Australia0811 Travels - Sigiriya - The Fortress Rock - Sri Lanka
Sigiriya (Lion Rock, Sinhalese - සීගිරිය, pronounced see-gee-REE-yah) is located in the central Matale District of the Central Province, Sri Lanka in an area dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 meters high.
Acccording to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa the site was selected by King Kasyapa (477 -- 495 AD) for his new capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes.
On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure —Sīhāgiri, the Lion Rock. The capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until 14th century.
The Rock Face Frescoes - John Still in 1907 suggested, The whole face of the hill appears to have been a gigantic picture gallery... the largest picture in the world perhaps.[11] The paintings would have covered most of the western face of the rock, covering an area 140 metres long and 40 metres high. There are references in the graffiti to 500 ladies in these paintings. The frescoes, depicting beautiful female figures in graceful contour or colour, point to the direction of the Kandy temple, sacred to the Sinhalese.

Yala National Park - Pride of Sri Lanka
Located 260 km South East of Colombo, Yala is the most popular of the many National Parks of the country. Though the official website of Yala claims that the density of leopards here is the highest in the world, it is not at all easy to sight one. If you are lucky enough, you will be able to see a leopard. There are Sloth Bears also in this park, but we could not see even one during our four full days' safari in the park

We’re staying in Sri Lanka while in Transit to Mumbai, India.
Of course we wanted to experience the historic GALLE FACE HOTEL in Colombo est 1864 which has a beautiful colonial style. It’s been well maintained and renovated and keeps that colonial charm. The food and staff top notch and the location couldn’t be better on the seaside.

10 Best Places to Visit in Sri Lanka - Travel Video
Sri Lanka may be a small island in the Indian Ocean but that’s the only thing small about it. The country, formerly known as Ceylon, boasts an ancient civilization, golden sandy beaches with their swaying coconut palms, mountains, and tea plantations. While visiting the island, you’ll see colonial architecture from the days when the Portuguese, Dutch and English ruled. You’ll also see lots of elephants, some of which participate in local festivals and, if you’re lucky, perhaps a leopard or two at a wildlife sanctuary. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Sri Lanka:
Sri Lanka Full Day 3 - Sigiriya
Spectacular Sigiriya. Did not get to climb up the rock (have only some photos), but that gave me time to see things others probably miss. The place is amazing, peaceful, and spiritual. Lovely visit.

In the last part of our video we discover the beautiful Royal Botanic Garden in Kandy, and we will finish our day with a street food hunt around Kandy train station.

Climbed the Lion Rock! | Sri Lanka with Sandra Part 2
I'm here with part 2 of my Sri Lanka vlogs! I definitely didn't have your average Christmas Day this year, as I woke up before the sunrise to climb Sigiriya, also known as The Lion Rock. Apart from that, I also visited the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a couple of temples (Dambulla Cave Temple & Temple of the Tooth/Sri Dalada Maligawa), the garden of spices called Luck Grove, Geragama Tea Factory, the place where they make gemstone jewelry, and saw a traditional dance show in Kandy.
