Mały Rynek - Kraków
Just a short walk from the main market square of. Krakow´s Rynek Glowny, separated by the Church of St. Mary and the Church of St Barbara, you will find the Little Market, Maly Rynek. Situated a block from the main centre, the Little Market is considered one of the most quaint and picturesque places to visit during your stay in Krakow. The former butcher's and produce market has served little function since 1903 when the stalls were removed in favour of tram lines. Today, even they have disappeared leaving just the tenements buildings as a sense of history. But the Maly Rynek has much deeper historical roots than its remains suggest as it was here that persistent fights between the Catholics and the Protestants that lived on opposite sides of the market square broke out in the 17th Century, thus these grounds have witnessed much bloodshed.

Kraków In Your Pocket - Rynek Główny
Kraków's main market square (Rynek Główny) serves as the city's gravitational centre, and is the natural start and finish point for any tour of the city. Originally designed in 1257 - the year Kraków was awarded its charter the grid-like layout of the Old Town and its central square has changed little in the years that have followed. Measuring 200 metres square, the Rynek ranks as one of the largest medieval squares in Europe, and is surrounded by elegant townhouses, all with their own unique names, histories and curiosities. Through the centuries it was in Kraków's Rynek that homages to the king were sworn and public executions held. Most famously it was here that Tadeusz Kościuszko roused the locals to revolt against foreign rule in 1794. The Rynek has always been the natural stage for public celebrations, with everything from Dragon parades to Christmas crib competitions taking place. Not all the events have had been happy affairs however, and back in the 17th century King Jan Sobieski III was privy to a firework display which ended in bloodshed when some of the explosives were accidentally fired into the crowd. Some mistake. More recently the market square was subjected to a Nazi rally under German occupation which was attended by Der Führer himself and celebrated the squares name change from Rynek Główny to Adolf Hitler Platz. Fortunately the moniker didnt last long and today the Rynek occupies itself by hosting the yearly Christmas and Easter markets, as well as numerous festivals and outdoor concerts.

20 Things to do in Kraków, Poland Travel Guide video transcript:
We kicked off this trip to Poland with a visit to Krakow, a city people have been telling us to visit for years and now we know why. Krakow in the summertime was wonderful! We spent our time enjoying castle views from the river side, exploring neighbourhoods covered in street art, eating some of the best pierogie of our lives, and also discovering what we think may be the best ice cream. The following is our travel guide to some of the best things to do in Krakow!
Wawel Castle is Krakow's crowning jewel, and for centuries it was the residence of the kings of Poland. You can see a mix of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque architecture all in one place.
While in the city, we also had to walk the Royal Route, which was once the historic coronation path of Polish kings.
After visiting the basilica, we spent a bit of time walking the Main Square, which just so happens to be Europe's largest medieval town square.
And that’s it for our visit to Krakow! We hope this video gave you a few ideas of things to do around the city. If you have any other places to add to this list or any tips for fellow travellers visiting Krakow feel free to share those.
This is part of our Travel in Poland video series showcasing Polish food, Polish culture, Polish cuisine while visiting Kraków Polska.

Wroclaw Christmas Market:
Tickets for Panorama Racławicka:
I love art and culture and, especially when I travel, it's something I always want to see and soak up. I found lots of it in Wroclaw, Poland and discovered it was even named the European Capital of Culture in 2016. It's easy to see why when you're walking around because there's beauty, art, and history all around you. Ground zero for any trip to Wroclaw is the Rynek or Market Square in the centre of town. The square dates back to the thirteenth century and is lined with colourful buildings. In the Rynek, and all around the city, you'll notice little dwarves no more than a foot high. There are more than four hundred of them around Wroclaw and they represent more than just charming public art. Dwarves were the symbol of the Orange Alternative, an anti-Soviet movement that began in Wroclaw to protest Poland's Communist regime. In protest, Communist propaganda was defaced with images of dwarves to show how absurd it all was and to encourage people not to be afraid. Now you'll see dwarves all over the city in various forms including sculptures and other street art like graffiti.
One of my favourite art works in Wroclaw is an installation called Transition found on two opposing street corners. It symbolizes the period of martial law in Poland from 1981 to 1983. You see seven human figures descending into the sidewalk and disappearing which represents how martial law drove people underground in fear. On the other side of the street, seven figures reemerge which symbolizes how people came out of hiding when that oppressive period ended in 1983. It really made an impression on me.
The crown jewel of Wroclaw's art scene is the Panorama Racławicka, a 360 degree painting that depicts a battle for Polish independence in 1794. It's 15 metres high and 114 metres around which really brings the history to life in a way only art can.
If you're in the mood for love then head to Tumski Bridge also known as Lovers Bridge. It's a popular spot for couples who leave a lock to symbolize their love and throw the key in the river. The bridge leads to Cathedral Island which is the oldest part of Wroclaw and a very pretty area to walk around. Keep an eye out for the city's lamplighter - yes, an actual lamplighter! - who walks the cobblestone streets each day at dusk to light the gas lanterns. I've never seen that before and it made me feel like I was travelling back in time. Absolutely charming.
The Market Hall is nearby Cathedral Island and there you can get some food or souvenirs or shop with locals for fresh groceries. My favourite part there are the giant concrete arches that feel very imposing. Overall I loved visiting Wroclaw and feel like it might be the most artistic city in Poland.

Christmas Market in Wrocław, Poland
CHRISTMAS MARKET IN WROCŁAW, POLAND - The Christmas Market in Wrocław, Poland was one of my favourites! It stretched out around the town square in all directions and had the atmosphere of a charming Christmas carnival. I even met Santa at this Polish Christmas Market who led me to the big Christmas tree for the perfect photo.
There were different rides and we chose one where you could fly in one of Santa’s sleighs pulled by reindeer. It gave a great view of the surrounding market and delighted us far more than I imagined it would!
I came across something I’ve never seen at a Christmas Market before: booths of animatronic-type puppets telling famous fairytales. The puppets move around while a narrator recites the beloved stories. There was Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Hansel and Gretel. It was fun to see lots of people - not just kids - gathered around to enjoy. I found it quite charming, which complemented the whole feel of the Wrocław market.
We found a booth selling miniature-sized Polish donuts (pączki) which we wanted to try. They are deep fried with sauce and powdered sugar on top. Not the easiest thing to eat but at least the powdered sugar looked like snow!
I also learned about some Polish Christmas traditions that I absolutely love. They all revolve around Christmas dinner which, in Poland, takes places on December 24th. On Christmas Eve, they don’t start eating until the first star appears in the night sky. How beautiful is that?! Someone - usually a child - is dispatched to the window and when they spot the first star they return to let everyone know it’s time to eat. The meal consists of twelve courses of twelve different dishes. This symbolizes either the Twelve Apostles or the months of the year - nobody seems quite sure. Every household sets an extra place at the table in case someone knocks on the door or turns up at the last minute needing a place to eat. This is meant to signify welcoming and inclusivity. I think it’s a lovely idea and symbolic of what Christmas is all about.
We ended the night by riding the Polar Express train. This market was awesome and I enjoyed it so much! What did you think of it?

MY VLOGMAS 2017 SERIES
This December I’m doing Vlogmas on my channel! Vlogmas is usually where you daily vlog each day of December leading up to Christmas. I’m doing my own version where I’ll upload new videos three times per week on my regular schedule (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) and each ‘episode’ will be Christmas themed from my travels in Europe! I’ll be exploring Christmas markets - and trying all the special foods - in 6 different countries and learning about unique and sometimes crazy-sounding Christmas traditions. I absolutely love this time of year. I’m looking forward to experiencing all the different ways people celebrate and sharing it with you.

Ave Maria Krakow
Schubert's Ave Maria sung by male soprano Edward Parzych.
I first heard Edward singing in Krakow's main square,
accompanied by a music player in a shopping trolley !
Even in such distracting circumstances, his immense talent was obvious to all who stopped to listen.
Edward was born in Russia into a musically talented family.
He started to sing when he was 38 years old after training a mere two months with countertenor Marcin Ciszewski in Gdansk.
Edward has sung during Masses at St Mary's Bassilica in Krakow and also at St Peter and Pauls Church.
This recording is available along with thirteen others on his Classical Sacred Arias c.d.
