'Italian Roma' Update -- 2017 Heirloom Tomato Growing
This year we are experimenting with growing bush tomatoes in a cage-free setting as part of an endeavor to seek out methods that require less labor and or equipment.
Thus far the plants have adapted and are able to support themselves. Unfortunately, this overzealous grower thought that healthy tomatoes would be immune to density issues.
Correction: I dunno why I said, [Blossom end rot] is also known as BOT. That is not accurate.

Tomato Horn Worms
Danny found a few horn worms on our tomatoes and small worms on the green beans. Just a few more pestilence that we deal with here in the Deep South.

How To Prune & Stake San Marzano Tomatoes (indeterminate)
If you're like me then gardening isn't really about the harvest because I'm more interested in the process of growing & tending to the plants ✂️???? I don't eat tomatoes other than in salsa ???? or spaghetti sauce ???? but I love managing the plants for some reason. The daily pruning is just as therapeutic for you as it is the plants. Pruning can be done with your hands or with pruners & will help with a few things - removing old or dead plant material to prevent disease or fungus or pest issues ???????????????? directing more energy from vegetative growth into flower/fruit production ???????? and keeps the nutrients flowing towards productive parts of the plant rather than suckers or offshoots ???????????? Staking your tomato plants is another important part of growing tomatoes. In my garden I am using bamboo stakes and the Max Tapener HTR2 machine but you can use almost any kind of stake and tying material ???? Keep in mind that only Indeterminate tomatoes need pruned & staked - determinate tomatoes like Roma will prefer a cage & NO pruning ????????????
ROMA TOMATO'S FROM HOME GARDEN AUG.31 2014
This has been one terrible summer for my garden.
Not only are things late even if they did grown but just ready for bugs now. Pears and Apples don't taste right. Fall raspberries are now here. Weeds and tall grass grew faster then veg.

Pulling the Roma Tomatoes and Replanting
The Roma tomatoes have really slowed down in production, so we decided to pull them. We harvested all the tomatoes from the plants, pulled the vines, and replanted where they were with butter beans.
