First Time in Ancona, Italy: When we set foot in this Italian town for the first time!
Set picturesquely above the Adriatic Sea, Ancona has only recently gained popularity among tourists. Most of them arrive by ferry from Croatia or Greece, or by cruise ship on a shore excursion heading for Loreto or other nearby attractions. But there are several interesting things to see in Ancona, and as we begin our adventure for the first time in this Italian port city we have begun to discover the pleasures of its spacious squares, churches, and historic sights that surround it. Ancona is the capital of the Marches region and has been an important trade center since Roman times, when the Emperors Caesar and Trajan fortified and developed it into a naval base.

The wild beach of Marche: Mezzavalle - Monte Conero - Italy
Mezzavalle is the most beautiful and wild beach of Monte Conero in the Marche region in the province of Ancona. The beach is very quiet and not packed with sun beds and restaurants (only one bar/restaurant) and offers breathtaking views of the slopes of Monte Conero. On this beach you can enjoy a whole day on the beach underneath the slopes of the mountain, which in the early afternoon also provides a shadowed area in which to relax and take a nap. The beautiful sea and the tranquility of the place make the experience unique and unforgettable. Also in the northernmost part of the beach it is possible to have a mud bath with the particular clay rock of the mountain. But bare in mind the path between the car park and the beach is steep and very tiring on your return!
Enjoy!

Pope visits Ancona, talks about how to heal wounds between loved ones
September 12, 2011. (Romereports.com) In a picture perfect setting, right next to the sea port of Ancona, the pope celebrated the closing Mass of the 25th Italian Eucharistic Congress.
The theme was The Eucharist of Everyday Life. People were encouraged to recognize the influence and power of the Eucharist, as a way to improve one's life and also as a way to help others.
Benedict XVI
Those who receive the body of Christ cannot ignore the everyday hardships of others. They must know first hand how to break bread with the hungry, how to share water with the thirsty, clothe the naked, visit the sick and imprisoned.
The key, says the pope, is found in Eucharistic Spirituality. It's a way to leave selfishness behind. It also allows people to embrace the spirit of forgiveness, allowing old wounds to heal between loved ones.
The pope used history as a main example. He said societies that exclude God and only focus on power and riches, are bound to become weaker, fostering false hope along the way.
Benedict XVI
It's hard because often we confuse freedom with the absence of constraints, in the belief that we can make it alone, without God, who is seen as a limit to freedom. This is an illusion which soon turns into disappointment, generating fear and anxiety and leading us, paradoxically, to regret events of the past.
After celebrating Mass with roughly 100,000 people, the pope had lunch with a group of 16 shipbuilders who recently lost their job in Ancona. As a gift, the group gave the pope two cakes. One of them had the official papal seal. The other, the symbol of the Eucharistic Congress.
Do not think, he said, that living together is a guarantee for the future. If you skip the steps of intimacy, which require respect for time and a gradual progression of expressions, you will 'get burned' in love; love needs room for Christ, who is capable of making a human love faithful, happy and indissoluble.
Finally, the Holy Father spoke of the experience of love as having a tension toward God.
True love promises the infinite! Hence, make of this time of preparation for matrimony an itinerary of faith: Rediscover for your life as a couple the centrality of Jesus Christ and of walking with the Church, he said. Mary teaches us that the good of each one depends on listening with docility to the word of the Son. In those who trust in him, the water of daily life is transformed into the wine of a love that makes life good, beautiful and fruitful.

Split Ancona Ferry
The city of Split Harbour is something to behold and I hope that a few minutes I recorded aboard a low cost ferry to Ancona, Italy just before it left will share the experience. No film can match the real experience, the scent of pine trees, the crickets singing and the blue Adriatic shimmering in the distance walled by beautiful islands of Ciovo (Chiovo) , Solta (Sholta) and Brac (Bratch). Note the cathedral which is built in the middle of the Diocletian Palace, on the ruins of ancient Temple of Jupiter. There is also the darkened outline of Marjan, the famous and popular hill, now a national park, which stands sentry over the city and is its symbol. No wonder the Harbour's natural beauty attracted and created history through centuries, was sung about and many a poetry lines written inspired by it.

Italy to Croatia Ferry from Ancona to Split
Come join for a busy travel day as we journey from Italy to Croatia by ferry from Ancona to Split; however, we first start our day off from Venice, Italy where we board a regional train to Bologna and then change to another train bound for Ancona. In Ancona we sort out our tickets and board an overnight ferry to Split.
The ferry ride with Jadrolinija was fantastic as our rooms were just the right size. Basically, we enjoyed a 4 course meal for 16 Euros per person and then drank some wine and ate some chips before going to bed. We woke up at 5am and enjoyed some scenic views of the ferry approaching Split during sunrise before having a quick breakfast for 6 Euros per person. Upon arriving we just ended up checking into our airbnb apartment before going to sleep.
In terms of prices for everything our two train rides came to $33 USD per person and the price of the overnight ferry per person was$111 USD for a private room. We thought overall it was excellent value and if you're looking to visit Croatia from Italy the overnight ferries are a great option to consider.

Italy to Croatia Ferry from Ancona to Split Travel Vlog Video Transcript:
Good morning. And welcome to another travel day. We are leaving Venice today. After a week so yeah we've been rolling our luggage all the way to the station. So we have a busy day. An epic travel day.
We basically have two train rides. Yep. We're first going from Venice to Bologna and then from Bologna to Ancona. And then we have a bit of time to kill and then we're taking an overnight ferry and saying ciao to Italia. Bye Italy. Hello Croatia. Hello Croatia from Split. We have a really busy day ahead of us and we're going to show you the whole journey.
We have such a busy day that we figured yeah we're just going to focus on what we're doing today and tomorrow. Let's go catch a train.
Well welcome to Bologna. Bologna! We've been here a couple of years ago. Mmmhmm. And anyways we arrived on time. We're really lucky because there were quite a few trains that were cancelled today. I'm not sure the reason. Maybe weather related.
We have arrived. We have made it in Ancona. Made it to Ancona. That train went like in beast mode. I swear it caught up on the time it was delayed by. It was so quick. But you know what sucks? What? That was like the worst first class ever. No heating. No heat. No food.
That ends the train journey and now we've got basically go to the ferry terminal and pick up our tickets. Yes. Let's do that.
In terms of the price for the ferry ride from Italy to Croatia it ended up being 111 US dollars per person. There has been a change in regards to breakfast. When we traveled from Dubrovnik to Bari just a few months ago. Complimentary. Breakfast was included in the price if you got a cabin. That is no longer the case. But now it is the equivalent of 6 US dollars. We've got like 3 or 4 little courses so far. Bread, meat, cheese platters and we have omelets to come. Yes. We've all had coffee. It is not bad value and it also means that we can just check in and sleep when we arrive. We don't have to think about breakfast.
We have made it to Split. I remember last time we were here just catching a ferry everyone was asking yeah people were asking us why aren't you doing Split? Why aren't you doing Dubrovnik? And that is because we were waiting for Sam's parents. And now that they are here we're going to check this place out properly. We're also tired so I think we're going to go to bed as soon as we check in so we'll finish this off here. See you soon. Bye.

TRIP REPORT | Volotea Airbus A319 AOI-CTA | V71703
Come along with me on this domestic flight from Ancona to Catania with the low-cost airline Volotea, onboard one of their A319s. The experience with them today was positive: legroom was surprisingly good, the aircraft was clean and the seats did feature seat pockets (though small ones), unlike the seats on most of their 717s. However, while the 717 seats recline, the A319 seats don't. Volotea provide a buy on board service on their flights, and while the selection is decent (not the best however), the prices are somewhat high. Still, I decided to go for a packaged croissant for 1.50€. The crew were friendly and did their job professionally. As a matter of fact we were somewhat lucky we got to our destination as planned; after all today there was a strike in the Italian air traffic during the morning and early afternoon, canceling a large number of flights and delaying numerous. I hope you will enjoy the video!
