Taipei Ningxia Night Market 台北 寧夏夜市
Located in the heart of the downtown Taipei, Ningxia Night Market may be smaller in scale but it still delivers in charm and flavour. This night market focuses more on food, so if you’re here for a gastronomy adventure, you’re at the right place. With vendors tightly packed together allowing for a narrow walkway, you can expect to get up close and personal with strangers but most importantly, the food!
Must-try street food in Ningxia Night Market:
Sesame-coated mochi
Sesame oil chicken
Oyster omelette
Fried taro balls
賴記蚵仔煎
蓮飲料吧
童年木瓜牛奶 Childhood Papaya Milk
方家雞肉飯 Fang’s Chicken Rice
劉芋仔 Liu’s Yam Ball

Last Day in Taipei Gongguan Night Market & Taiwanese Shaved Ice - vlog #048
Today's my last day in Taipei Taiwan and I spent most of the day planning my next leg of the trip to Hong Kong. So I had to make sure I had my flight and airbnb booked and somewhat had to take a look at what I'm going to do there. I'll going to Ambassador Theater to watch Star Wars The Last Jedi and showing you what you can expect when you arrive at this particular theater. It's similar to what you would experience at a theater in the U.S., but some of the steps are slightly different.
For dinner we'll be heading over to the Gongguan Night Market 公館夜市商圈 This night market feels to me like a smaller version of Ximending and is pretty nice. There's tons of store's here for clothes, shoes, restaurants, bars, and street food. Most of the area caters towards the locals and to the students of National Taiwan University which is nearby. If you come here during the day there are many museums in the area if you're interested in visiting those.
At Gongguan Night Market I'll be eating various street food dishes, the portions here are pretty big so I didn't eat that much here. The first thing that I'll be having is a Gua Bao from Lan Jia Gua Bao 藍家割包) These pork baos are delicious and I highly recommend that you get one here. I made a mistake while I was here and only got the lean braised pork bao, but if you point at both meats you can probably tell them that you want half and half. This will let you taste both the braised lean pork with the fatty pork belly.
The next place we'll be heading too is right next to Lan Jia Gua Bao which is Chen San Ding 陳三鼎黑糖青蛙撞奶 This place is very well known for the milk brown sugar boba here.. They have been in business for a very long time and after doing a bit of research they sell brown sugar boba here that consist of fresh taiwanese milk and brown sugar boba. I refer to it as milk tea a few times in the video, but that's incorrect just ignore the tea part there is no tea in it. What's funny is that in the U.S. right now there is a craze for brown sugar boba and I accidentally had this two years ago. This place ruined boba for me, probably the best boba that I have ever had the texture was excellent, very soft and yet chewy and elastic. No place in Illinois makes good boba compared to this place especially at 40 NTD. I've also had Tiger Sugar in NYC and that place is good as well however the price and line for it can be pretty crazy.
The Taipei Walker, which I'll refer to as the Taiwanese Hotdog, is pretty good, however you can get this pretty much at any Night Market although each vendor makes it slightly different.
Kuang-ji Noodles 匡記涼麵 was really good. I would come back here to eat their other noodle dishes, although this is the first time that I've ever had this dish. I'm not sure what it was called, but they make a variety of cold noodle and hot noodle dishes here. The one that I got had nice elastic and soft noodles and I really enjoyed the pickled vegetables, vinegar sauce, and the pork wontons which were massive. The portions are pretty large and I felt pretty refreshed after eating this dish.
The last place that I'll be heading too is Ice Monster. There's few locations in Taipei and as the weather gets warm I can see this place being extremely busy. They have a huge extensive menu of desserts from soups, taiwanese shaved ice, sorbet, and more! Taiwanese shaved ice is a bit different from bingsoo and kakigori, the ice is usually flavored and shaved into many sheets and stacked on top of each other. The texture is a bit different and is enjoyable. The portion is pretty big here, my oolong tea shaved ice really tasted like a strong oolong tea. If you prefer sweeter flavors check out their fruit flavors instead.
Taipei has been great, there's tons of things to do and I definitely hope to come back one day to explore the other areas.
