Recumbent Trikes on the Tennessee Riverwalk - Chattanooga
17 recumbent riders from at least 5 different states gathered in Chattanooga to ride the Tennessee Riverwalk, socialize, have lunch and otherwise have a great time. This trail is a beauty following the Tennessee River along with a side spur into the woods where the raised wooden structure makes you glad for full suspension , but also a hoot to ride (rollercoaster).
Greenway Trail
The beautiful Maryville greenway trail is used by runners, cyclist, walkers, families, etc. It is very well maintained and winds through subdivisions and downtown.

My 13th Year Riding to the Recumbent Retreat on the Oregon Coast
I look forward to this ride every year. The Recumbent Retreat is one of the highlights of my summer. I take 2 days to do this ride. The 1st night I camp at Big Eddy County Park in the tiny dot of the town called Pittsburg. The next day is 70 miles and, because of my slow sleep, I need to get an early start. There are a few rest stops along the way with bathrooms and places to refill water bottles but there are no services for food for the first 60 miles. The ride crosses the Nehalem River many times as well as goes through meadows, fields, forests and has a fair amount of climbing including up and over the coastal range. It's a lovely ride and this year I had company with another triker, Brandon Riggs. The ride ends at the Ft Stevens State Park campground where the Recumbent Retreat has been held every September for last 20 years.

Watauga Lake Cottage - Butler, Tennessee
This lake front cottage rental on Watauga Lake, in Eastern Tennessee, offers lodging and accommodations between Boone NC and Bristol TN/VA.
From the cottage rental’s backyard, run down the lawn right into beautiful Watauga Lake, Tennessee, which is clean enough for swimming, sailing, kayaking, canoeing and fishing so it’s the perfect backdrop for your summer mountain vacation. Even in the winter there is lots to do on Watauga Lake including year round fishing for bass, trout, walleye, sunnies and carp.
From mid-June through mid-September, Watauga Lake is warm, refreshing and ready for your water activities. No waves, no salt, no chlorine – just fresh mountain water.
Your own private “resort” describes the Watauga Lake Cottage Rental On Watauga Lake: fish, swim, boat right from your backyard. Then take a hike on a nearby section of the Appalachian Trail, or rent a bike and coast down the famous Virginia Creeper Trail in nearby Damascus, VA. Visit the Butler Tennessee Museum to learn the story of “The town that wouldn’t drown”. If you are here during Old Butler Days the second weekend in August, enjoy small town music, games, food, vendors and even a “train ride” (for the kiddies).
The Watauga Lake Cottage Rental was built by the owner, Vikki Woods. The Cottage Rental is meant to be her retirement cottage once she decides to retire from innkeeping at the Iron Mountain Inn B&B also in Butler TN. So guests will find little touches not normally found in other cottage rentals, such as, a dumb waiter to take luggage and laundry upstairs; fully equipped kitchen a gourmet chef will enjoy; a two person jetted tub and a steam shower; a handicapped bedroom and bath on the first floor; and an open floor plan so everyone visiting can participate in the fun.
The Watauga Lake Cottage Rental will sleep 6 people comfortably in 3 bedrooms each with ensuite bath. There is an alcove at the end of the upstairs hall with a Queen bed which will use the first floor bathroom. Please no more than 8 guests.
N.C. Mayors Visit Rocky Branch Greenway - Mayors in Action
On May 5, 2010, the mayors of Raleigh, Knightdale, Garner and Rolesville gathered on the NC State University campus to sign the National Physical Activity Plan, a pledge to encourage local residents to take up healthy living.
Check out Mayor Williams sportin' those white sneakers, ready to hit the greenway trail. And Mayor Meeker admits to being a Rocky Branch jogger already!
The Rocky Branch Stream Restoration and Greenway Project was the perfect backdrop for the occasion. It is a decades-long project of Barbara Doll, water quality specialist at North Carolina Sea Grant. What was once a degraded, debris-ditch and parking lot has now been restored to its natural state as a gurgling, quiet creek, welcoming wildlife and joggers to its shaded paths.
Check out photos from the event here:

2019 Recumbent Retreat Sunset Ride
The first ride of the 2019 Recumbent Retreat to see the Peter Iredale shipwreck at sunset. The Recumbent Retreat is an annual event held the weekend after Labor Day. We always take over 2 full loops in the Ft. Stevens State Park campground on the gorgeous Oregon coast. There are typically over 100 recumbent riders who attend. We had 35 trikes on this ride.
Music: Grizzly Caterpillar, Alan Gogoll
This channel is about all things trikes and travel. I have been riding a recumbent trike since 2005 and have been touring since 2007 all over the world. I have toured on 6 continents, in over 20 countries and cycled more than 50,000 miles.
On this channel I talk about what gear works and doesn't work and offer tips and tutorials. Mostly, I produce short travelogue type videos of my tours as I go. I travel with a Panasonic G95 mirrorless camera with 2 lenses, GoPro, Insta360 One X, Mavic 2 Zoom drone, and, of course, a mobile phone. Thanks for subscribing and following along!
