7 Most Bizzare Spa Treatments
Spas were a blessing for working those tireless hours and a way to get some time to yourself. When you think of spa treatments you think relaxing, calming but we’ve found some really bizarre spa treatments that would probably send you running for the hills. Here are 7 of the most bizarre spa treatments ever.
At number 7 is Snail Slime Moisturizer
Want to get that glowing facial skin? Well according to some spas the most natural way to get this is snail slime moisturizer. If you’re wondering what that is well, if you’ve seen a snail, you’ve seen this slimy trail that it leaves behind. The discovery of this was went Chilean snail farmers noticed that cuts healed faster and their hands were much softer after the farmers immersed themselves in snail goo day after day. Soon later some companys saw this protect as a way to get more income and now you can get the Elicina snail slime moisturizer sells for a mere $28.99 per tiny jar.
At number 6 is Bull Semen Hair Treatment
What would you do to get thick luscious hair. Well apparently some people are willing to do just about anything even if that involves sperm. Bulls sperm to be exact. A Santa Monica, California salon that specializes in all-natural hair masks offers the bull semen hair treatment to it’s clients. Apparently it is supposed to strengthen the hair shaft promoting hair growth. So are you daring enough to try this treatment?
At number 5 is The Placenta Facial
We’ve all heard of new age treatments with placenta and how it’s properties are very beneficial, well if you cannot get yourself to eat it, there is another use for it as well. A placenta facial. This practice is believed to have started in Singapore with a company that makes a facial treatment made from an actual human placenta. The placenta-based products include things like soap, tonic and even a facial mask. The product claims to help stimulate the brain and clear the skin.
At number 4 is Thai Face Slapping
This is exactly what it sounds. Who knew getting slapped in the face would actually be beneficial. Thai Face Slapping is a real treatment offered by a Bangkok masseuse in her San Francisco massage parlor. The treatment consists of pinching and manipulating the skin and lightly slapping the skin, which is thought to restore a more youthful appearance. Thai Face Slapping is supposed to smooth wrinkles and shrink the pores as well. While it sounds pretty strange it will probably put a whole in your pocket as well, as for a 15 min session can cost you around 350 dollars.
3. Leech Suck Therapy
Some of y’all have probably heard of this one as its got plenty of attention over the years. And thanks to celebrities, the craze to have leeches all over your body has gone up. Leech suck therapy can be used to help detoxify the body. Apparently the leeches crawl on you before biting you and, as they work their magic, they swell up, their little bodies filling with blood.
At number 2 is Cactus Massage
Ouch! Just hearing this makes us cringe. But according to the Four Seasons Resort in Punta Mita, Mexico, a cactus massage can help hydrate the skin and remove toxins. The spa offers a lovely cactus massage made of a warm meringue of cactus, tuna or the bloom of the cactus and tequila. The needles are removed from the cactus so it may not be as bad as it sounds.
And at number one is Beer Soaking Massage
We’ve kept the best one last. Besides helping you forget your terrible day, beer also has other benefits as well. If you’re in the Chez Rebulic make sure you get one very relaxing beer bath. The Czech Republic’s Chodovar family brewery offers a therapeutic beer bath where one soaks in a special vat of beer! The brewery has been offering a 20-minute soak in a specially brewed bathing beer, that is designed to stimulate the skin and internal organs. And what’s better is that you get a complementary mug of the brewery’s rock lager while you relax.
So which one would you want to try? Let us know in the comments below.

Lap of Luxury: Royalty-Quality Spa Treatments
In this week's Lap of Luxury we take spa treatments to a whole new level at L. Raphael, where anti-aging and relaxation come together.
L. Raphael is a Swiss brand founded in Geneva. Its main spa in New York is at The Four Seasons Hotel on 57th Street.
The real hidden gem, however, is just a few blocks away: La Maison L. Raphael on 58th Street, a private 5,000-square-foot spa overlooking Central Park. It often serves just one client at a time.
Founder Ronit Raphael Leitersdorf says La Maison L. Raphael won't take more than three VIP clients per day. Spa treatments there start at $245 and can run as high as $50,000 to $100,000.
A limited number of Global VIPs are invited to join L. Raphael's exclusive new beauty club, which started a year ago. Leitersdorf says they currently have about 75 members, and will cap membership at 100.
For $6,500 to $10,000 a month, those guests have access to a range of treatments from sculpturing and tightening to the Oxy Star and Oxy-Peel, even hair, nails, and makeup.
David Arnold, senior vice president at Robb Report, says these treatments have been developed over a number of years by scientists, and have been proven to work. They also have plenty of testimonials from happy customers who say they're looking younger and more youthful. Among them are celebrity clients Julianne Moore, Tilda Swinton, and Queen Noor of Jordan.
Leitersdorf says two years ago they launched a special treatment with white truffles to help celebrities get rid of pigmentation and prep their skin for the red carpet.
Last year they launched the Beauty Diamond treatment to eliminate small wrinkles and make skin glow.
Thanks to L. Raphael's signature four hands treatments, guests can get a lot done in a short period of time, one of the ultimate luxuries.
Combine the Oxy Star or Oxy Eye treatments with a massage, and be in and out of the spa in 50 minutes.

Rain Spa Signature Treatments - Two Oceans
The heart and soul of our Rain brand is located less than 90 km from the southernmost tip of Africa where the hot tropical Indian Ocean Sea current meets the cold Aghulas Atlantic Ocean current. The meeting of hot and cold creates circulation, and this inspired our Two Oceans sea themed treatment. We make use of hot sea stones interspersed with quick cool bursts of an oceanic jelly to create currents of soothing and coolness, warmth and stimulation - all designed to promote circulation, while rocking the body with wave like pressure movements to promote relaxation. A wonderfully refreshing sea salt body scrub with skin nutrients is included. This treatment brings together the sense of touch, hearing and smell and helps you become fully aware of your body. Sounds of nostalgia evoke memories and calming happy thoughts. It could be compared to taking a two hour seaside holiday.

Most BIZARRE Japanese Spas and Theme Parks
Ahh Japan. If you watched our recent video on strangest japanese street food, you already know that this nation is home to some pretty odd things. Unsurprisingly, then, it is also home to the most surreal theme parks and spas.

5 - Think outside the box…
Japan is also home to its own Disneyland and Universal studios, but if that’s a little too ordinary for your tastes, then do yourself a favour and head to Yoro Park, also referred to as “experience park.” Located in Gifu prefecture, the designers wanted to use the natural beauty of the area in a unique way. It’s a place that has been described as keeping you on edge at all times, and if that’s not what your traveling buddies want, dump them at the nearby golf course, tennis club or kids park. Visitors are told to “expect the unexpected” and you’re led through a labyrinth of attractions that are all rather messed up. You’ll come across the Critical Resemblance House; the Reversible Destiny Office; and the Elliptical Field. The Critical Resemblance House has sets of furniture everywhere, including on the ceiling and under the floor. You’ll find yourself wondering if your milkshake has had something dubious added to it, because it will feel like you’ve stepped into another dimension.
4 - Book a one-way ticket…
Not so much bizarre as opposed to downright impressive! The Ocean Dome is located in Miyazaki in Japan and was the world’s largest indoor waterpark. It featured a heated fresh water “ocean” filled with 13,500 tons of water! The water was surrounded by shops and also featured rainforest and a fake volcano that would erupt hourly. There was a massive retractable roof which was the largest in the world at one stage and tons of beautiful golden beach sand. You’d think this water park would be located miles from any beach, but walk a mere thousand feet, and you’d be sinking your toes into real beach sand and smelling the saltiness of a real ocean.
3 - Gone but not forgotten…
17 July 1955 saw the opening of Disneyland in California, and a few years later, an investor decided to open up his own version of Disneyland in Japan called Nara Dreamland. If you look at maps of each theme park, they’re pretty much identical – including the same jungle cruise, monorail and main street. It went well until 1983 when Tokyo Disneyland finally opened their doors, and Nara started losing visitors rapidly. It was game over when Universal Studios opened quite nearby, and Nara closed down in 2006. The park has been left to nature, and it’s rather a surreal and creepy experience to visit the park now. . . but if you can get there, it’s worth a visit!
2 - Chocolate fixes everything…
Earlier on we mentioned the spa that offers baths in wine, sake, coffee and green tea… and it turns out they also offer something a little more unusual from time to time – and that’s a chocolate experience. Visitors can bath in the sticky sweet substance which allegedly has anti-aging and anti-cellulite properties. Chocolate also contains polyphenols which scientists believe helps combat cancer.
1 - Just dropping in…
Bird-dropping facials are rather popular in Japan, and you have to wonder who thought it would be a great idea to put nightingale poop on their face! Geishas used the dropping to remove their heavy make-up and help to even out their skin. It’s now possible to get this crazy facial in other parts of the world, but you’d have to be very brave to have your face smeared with bird droppings!
