Danube Delta, Romania - A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Danube Delta was one of the destinations I was most looking forward to visiting on my trip to Romania. It’s a stunningly beautiful place, teeming with delicious fish from the Danube River and the Black Sea. #Romania #DanubeDelta #Food
Green Village Resort - First of all a huge thank you to Green Village Resort for hosting us and for arranging this entire amazing Danube Delta experience in Romania.
We arrived in the evening, and started with an incredible seafood fish feast at the resort before calling it a night.
In the morning we got on a boat for breakfast, tried fishing without any luck, and ended up in a narrow waterway in the beautiful Danube Delta for breakfast. The smoked fish and smashed onions were the highlight.
Fisherman soup - For lunch, we made a huge pot of local style Danube Delta fish soup.
King of Romanian Seafood at La Mache - Finally to end this incredible Romanian seafood tour of the Danube Delta we drove to a restaurant called La Mache. I had no idea what to expect. Turned out to be a full show of fish and seafood from the Black Sea and the Danube Delta and one of the most spectacular meals of my entire trip to Romania.
Also, thank you to Nassim ( and Cristian ( for setting up this incredible trip.

Winter Steam & Diesel in Romania 2015
For clickable index, please expand description!
Scenes from a 10-day winter journey through Romania mostly in beautiful cold weather with some snow. I travelled there on sleeper train Ister and back on Corona. The first two days I captured scheduled CFR class 60 (Sulzer) and 65 (EMD) diesel locomotives around Sibiu and Cluj as well as partly second-hand DMUs (ex German DB class 614 and Dutch NS class DH2 Wadloper).
The main week of the trip was spent on a Tanago photo steam charter tour on the narrow gauge logging railways of well-known Vaser Valley ( Valea Vaserului / Wassertal ) and Moldovita. In total six locomotives were under steam, one day we took pictures riding a diesel railcar. Vaser Valley Mocanita is the last timber line still in operation featuring long diesel production trains hauled by Faur L45H class 87 locomotives, draisines converted from vans plus other interesting vintage and current forestry scenes.

EP. 14 - Lemon Bucket Orkestra - Balkan Station Romanian Tour 2012
After our visit to the Canadian Embassy, we hopped in a bunch of cabs and drove just outside of Bucharest to a school in a Roma community. The kids were really excited; some greeted us at the gate. When we started to play, the classroom turned into a full-on dance party. Then we invited the kids to play our instruments and we made some (awesomely chaotic) music together!

Oldest Pub in Ireland - Dublin's The Brazen Head (since 1198)
It's not everyday that you get to visit the Oldest pub in a country. While in Dublin we had the opportunity to have lunch at the Brazen Head which has been in existence since 1198. What was fascinating about this pub was all of the different theme rooms. You could eat either inside or outside. We chose to eat outside where we ordered burgers, soup and - of course - pints of Guinness.

Oldest Pub in Ireland - The Brazen Head in Dublin (since 1198) Travel Video Transcript:
So hello from Ireland. We are here in Dublin and it is lunchtime so we've tracked down the oldest pub in the whole country. We are here at the Brazen Head which apparently dates back to 1198. That's like what 900 hundred years or so that this place has been around. But I mean obviously not the whole structure is authentic. It is probably just a few bricks and stones. But anyways it is the oldest in the country and we're here for lunch.
So Sam is having his Guinness and I'm going for a nice pot of tea. Got to stay warm in the city. teetotaller. Owe that burns. Oh my gosh. Hahaha. Wow. That is hot. Careful over there. Be careful.
I've seriously been waiting for this for a long time. Of course I've tried Guinness before but this is my first pint of Guinness in Ireland and I'm ecstatic because it is basically my favorite beer in the whole world.
Ooh.
An extra special beer today. Oh, so fresh. So tasty. You know what, I could drink this literally as a meal. It's that good.
So it is a cold day here in Dublin so I've gone for a cream of vegetable which isn't a very typical Irish dish but I think it is going to keep me warm.
Mmmmm.
Tasty?
Very.
So you've gone for something a little bit more hearty. Yeah, like this burger is enormous. It's one of the biggest looking burgers I've had in a while. Oh la lah.
And these fries. These are the thickest cut of fries. Look they're thicker than my finger.
I hope you're planning to share. Hahahaha. I don't know about that.
Time to try one of these bad boys.
It's hot.
Yeah, they're done really nicely. Really crispy on the inside and mushy in the middle.
Like that.
Ready to devour that monster burger of yours? Alright, this thing is so massive I'm barely able to hold it here.
Wow. Can you chew and describe it at the same time? That was such a big bite.
So I got a bit of everything in that bite. Bacon, the meat, the vegetables and the lettuce and the patty. That's a really good burger. It's thick, the meat is juicy and the cheese is fresh and delicious.
Let's have a little bit of a travel update. What are we going to be doing over the next few weeks?
So, over the next two weeks first we're going to be spending one week in Dublin just checking out the city, visiting some of the main attractions, eating lots of Irish food and seeing what that is all about.
And then our second week in Ireland we're actually parting ways. Sam and I will be doing our own thing. I'm doing a girls road trip with my two sisters. You sound really happy about that. Yes!
But yeah, I'm doing a girls road trip for a whole week and my sisters and two of my friends are flying over from Canada. So this is just going to be the five of us. That will be lots of fun and no boys allowed.
And I guess Sam, you're going to be hanging out here watching football. All by my lonesome huh? Mmm hmmmm.
That's the plan.
So it is not all doom and gloom over here. Even though I'm by myself I'm planning a trip up to Kerry and I'm going to be coming back to Dublin and I'm going to watch some Gaelic football. I don't know a lot about the sport but they're having a really huge event happening and I want to take it in.
Well that was a really neat bar. What kind of makes it unique, aside from it being the oldest pub in all of Ireland of course, is that there is all of these different kinds of rooms. You can eat outside, you can eat inside a bar and there is a second level up top. And so we checked out most of it.
This is part of our Travel in Ireland series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Irish culture, Irish arts, Irish foods, Irish religion, Irish cuisine and Irish people.

House for sale in Romania
House for sale in Romania
The photos were taken in April 2012 and show the house and the local landscape including the view from ground level outside the house.
ATIA, TRANSYLVANIA, ROMANIA - £9,500
A traditional stone and timber house in beautiful Transylvania, nicely located in a quiet village with views over the surrounding countryside and close to the Tarnava Mare and Praid salt mine tourist areas, offered for a quick sale at only £9,500.
The house has mains water and electricity, one large bedroom, a large sitting room, hallway, kitchen, veranda and balcony. The lower ground level comprises two storage rooms and a woodshed. Externally there is a parking area, garden and an orchard. It comes part-furnished with tables, chairs, two beds, kitchen furniture, a wood-fired cooking/heating range and a gas cooker. It has potential for alteration and improvement - up to 85% EU grant aid may be available if you want to improve it for use as a guest house:
Outgoings are minimal -- local tax (council tax equivalent) would be around £15 per year for full time occupation (currently £10/year because it is registered for weekend use), water £2/year and no standing charge for electricity so you pay only for what you use. Romania is a cheap place to live or visit - a large bottle of beer in the village bar costs 2.5RON -- about 45p.
Transylvania is one of the most beautiful parts of Europe, rich in myth and history. It contains the world's only surviving mediaeval landscape and is abundant with mediaeval fortress towns, monasteries, castles, fortified churches and picturesque villages where people live as they did a hundred years ago. You could experience this for yourself, spending time amongst communities that still rely on wells for water and horses for ploughing. Prices are still a fraction of those in comparable regions elsewhere in Europe and you would not be alone in seeing the opportunities -- Prince Charles has already bought and restored properties in the area and these are now used as holiday lets. Here's a link to a video of one of his houses -- this house is smaller but a similar style.
Here are some links to other websites about the region:
The nearest airport is about 50 miles away at Targu Mures with direct flights to London Luton, and when the new motorway network currently being constructed is complete it will be less than an hour's drive. This will also give good access to skiing resorts at Brasov, Bucharest and other areas of interest.
Here's a link to a location map showing the actual house:
The house is priced to sell. You will not find a house of this quality at this price anywhere else in Transylvania and particularly in this most accessible and interesting part. You could buy something cheaper in Bulgaria, but Bulgaria is never going to be the next Tuscany -- it just doesn't compare. It is ideal as a holiday home or for holiday lets, or you could just let it to a local and watch it rise in value. You would expect to pay more than this for a bare building plot.
The property has a modern registered 'Carte Funciara' title, very similar to a UK Land Registry title. The sale process is simple - simpler than in the UK, as the sale transaction is conducted by an official notary, a legally registered officer who will ensure that everything is done correctly. You don't need a lawyer (although of course you may decide to appoint one) and you can authorise someone in the notary office to act for you so you don't have to go there yourself. There are no agent's fees and no mapping costs which you would have to pay if you buy a house with old title papers.
Romania joined the European Union in January 2007 with a five-year foreign land ownership restriction which expired at the end of 2011, so any EU citizen can now buy a house in Romania. There are websites still advising that you have to set up a local limited company to buy a Romanian house - this is no longer true and once more people know this prices should rise accordingly.

Sinaia (Romanian pronunciation: [siˈnaja]) is a town and a mountain resort in Prahova County, Romania. It is situated in the historical region of Muntenia. The town was named after Sinaia Monastery of 1695, around which it was built. The monastery in turn is named after the Biblical Mount Sinai. King Carol I of Romania built his summer home, Peleș Castle, near the town in the late nineteenth century.
Sinaia is about 65 kilometres (40 miles) northwest of Ploiești and 48 kilometres (30 miles) south of Brașov, in a mountainous area on the Prahova River valley, just east of the Bucegi Mountains. The altitude varies from 767 to 860 metres (2,516 to 2,822 feet) above sea level.
The city is a popular destination for hiking and winter sports, especially downhill skiing. Among the tourist landmarks, the most important are Peleș Castle, Pelișor Castle, Sinaia Monastery, Sinaia Casino, Sinaia train station, and the Franz Joseph and Saint Anne Cliffs. Sinaia was also the summer residence of the Romanian composer George Enescu, who stayed at the Luminiș villa.
