Little Colorado River Gorge Navajo Tribal Park, Arizona, United States.
The Little Colorado River Gorge is a tributary to the Colorado River and this location is a worthwhile stopover on AZ-64 while on the way to the Grand Canyon from Cameron, AZ.
Even if you have just been to the Grand Canyon, this is a worthwhile stopover as the cliffs are sheer and the views worth admission.
Although not very clear from the video, there are two stopping places and as I was coming from the Grand Canyon, the first pullover is free while the second nearer to Cameron requires a payment (I mention this in the video) but there are part of the same site several miles apart.
GPS for stopovers:
1. Nearest Cameron: 35°55'8.21N, 111°33'50.60W
2. Nearest to Grand Canyon: 35°56'12.62N, 111°39'4.76W
Little Colorado River Cameron Arizona
Highway 89 crosses the Colorado River and the Little Colorado River in Northern Arizona. The little Colorado makes its own rather deep side canyon to the Grand Canyon shortly downstream from where this video was taken. Cameron is a small town that marks the eastern gateway to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.

AZBDR Arizona Backcountry Discovery Routes - Section 6
Section 6 of the Arizona Backcountry Discovery Route - Cameron to Utah Border
You are about to enter Navajo Nation, one of the neatest sections of the AZBDR. This is a wild, untouched part of our country and while visiting here is welcomed, it is a delicate matter. PLEASE respect the land and it's people. Stay on posted roads and keep speeds down. There are a few great opportunities to look down into both the Little Colorado River Canyon and the Grand Canyon itself. The roads are wide and nicely graded with no technical spots or difficult terrain to speak of but keep your eyes open for wild horses and packs of dogs around the modest homes that dot the countryside. Once you leave Navajo Nation you'll have a short slog on pavement before finishing your expedition on 13 miles of fun, mellow dirt roads through Vermillion Cliffs National Monument. Congrats! You've completed the AZBDR and have experienced the best landscapes and riding in Arizona.
***Note on riding through Navajo Nation****
You MUST obtain a pass to ride and camp in Navajo Nation. Camping and riding permits are $5 each per person ( cash only). They can be purchased at the small round building at the junction of Hwy 64 and 89 in Cameron. Don't plan on entering these lands after dark after the permit office is closed.

Cameron Suspension Bridge
Built in 1911 near Cameron, this is the oldest suspension bridge in Arizona and has been a registered historic site since 1986. It once served as part of the route for US 89 until that traffic was re-routed to another bridge in 1959. Unfortunately, it is now closed to any kind of traffic since it carries a natural gas pipeline.

Little Colorado River Gorge
This is a narrated video shot in 4K from an Inspire 1 Pro drone. The location is along the Little Colorado river and the canyon/gorge that formed along it. At this point the rim is about 1000 feet above the water/bottom but as the river winds towards the confluence with the Colorado river inside the park the rim to bottom height climbs to over 3000 feet.
One of the challenges of shooting video of a canyon like this is that it's difficult to see to the bottom given the steep sides of the canyon. I needed to fly quite close to the edge but at no time did I go beyond it though there are a couple points in the video where the camera angle makes it look like I did.
Along this stretch of the river/canyon are a number of Native American booths selling there wares. I try to find something to buy whenever I'm at a place like this as I try to assist them when I can. But, for purposes of flying the drone I had to chose a location with few/no people so I wound up moving to a location with nobody around.
This video was captured on the second day of an eight day trip I took in April 2016 through southern Utah and northern Arizona. I shot video in seven locations in all and have now edited and uploaded all the videos from that trip.
Please check out some of my other videos from this area including drone videos in 4K of Mexican Hat, the Valley of the Gods, and the Moki Dugway. And feel free to check out my other videos on my channel. See links...

Cameron Trading Post.wmv
Along the Colorado River, on the Navajo Indian Reservation, lies the Cameron Trading Post built in 1916. This historic seeting includes a swayback suspension bridge built above the Little Colorado River in 1911. Trading post literature states, You are visiting in one of the last authentic trading posts in the Southwest. On a hot August afternoon - as the river raced its course and the thermal winds swelled - the post provided a tranquil and welcome abode for me.
