Railway Wood Ieper
This video looks at Railway Wood, about 2km east of Ieper, Belgium.
On the site sits the 177th Tunnelling Co Memorial and the smallest CWGC site in the country.
Beside it is a memorial to the members of the Liverpool Scottish, partly constructed with the keystone from the Regiment's former office in England.
The video ends with a very brief look in the mine crater littered forest beside the memorials (I seem a bit rushed because I think I was trespassing on private land!).
Please take a look at Video History Today , the first web site to offer unique collections of re-usable original video clips designed for teachers and students.
The idea behind Video History Today is to give schools the raw material to make mini-documentaries and video essays on historical subjects.
Initial packages focus on World War I (Somme and Ieper areas), The Holocaust, the American Civil War and D-Day & Normandy 1944.
