???? Hiking to Lonesome Lake Hut in the White Mountains of New Hampshire
Lonesome Lake Trail and hut are places we like to re-visit! You'd think we'd keep going up to the Kinsman peaks; but we have so much fun taking it easy at the lake. This time we came at the end of the off-season, just as Spring was turning to Summer. This video is about our experience. The Lonesome Lake trail has steep parts and rocks; but it is known as easy because it is only 1.5 miles long.

Mount Moosilauke, Hiking a 4,000 Footer in the Winter in New Hampshire
Welcome back everyone to another adventure filled video! This one is getting a bit more wild than usual because we hiked a dangerous 4,000 footer, Mount Moosilauke, in WINTER!
Mount Moosilauke is the south-westernmost 4,000 footer in the White Mountains, New Hampshire. It is the 10th highest mountain in New Hampshire clocking in at 4,802 ft.
We hiked up the Beaver Brook trail which also overlapped the Appalachian Trail. This trail is extremely steep and with the thick coating of ice covering the trail and the fresh powder blanketing on top of it, it made for a treacherous hike. There were many moments where I was very scared and we slipped pretty far down the trail when coming back down the mountain.
Luckily, we came prepared with a lot of gear that we would not have been able to complete the hike without. Most important being many many warm layers, snowshoes, and microspikes.
It is important to layer up not only because you are hiking in the winter but the weather in the White Mountains can change dramatically in a blink of an eye. You should be prepared for wind, ice, rain, snow, and heat.
Refer to my video, What I Wear On A Winter Day Hike, for more information on this.
We also found that bringing snowshoes was incredibly helpful for navigating on the deep powder that coated parts of the trail. Now, they were not helpful for the entire hike so this is a gear that you can live without.
Refer to my video, Snowshoeing In Miller State Park, New Hampshire, for more information on this.
Lastly, and most importantly, we absolutely would not have made it up the mountain without our microspikes. You can buy many variation of these at any outdoor store. They come in small, running gauged spikes to macro-mountaineering gauged spikes.
You can buy the version we have here:
Despite the intensity of this hike, we had an absolute blast and an adventure. Would you try winter hiking? Have you hiked Mount Moosilauke before? Let me know in the comments below!

Backpacking The White Mountains, NH (Lonesome lake trail) 2017
We started on the Lonesome lake trail till we reached the lake. Then from there we went up the Fishin Jimmy trail till we arrived at the Kinsman pond. Here we went up the trail for Kinsman mountain. We attempted to set up a shelter to keep us out of the rain but it was pouring all day and were forced us down the mountain. After packing up we went down to the shelter by the pond for some cover and rest from rain. Then headed down the Kinsman pond trail to the Cascade Brook trail till we hit Lonesome Lake again to complete the loop. We both had over packed bags. Thinking the rain would die out we were mistaken and hung it up. WEEKEND WARRIORS. Next time! More vids to come and will improve with time. LeBlancUSA.

Description: Lonesome Lake is a 12.2-acre water body located in Franconia Notch in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, south of Cannon Mountain. The lake is reachable by hiking trails from the Franconia Notch Parkway and features an Appalachian Mountain Club hut on its southwest shore. The lake lies in the Merrimack River watershed. Its outlet, Cascade Brook, flows south over ledges and waterfalls to the Pemigewasset River near The Basin in Franconia Notch. The Pemigewasset in turn flows south to the Merrimack River, which reaches the Atlantic Ocean at Newburyport, Massachusetts. Lonesome Lake is part of Franconia Notch State Park. The Appalachian Trail passes the lake at its outlet. Additional hiking trails travel north to Cannon Mountain. The lake is classified as a coldwater fishery and contains brook trout.
