Lee Joong Seop Street in Seogwipo Jeju
Jeju Island Korea Travel Guide, Artist Lee Jung-seob is famous for his paintings, remnant Fauvism, including one called White Cow. During the Korean War, he spent a year as a refugee in Seogwipo with his wife and two sons in a rented little house, where he produced many masterpieces.
Although the stay was only temporary, it was one of the happiest times for Lee and certainly the most productive one. Realizing her importance, Seogwipo City bought the house and turned it into Lee Jung-seob Memorial Room. The street in front of his house, which he lived day and night, was renamed Lee Jung-seob Street. Lee Jung-seob Gallery is just behind a restored home. This gallery has more than 8 works by Lee Jung-seob and 52 works of modern Korean painters donated to Seogwipo City by Lee Ho-Jae (CEO of Gana Art). Lee Jung-seop - Painter of the People Living in a Dark Era
In 1950, at the peak of the conflict between North and South Korea, the Korean War broke out. Lee Jung-seop left his mother in the North and fled to the South. After first going to Jejudo Island, he roamed around the country - Busan, Daegu, Tongyeong, Jinju, Seoul, etc. - and fervently focused on his artwork amidst poverty.

Marking the centennial birth of the artist, the retrospective exhibition Lee Jung-seob Died casts light on the lesser-known side of the artist, including the stories of his life, how his works were made and the inspiration behind them. Tracing the events of his life, we can figure out how he became a legend.

???????? TIFF GOES TO KOREA EP 7 I Jeongbang Waterfall, Yakchunsa Temple, Jusangjeolli Cliff, Trick Eye
In this episode of Tiff In Korea, we go visit the beatiful jeongbang waterfall, Yakchunsa Temple, see the breathtaking Jusangjeolli cliff and watch a woman see fresh seafood by the cliff. Lastly we go to the trick eye museum before heading back to Seoul!
Tips for this episode:
1. Be careful when going to the jeongbang waterfall! It is super slippery and I recommend bringing a light/thicker jacket depending on what season you go as it can get pretty cold.
2. Trick Eye Museum was not comparable to the one in Seoul. I prefer the one in Seoul better. The app that goes along with the museum wasn't working (?) or that they didn't have that many animated images.
3. We used the yeha tours for this part of the trip. I highly recommend it if you are new or coming to jeju for the first time. It's different than a private taxi tour in that food and admission to all the sight seeing places was included.
*
downside is of course you don't get the luxury to take your time. Especially when we were at the trick eye museum we had a time constraint so we didn't fully get to experience it and take as many pics.

Love & Art Exhibition
[Anchor Lead]
An exhibition of works by renowned Korean artist Lee Jung-seob has opened to mark what would have been his 100th birthday. The artist's works depicting the love story between himself and his Japanese wife are especially noteworthy.
[Pkg]
A couple holds one another tightly. The image of Lee Jung-seob and his wife drawn on cigarette foil represents the couple's strong affection. Although they struggled to make ends meet due to war, the artist lived a happy life thanks to his wife and their two sons. However, Lee had to send his family to Japan due to various hardships. In his ensuing works, he expressed how much he missed them. But he died at the young age of 40 before he had the chance to reunite with his beloved wife. Lee met his wife, Yamamoto Masako, when he was studying in Japan. The couple tied the knot in 1945 but they only got seven years to enjoy their marital bliss. It was memories of their life together that kept her going over the past six decades.
[Soundbite] Yamamoto Masako(Lee Jung-seob's Widow) : I heard that he was very handsome. We met in a room for washing brushes.
The audio guide of the exhibition showcasing Lee's works is actor Lee Jung-jae, who has acted as the PR ambassador of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art since 2012. The actor says he will donate all the proceeds from the exhibition.
[Soundbite] Lee Jung-jae(Actor) : Hello. I am Lee Jung-jae. I would like to welcome everyone and I hope that all of you will enjoy the exhibition.
The exhibition puts on display a collection of postcards and letters that were sent across the Korea Strait to express strong feelings of yearning. The great artist's works showing his love for his family will tug on the heartstrings of anyone who visits.
