lords of Casabermeja.
The palace consists of a series of courtyards and buildings. The style ranges from Gothic art-Moorish to the Renaissance, with local influences in the bricks, shingles, tiles, whitewashed walls and pottery. Its mixed style resembles that of Casa de Pilatos and Casa de los Pinelo.
One of its main attractions is a large, decorative art collection which contains 1,425 artefacts. According to the newspaper El País these items are protected under Andalusian law, prohibiting their sale and safeguarding their place in the palace. There is a large collection of Spanish paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries including Jacopo Bassano (Los cacharreros), Sofonisba Anguissola, Annibale Carracci, Francesco Furini (La creación de Eva), Luca Giordano, Giovanni Paolo Pannini, José de Ribera (Cristo coronado de espinas), Francisco Antolínez, Joaquín Inza and Neri di Bicci. There is also a watercolor by Jackie Kennedy, painted during her visit in 1960 when she stayed in the bedroom once used by France's Empress Eugénie de Montijo. The paintings represent only a small part of the family's artworks, most of which are in Madrid's Palace of Liria. The Palacio de las Dueñas also has a significant collection of antique furniture, ceramics, tapestries and other artefacts.

Hundreds took to the streets of Seville on Friday to pay their final respects to Spain's 18th Duchess of Alba, who died last Thursday.
King Juan Carlos I, actor Antonio Banderas and singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanzy were among well-known Spanish names to offer their personal condolences. A resident who watched the funeral procession described the Duchess as a much-loved woman who is well respected in Seville because she has done a lot for the city.
Maria del Rosario Cayetana Alfonsa Victoria Eugenia Francisca Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, 88, or 'Cayetana' as friends called her, was among Europe's wealthiest aristocrats. Holding more than 40 titles, she was named the world's 'most-titled' noble by the Guiness Book of Records. She died surrounded by family in her favourite property, Palacio de Duenas in Seville, which is famous for its lemon tree-filled courtyards.

En Sevilla el palacio de las Dueñas abre sus puertas al público
2016. Abre sus puertas al público el palacio de las Dueñas, en Sevilla, propiedad de la Casa de Alba. El palacio, lugar en el que vivió sus últimos momentos y murió la duquesa de Alba, Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, está repleto de obras de arte y de historia.
Las diez de la mañana es la hora prevista para que abra sus puertas al público. Según su propietario el duque de Alba, Carlos Fitz-James Stuart, la apertura significa la devolución a los sevillanos del cariño que profesaron a su madre. Construida entre los siglos XV y XVI, Dueñas es una joya arquitectónica y uno de los principales palacios de la ciudad, mezcla de estilos gótico, mudéjar y renacentista. El valor de las pinturas, esculturas, tapices y muebles que alberga es incalculable. El palacio tiene una capacidad de aforo de alrededor de 350 personas. El precio de las entradas es de ocho euros. El importe íntegro recaudado se destinará exclusivamente a la conservación del inmueble y de los tesoros que encierra. Con declaraciones de la consejera de cultura, Rosa Aguilar, del duque de Alba, Carlos Fitz-James Stuart, y del alcalde de Sevilla, Juan Espadas.

El Palacio de Las Dueñas es Bien de Interés Cultural desde 1931, un edificio situado en la ciudad española de Sevilla, en Andalucía, fue levantado en el siglo XV, de estilos gótico-mudéjar al renacentista y es uno de los principales inmuebles de la ciudad, por su valor histórico, arquitectónico, artístico y por la importancia de sus bienes muebles.

Encontrar las huellas de Eugenia de Montijo en el Palacio de Las Dueñas de Sevilla, residencia del Duque de Alba, es más sencillo de lo que podría esperarse. La española que llegó a emperatriz de los franceses tras su matrimonio con Napoleón III era la tía-bisabuela de Cayetana de Alba y tatarabuela del actual duque, Carlos Fitz-James Stuart. Pero la relación va mucho más allá.

Seville (Spanish: Sevilla) is the capital of Andalucia and the cultural and financial centre of southern Spain. Seville is Andalucia's top destination, with much to offer the traveler. The city is situated on the banks of the smooth, slow Guadalquivir River, which divides the city into two halves: Sevilla and Triana. The Guadalquivir (known as Baetis by the Romans and as Betik / al-Wādī al-Kabīr by the Arabs) has had a major impact in the history of the city. The location of Seville is roughly coincident with the point where the Guadalquivir stops being useful for navigation. It is at this point that the cereal producing region of the Guadalquivir Valley starts, and Seville has acted as a sea-port for commerce of agricultural goods produced farther west. Intense trade existed in the area from Roman times, continued under Muslim rule, and exploded as Seville monopolized the new trade with the Americas. As the monopoly was broken and Cádiz largely took Seville's place, the city entered a period of relative decline.
In the 19th century Seville gained a reputation for its architecture and culture and was a stop along the Romantic Grand Tour of Europe. Seville has built on its tourism industry since, playing host to the International Exposition in 1992, which spurred the construction of a new airport, a new train station, a bullet train link to Madrid, new bridges and improvements to the main boulevards. Tourist facilities are top-notch and the city is buzzing with festivals, color and a thriving nightlife scene.
Seville has 11 districts, further divided into 108 neighbourhoods.

Seville is home to many beautiful artifacts, some of the more popularly known are plates and Spanish tiles. Triana offers many ceramic factories where one can buy various tiles from authentic craftsmen. There are stores that custom design plates and tiles near the cathedral, especially in Calle Sierpes, but across the river in Triana are other worthwhile pottery stores. Depending on the time of year, but especially leading up to Christmas, there are a number of artisan fairs throughout the city.

Sevilla has a great public transportation system. The buses run frequently and cover the majority of the city in their routes. There is a refillable multimodal card (named Tarjeta del consorcio), that can be used in local and metropolitan buses, the tramway and the metro, allowing transfers for two hours.
Seville, like most Andalusian destinations, is known for its tapas. Tapa, while it is associated with certain dishes, is actually a size and many restaurants or bars will offer a tapa, 1/2 ración (half serving, although sometimes enough to make a meal) and ración (serving) of the same dish.
Seville is an emblematic city of Andalusia whose charm is known around the world. Culture, gastronomy, architecture, climate, mentality and lifestyle are dreaming all travelers. You can find many charming corners, unsuspected views of the city or exceptional locations close the most beautiful historical monuments. There are many beautiful and unexpected accommodations accessible for short and medium stay. Accommodation prices change with the tourist seasons. High season is April, May, September & October, Semana Santa, and Feria; mid season is March & June. Visits are recommended in November.
