See us at Book a private fossil walk with us (when we are available) and we can show you the Jurassic Coast. The beach East of Lyme Regis is good for fossil hunting - at low tide. Check the tide times before you head off on a fossil walk. Always read and obey the caution signs that are on the way down to the fossil collecting areas on the beach. The cliffs are very dangerous so keep away from them! They are liable to fall suddenly and without warning. This video shows how to find a fossil along the Jurassic Coast using the best tools - your eyes! Many people come to Lyme Regis and say they would like to find a fossil to take home, if not for them then for a friend. You need some sturdy gloves and wellington boots with good grips for a fossil hunting walk along the Jurassic Coast. The ammonites preserved in fools gold are best left soaking in a bucket of fresh water when you get home. This gets the salt out of them. The fresh water should be changed over the three or four days you have them soaking. Then leave the fossils to dry in the air for three to four weeks so they are ready to varnish. I mix clear picture varnish with matt varnish 50/50 to varnish them all over with. Some species of ammonite last better than others. They look good varnished and really come up well. A little bit of Jurassic Magic from the World Heritage Coastline! Read and obey the fossil collecting code of conduct before setting off fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast, this is available online.Always wear safety spectacles and sturdy gloves if you are doing any hammering of the grey layered limestone rocks.

Children did enjoy swimming in the cold sea and fossil hunting. It was a wonderful experience.
And if happens you can't find any fossils on the beach. You can purchase one at Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre.

The Jurassic Coast needs no introduction, really. But I think you’d be hard pressed to find a more stunning shot of the Lulworth Crumple. I go from Kimmeridge Bay to Budleigh Salterton, investigating anoxia from local to global scales with Paul Wignall. I get to meet palaeontologist Simon Penn, who is rapidly becoming the heir to Steve Etches, and his gorgeous fossils. I have a cuppa with Kevan Sheehan, who discovered an incredibly complete giant Pliosaur skull at Osmington Mills (and had it named in honour of all the Kev’s in the world). Hillary Ketchum is my expert guide to that pliosaur. And Eliza Howlett and I have the most trowelblazer-tastic time talking Mary Anning and Eliza Philpott in Lyme Regis. And we have a bit of a Landmark Trust love in. Oh, and underwater robot vehicle REX returns, ably assisted by Adrian Glover and Leigh Marsh.

Lyme Regis is a coastal town in Dorset, England. The site is a part of the Jurassic World Heritage and the town is noted for fossils found on its beaches and in the cliffs. Many of the earliest discoveries of dinosaurs were made in the area around Lyme Regis. Mary Anning found many of them.
Lyme Regis Museum arrange Fossil Walks. The expert Fossil Hunters Paddy Howe and Chris Andrew guided us on the beach. It was a very inspiring day! Thank you!
