Historic Techniques / Contemporary Voices: Arc:Hive and A Moment (Un)Bound
“Archivists Ella and Lucy have a knack for preserving paper ephemera. While they are teaching Tom to sort this from that, mysterious book sprites throw a monkey wrench into the World Archive's Ephemerarium, and expose family secrets. Will they each find what they need to find? Or will they all get stuck in the past?”
Interdisciplinary artist Lessa Bouchard presents about the process of creating the ensemble written play A Moment (Un)Bound. This play explores the tension between the analog and digital, our desire to remember, to preserve, share and protect the artifacts of the past and the need to experience things firsthand, for ourselves, in the present.
The whimsical masks, text and themes are inspired by the notes and clippings left behind in the books donated to the Friends of the Palo Alto Library, by exploring the use and reaction to Google Glass technology, and Lessa’s “Offline,” an installation of hanging bookshelves built to explore Robert Darnton’s “instability of texts.” Other past work by Lessa includes “Recognition,” an installation including a series of everyday video portraits, a sound collage of 2012 Los Altos and a live feed of downtown Main Street, featured in the May 2012 exhibit Faces of Los Altos at the Los Altos History Museum.
Lessa's responding guests are Deborah Eliezer and Janette Herceg, Deborah is from foolFURY Company and the Company's Co- Artistic Director. Janette is the Volunteer and Sales Coordinator for the Friends of the Palo Alto Library.
