Hawaii Big Island part 1
Hawaii Big Island part 1
In late January, I flew to Hawaii to embark on a week long holiday with my closest friends from university. A lot of us flew in from Philippines, California, Texas and New Zealand. Hawaii is such a wonderful place to visit. A week was short but we packed it with a lot of hiking, beaching and trying out the local culture. In this video, you'll see our adventures from Hapuna beach, Mauna Kea summit, Volcanoes National Park, Kilauea Iki Crater, and lava flow from the Kilauea volcano. Check out my previous Hawaii video where we explored the island of Oahu. Next video will be more of the Big Island where we explored beautiful secluded beaches. Oh and btw, all these were filmed on an iPhone 6. :)

Lava flows in Pahoa - Eruption Update
This video was made to show at the Pahoa Transfer Station for schoolchildren visiting to see the new lava flows. It gives a brief history of what happened up though November 2014.
Hawaii Island Volcanoes
The island of Hawaii is built from five separate shield volcanoes that erupted somewhat sequentially, one overlapping the other. These volcanoes are: Kīlauea, Mauna Loa, Hualālai, Mauna Kea and Kohala.

A Lava Lake in Antarctica That Surprised Scientists
What comes to your mind when you hear the word Antarctica? Glaciers, ice, frost, snow, uninhabitable desert - well, you get it. But how about a lake of bubbling lava hidden deep under the ice? An unlikely connection, right? But that's actually a very real and highly unusual Antarctic phenomenon that was just recently discovered.
Until recently, people only knew about 7 such lakes bubbling in different regions of our planet. But here we go now: in July 2019, scientists discovered one more! It is resting in the crater of the active volcano. Even though it's not the largest lava lake in the world, it’s still very impressive, with a diameter varying from 300 to 700 feet!

SUMMARY:
- Already in the 1990s, scientists noticed some weird thermal anomalies occurring around the crater of the volcano. Unfortunately, at that time, the resolution of the photos was too bad to prove the existence of the lava lake.
- Antarctica’s lava lake is resting in the crater of the active volcano, Mount Michael, located on small, remote Saunders Island in the South Atlantic Ocean.
- One of the main reasons why the lava lake was only recently discovered is its remote location.
- Anyway, it would have taken scientists much longer to confirm their lava-lake suspicions but for the high-resolution satellite images. Before that, they only knew that a temperature anomaly on Saunders Island did exist.
- The thing is that hundreds of volcanoes erupt by spitting out lava, which then gathers into small lakes and pools of molten rock.
- Sulfur dioxide, steam, and carbon dioxide keep temperatures inside craters so high, that the lava constantly stays in its liquid state.
- Since 1882, the Mount Nyiragongo volcano has erupted a whopping 34 times! What's more, some of these eruptions, in the form of a bubbling lava lake, lasted for years.
- You'll need to be extra cautious with this treacherous volcano and the lava lake it contains. It emits extremely toxic carbon dioxide gas that seeps right up from the ground.
- Mount Erebus is situated in the coldest place on Earth - and still hosts a lava lake with the habit of launching lava bombs (which are flying globs of molten rock).
- Interestingly, Mount Erebus follows its own pattern - the volume of its gas plumes falls and rises every 5 to 18 minutes.
- As for Kilauea in Hawaii, it's one of the world's most active volcanoes, and it used to host not just one, but two lava lakes!
- Both of these lakes remained molten and active until they just... disappeared in 2018!

15 Craziest Images Of Volcanic Activities
From the Italian Etna erruption to the Russian erruption of Kliuchevskoi, here are 15 Craziest Images Of Volcanic Activities.
Subscribe to Hectic Express
6 - Etna Erupts
The largest active volcano in all of Italy exploded with a massive eruption of fire and devastation on February 27th, 2017. Spewing fountains of bright glowing orange and red colored lava eroded into the night skies over Sicily as shown in this spectacular photograph. This volcano is well known for constantly belching out little spews of lava or hot vacuums of molten gas, however despite being the tallest volcano in all of Europe, this famously active volcano rarely erupts like it did on this epic fall of night. Luckily the reported clouds of ash are contained high in the mountainous terrain of Southern Italy and neighbouring towns merely watched as the lava spilt down the cancerous mountain's edge.
5 - Plymouth Plumes
This overseas territory of the United Kingdom found on a tiny island inside the West Indies positioned beneath the Soufriere Hills volcano woke up one morning in 1995 to a horrible explosive sight. The volcano which had been inactive for centuries was erupting in a series of pyroclastic flows and lahars, which is a fancy way of saying large spurts of flowing lava, mud and debris combined to create a wet concrete like ash. Plymouth became a ghost town overnight as several months of volcanic activity eventually labelled the capital as an exclusion zone. The pyroclastic flows and lahars were so compact and concrete like that bulldozers and explosives were considered, but after anticipating that the soil underneath the hardened ash ridden mud and lava would have left the ground scorched and unusable the town was quickly abandoned and now rests as a grave warning to never underestimate Mother Nature. Photographers are primarily the only inhabitants ever seen on this ashy island world covered in soot and dead dreams.
4 - Chili Cookoff
This volcano located inside Chile erupted two times in one day back in 2015 sending massive plumes of ash over 12 miles into the chaotic air. Calbuco is a stratovolcano, which basically means it’s a composite volcano, which are known for their explosive eruptions and this blast of volcanic activity was nothing to scoff at. This dramatic eruption was so intense the explosion actually caused it's own lightning storm. Smoke columns painted ferocious crimson red by rushing gushing lava and enormous composites of ash plumes laced with self made lightning were a photographer's dream as clearly shown in this crazy photograph of the carnage.
3 - Sakurajima Submersion
A German Photograph caught a series of spectacular shots from Kyushu Japan of Sakurajima erupting. Shrouded in thick coats of flying lava and electrifying lighting covered in flaring molten rock and jolts of thunder ravaged the Japanese countryside in 2013. The stunning imagery showcases bright red fire and devastating hues of blue flames converging against the dirty thunderstorm centered inside this massive eruption of volcanic activity.
2 - Northern Lights and Arctic Volcano Velocity
North of Iceland in the Fimmv ruh-ls mountain pass a volcanic eruption devastated the Arctic tundra in a blast of fiery fury just as the Aurora Borealis turned on Mother Nature's own spotlights. The green lights soaring through the sky as darkness first settled over the frozen landscape make for a beautifully terrifying and striking image. This crazy coverage of a volcano bursting with lava filled life as the Northern lights painted the sky above took place in 2012 by photographer James Appleton.
1 - Russia Ravaged
Here's an interesting snapshot, what we are seeing here is a volcanic eruption taken from space! In October of the infamous year of 1994 the Kliuchevskoi volcano found in Russia erupted in a massive plume of fire, ash, smoke and of course ravaging devastation. This image was taken by the United States own NASA space shuttle, the Endeavour. These Russian volcanoes are some of the most active and vicious volcanoes on the entire planet. The eruption set forth gas, vapor, and ash which reached altitudes of 50,000 feet above the ground. The melting snow mixed with the molten hot lava and triggered a devastating series of mudflows on the flanks of these indiscriminate massively violent volcanoes.

USGS fears Hawaii's erupting Kilauea volcano could take YEARS before it fully empties lava
HAWAII’S erupting Kilauea volcano could take many more years before it fully empties its underground reservoirs of molten lava, United States Geological Survey (USGS) scientists gravely warned.
Scientists fear the lava released by Kilauea so far has not even scratched the surface of its hidden magma reserves.
When asked if the Hawaii volcano’s chambers will empty any time soon, the US agency admitted there is no accurate way of knowing.
