The MAXXI is a national museum of contemporary art and architecture in the Flaminio neighborhood of Rome, Italy. The museum is managed by a foundation created by the Italian ministry of cultural heritage. It was designed as a multidisciplinary space by Zaha Hadid and committed to experimentation and innovation in the arts and architecture.
The design of Zaha Hadid was the winner of an international design competition. The site of the new museum was that of a disused military compound, the former Caserma Montello. The competition proposal by Zaha Hadid envisaged the construction of five new structures, only one of which has been actually built.
The art installation and the opening of MAXXI, in 2010, were photographed by Simone Cecchetti, who was chosen from national photography competition. The Royal Institute of British Architect’s (RIBA) 2010 Stirling Prize for architecture has been awarded to MAXXI. In its 15th year, the award is presented annually for the best new European building, built or designed in Britain, judged to have made the greatest contribution to the evolution of British architecture.
The MAXXI consists of two museums: MAXXI art and MAXXI architecture. In addition to the two museums, the MAXXI also features an auditorium, a library and media library specialized in art and architecture, a bookshop, a cafeteria, a bar/restaurant, galleries for temporary exhibition, performances, educational activities. The large public square designed in front of the museum is planned to host art works and live events. The MAXXI has been acclaimed by The Guardian as Hadid's finest built work to date and a masterpiece fit to sit alongside Rome's ancient wonders.

MAXXI - MUSEO NAZIONALE DELLE ARTI DEL XXI SECOLO
My visit to the MAXXI Museum in Rome, among the exciting armosphere of the exhibition 'Cosmic Concert | The Tuning Illusion 'by Tomás Saraceno. 'Gravity | imagine the Universe after Einstein’.
Important contributions of objects on display from the following institutions: Italian Space Agency and National Institute of Nuclear Physics.
Furthermore, the athrospatial installation by Nanda Vigo 'Arch / arcology' (ALCANTARA | MAXXI project).
Another part of the structure hosts the exhibition 'Home Beirut | Sounding the Neighbors.
'The Place to Be' houses the museum's permanent collection, with works by: Sol Lewitt, Carl Andre, Vincenzo Agnetti, Mario Merz, Letizia Battaglia, Elisabetta Catalano, Helmut Newton, William Kentridge, Gae Aulenti, etc.
Inside the museum I was particularly struck by the installation of Micol Assaël entitled 'Sub' (2014). An installation that moves between chemistry, physics that together generate an 'electric spark'.
The MAXXI of Rome remains a model that many Italian museums and in the world should imitate.

Incredibly amazing both inside and out, the juxtaposition of the old and new not to be miased. Inside the sights and sounds regardless of the exhibition, the building is a work of art

Great place for architecture enthusiasts, not only it's a masterpiece by a great starchitect, but the exhibition inside is quite interesting, it's an amazing experience just walking up and down the stairs, and through the exhibition.

Great contemporary museum in Rome. Modern and spacious, you can spend a lot of time exploring. The staff was a bit rude though.
