The Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust (LAMOTH) is a museum in Pan Pacific Park, within the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, California
It is dedicated to the remembrance and preservation of the history, stories, victims, and tragic events of the Holocaust during World War II. Founded in 1961, the museum is purported to be the oldest museum of its kind in the United States.
LAMOTH is always free for visitors and students, because the founding survivors insisted that no one ever be turned away from learning about the Holocaust.
In 1961, a group of survivors at Hollywood High School taking English as a second language classes found one another and shared their experiences. They discovered that each of them had a photograph, concentration camp uniform, or other precious primary source object from the Holocaust era. They decided that these artifacts needed a permanent home where they could be displayed safely and in perpetuity. They also wanted a place to memorialize their dead and help to educate the world so that no one would ever forget. Some of these founding survivors remain active on the LAMOTH Board of Directors today.

The Museum is closed on Saturdays.
The rest of the days including Sundays you can visit from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The time to Hear and Meet a Holocaust Survivor vary every day and it is displayed at the entrance of the Museum, so make sure to check the info as soon as you go in.

2014 Recipient | Institute Honor Awards for Architecture
The Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust is located within the Pan Pacific Park, adjacent to the Los Angeles Holocaust Memorial. In such a context, the project had to balance spatial requirements with the introduction of a significant new structure into the existing landscape an urban public park.
To integrate the building into the open context, the structure was submerged. This strategy allowed the park’s landscape to continue over the museum’s roof, with existing pathways morphing to connect park users and museum visitors.

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Presents ‘2019 Los Angeles Dinner: What You Do Matters’
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s “2019 Los Angeles Dinner: What You Do Matters” on Wednesday, March 6 honored Sylvie and Mark Deutsch, and Linda and Tony Rubin, with its National Leadership Award for their remarkable contributions to preserving the history of the Holocaust. The Museum also honored all Holocaust survivors with a special presentation of the Elie Wiesel Award.
The Elie Wiesel Award is the Museum's highest honor and was presented to all Holocaust survivors for their courage and resilience and for inspiring the global movement for Holocaust remembrance and education, which the Museum leads today. The Elie Wiesel Award, named for the Museum’s founding chairman, recognizes prominent individuals and organizations whose actions have advanced the Museum’s vision of a world where people confront hatred, prevent genocide and promote human dignity.

Museum 20th Anniversary Los Angeles Tour Stop Highlights
On February 17, the Museum hosted a 20th anniversary event in Los Angeles. Over 1600 people were in attendance. Those in attendance were able to learn about the Museum's collections and programs. The day's highlight was a ceremony during which survivors and liberators were recognized and the Museum and younger people in attendance pledged to make sure that the Holocaust is remembered by future generations.

A Walk Through The Museum of Tolerance, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles
The original museum in Los Angeles, California opened in 1993, built at a cost of $50 million by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, named after Simon Wiesenthal, Holocaust survivor. The museum receives 350,000 visitors annually, about a third of which are school-age children. The museum's most talked-about exhibit is The Holocaust Section, where visitors are divided into groups to take their own place in some of the events of World War II. These experiences are then discussed afterwards. The museum also features testimonies of Holocaust survivors, often from live volunteers who tell their stories and answer questions. People also get cards with pictures of Jewish children on them and at the end of the museum trip, it is revealed whether the child on the card survived or died in the Holocaust.

In addition, the museum features a Tolerancenter that discusses issues of prejudice in everyday life, a Multimedia Learning Center, Finding Our Families – Finding Ourselves, a collection of archives and documents, various temporary exhibits such as Los Angeles visual artist Bill Cormalis Jr's A Game In The B Leagues, which documents through paintings, the Civil Rights movement during the segregation of colored people in Major League Baseball, and an Arts and Lectures Program.
