Russia: Elk roam free in Moscow neighbourhood
Eating bark from trees may not be everyone's cup of tea, but elk strolling around northern Moscow have been doing exactly that. Local urbanites have been taken by surprise as these herbivore animals, who consume nearly 10,000 calories a day in plants and fruits, have joined their community.
The Eurasian elk, known as moose in North America, are often fond of river bank areas, making dwellers of the town even more stunned at their new city neighbours. As the largest species in the deer family, elk are not known to be hostile to humans, yet they are also unpredictable in behaviour and prefer to be left with plenty of space to roam.
With this family of elk from Losiny Ostrov National Park making frequent visits to the neighbourhood, the snow is thought to be the cause of their migration.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding

Losiny Ostrov ( Elk Island)has survived!
As a result of the hard work and support of many people, one huge conservation national park still exists within the city of Moscow. It is called ‘Elk Island’ (Losiny Ostrov), as elks live there in their natural habitat, along with squirrels and peckers. The park seems endless, and is regarded by many as the biggest conservation park in Europe; it is certainly a secluded and leafy one. With more than 50 species of animals, and 170 types of birds inhabiting the park, nature really thrives here. For more news
