Brahma Temple - Pushkar - Ajmer - Rajasthan - India - only Brahma temple in the world
Jagatpita Brahma Mandir is a Hindu temple situated at Pushkar in the Indian state of Rajasthan, close to the sacred Pushkar Lake to which its legend has an indelible link. The temple is one of very few existing temples dedicated to the Hindu creator-god Brahma in India and remains the most prominent among them.
Although the present temple structure dates to the 14th century, the temple is believed to be 2000 years old. The temple is mainly built of marble and stone stabs. It has a distinct red pinnacle (shikhara) and a hamsa bird motif. The temple sanctum sanctorum holds the central images of Brahma and his second consort Gayatri. The temple is governed by the Sanyasi (ascetic) sect priesthood.[2] On Kartik Poornima, a festival dedicated to Brahma is held when large number of pilgrims visit the temple, after bathing in the sacred lake.

The name Shanmukha means 'six faces'. Hence, the temple tower is adorned by the six faces of Shanmukha. This beautiful temple was designed by Dr. R. Arunachalam and no doubt it is one of the exotic temples in Bangalore.
Shrungagiri hill is around 240 ft and the Shanmukha temple is built on top of it. The shrine is 123 ft and the temple tower (gopura) is about 62ft. While the sanctum reflects the traditional architecture, the extra design has a modern touch!

Presiding Deity Shanmukha
The speciality of this temple is its Gopura and the crystal dome like structure. The elegant lighting provided for this crystal structure gives a grand look during the evening times. Morever, this six faces of Shanmukha looks mesmerizing from the surrounding areas.
Another speciality of this structure is that of the sensors that attract the sun-rays. These sensors track the sun-rays from morning till evening and make sure they fall on the idol of Shanmukha at all times. So, the faces of Shanmukha is bathed in sun during the day time.
There are steps leading to the main shrine and around the main deity you would also get to see a museum dedicated to Lord Ganapati in his various forms, sizes and shapes. It is a must see when you visit the temple. Do not miss the prasadam at the temple - the yummy Pongal.

The temple at Pushkar may well be the most famous one in the world dedicated to Brahma but it certainly isn’t the only one. It is however the oldest temple dedicated to Brahma.
Legend has it that Brahma, when compared to the other gods was a lot more lenient and would bless his devotees whole-heartedly. There were several instances when he’s bless devotees
with boons without considering the repercussions of his blessings. He is said to have blessed demons from Hiranyakashipu and Mahishasur to Ravana, causing them to torment people and
several gods too. Due to this Vishu and Shiva would have to take control of situations and kill the demons with their various avataras. Since Brahma continued to be lenient, people
stopped worshiping him and instead offered prayers to Vishnu and Shiva.Another legend states that Brahma created a lady deity, Shatarupa, one with a hundred forms. As soon as she
was created, Brahma was infatuated by her and followed her everywhere in order to pursue her. However, she tried avoiding him for as long as possible. But Brahma was adamant
enough to give himself five heads. One in each direction north, south, east and west and the fifth head above the others. Since Shatarupa was considered to be be Brahma’s daughter,
Shiva cut off Brahma’s fifth head as an incestuous relationship was not considered to be appropriate. Since then, Brahma has is believed to be the ignored one among the trimuthi,
Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. However, over time, Brahma is said to have sought repentance and forgiveness and several other temples were built and established to worship the creator,
Brahma. Here are few of the most revered Brahma temples in India.

PUSHKAR - Centre of Hindu Religion
Pushkar lies on the shore of Pushkar Lake. It has five principle temples, many smaller temples and 52 ghats where pilgrims decend to the lake to bathe in the sacred waters. One of the primary temples is the 14th century temple dedicated to Brahma, the Hindu god of creation. Very few temples to Lord Brahma exist anywhere in the world[1], so Lord Brahma's temple in Pushkar is quite rare.

Brahma Temple, Pushkar, Rajasthan - sathya's visit
Pushkar : is a town in the Ajmer district in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is situated 14 km (8.7 mi) northwest ofAjmer at an average elevation of 510 m (1,670 ft) and is one of the five sacred dhams (pilgrimage site) for devout Hindus.
Places to see in pushkar:
Pushkar has many temples. Most of the temples are not very old because many temples were destroyed during Muslim conquests in the area.[1]Subsequently, the destroyed temples were rebuilt. The most famous among all is the 1.Jagat Pitta Shri Brahma temple, built during the 14th century CE. 2. Savitri temple, 3.Varaha temple, 4. Apteshwar Mahadev temple, 5.The Sri Sawai Bhoj Temple, 6.Baba the Cosmic Barber, 7.Temple of Rangji, 8. Man Mahal, 9.Gurudwara Singh Sabha. The Pushkar lake has 52 ghats where pilgrims descend to the lake to bathe in the sacred waters.
1. Jagat Pitta Shri Brahma temple -- The most important temple in Pushkar is the Temple of Lord Brahma, one of the holy trinity of Hinduism. The temple enshrines a life-size idol of Lord Brahma. The word 'Pushkar' means lotus flower, which is said to be the seat of Brahma, one of the Hindu holy trinity, who is worshipped as the creator of this world. The legend has it that the demon Vajra Nabha killed Brahma's children, he in turn struck him with his weapon, a lotus flower. Vajra Nabha died with the impact, and the petals of the lotus fell at three places. One of them is Pushkar, where it gave birth to a lake. Brahma is supposed to have performed sacrifice at this lake on Kartik Purnima (the full moon day of the Kartik month (generally in the month of November)), hallowing the place.
Though Brahma is considered to be the creator of the world, Pushkar is the only temple of this important deity in the whole world. This is also considered as Adi Teerth or Teertharaj meaning ancient holy place or the most important of holy places respectively.
Temple worshiping time: The temple is open for worship between 6:30 am and 8:30 pm during winter and 6:00 am to 9:00 pm during summer, with an interval in afternoon between 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm when the temple is closed.[1][2] Three aratis are held in the temple: Sandhya arati in the evening about 40 minutes after sunset, Ratri Shayan arati (night-sleep arati) about 5 hours past sunset and Mangala arati in the morning, about 2 hours before sunrise.
2. Pushkar Lake -- The prime attraction of Pushkar is the Pushkar Lake which is considered sacred like the Mansarovar Lake in Tibet. Pushkar has become a place of Hindu pilgrimage because of this holy lake. Legend has it that this lake was consecrated to Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe when a lotus dropped from his hand into the vale and a lake emerged in that place.
3. Savitri Temple- This temple that is located at the top of the Ratnagiri Hill is dedicated to Savitri, the wife of Lord Brahma. The temple houses a statue of Goddess Savitri.
4. Old Pushkar- Old Pushkar lake is rebuilt and is located around 5 km from Pushkar lake. According to the ancient texts, Old Pushkar has equal cultural and religious significance for the pilgrims.
5. Bhandarej, Bhangarh and Fort Madhopur: A visit to Bhandarej, Bhangarh and Fort Madhopur from Jaipur via Dausa Town by an Indica or Ambassador taxi would cost about Rs 2,000. Expect rates to go up considerably in the high season.
6. Ajmer: is the nearest tourist attraction that lies outside the city boundaries of Pushkar.
7. Kishangarh: Located 27 kilometres away from Ajmer, there is Kishangarh, famous for its miniature paintings, more popularly known as Bani Thani.
Pushkar Fair: Every year thousands of domestic and international tourists come to be a part of this amazing Pushkar Fair. This fair is organized in 07 Nov To 17 Nov 2013 . Tourists come to take a holy dip in the pushkar lake at the time of karthik purnima, which is basically a full moon day.
