MGR Samadhi otherwise called it as MGR Memorial is a memorial structure built on the Marina beach in Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. It was built in memory of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. G. Ramachandran. Spread over 8.25 acres, the memorial is located next to the Anna Memorial and has the highest footfall on the seafront. The body of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and MGR's protégé J. Jayalalithaa is also buried at this site near to MGR Samadhi.

Marina Beach is an urban beach in the city of Chennai, India, along the Bay of Bengal, part of the Indian Ocean. The beach runs from near Fort St. George in the north to Besant Nagar in the south, a distance of 13 km (8.1 mi), making it the longest urban beach in the country and the worlds fourth longest.
The Marina is primarily sandy, unlike the short, rocky formations that make up the Juhu Beach in Mumbai. The average width of the beach is 300 m (980 ft) and the width at the widest stretch is 437 m (1,434 ft).
MGR Memorial on Marina Beach, Chennai
MGR memorial resides near to Anna memorial on Marina beach in Chennai. It was built in remembrance of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. G. Ramachandran. This memorial was built early in 90's and reconstructed few times.
There is a statue of MGR displayed at MGR memorial. In the entrance, a bronze pegasus and the party emblem has been displayed in order to show honor to MGR, the former Chief Minister. Also, MGR's tomb placed in the center MGR memorial.
This is one of the best tourist attractions in Chennai as it is located near to the other important spots like Anna Memorial, Marina beach and the lighthouse in Chennai. The crowd will be very high and especially during the weekends, it will be hard for you to find feet on the floor.
M G R Memorial, Chennai
The memorial was built in 1988 and was inaugurated by Janaki Ramachandran, wife of M. G. Ramachandran, in May 1990.[2] The memorial was remodelled and the whole complex was laid with marbles and opened in 1992 by J. Jayalalitha when she became the chief minister of the state of Tamil Nadu the previous year. This structure was designed by Architect Mr. K. Ramachandran, retired chief architect of PWD, Tamil Nadu. Between 1996 and 1998, the mausoleum was again renovated at a cost of about 27.5 million. After the Indian Ocean tsunami struck the seafront in December 2004, the memorial was affected. Repair works were taken up at the cost of about 13.3 million.[3]

In 2012, the memorial was again renovated at a cost of 43 million, including 34 million for remodelling the facade and the wall around the memorial.[4] The renovation included a new entrance sporting AIADMK party's two-leaves symbol and Pegasus, the horse from Greek mythology, landscaping the open area around the memorial using Korean grass, and planting exotic decorative plants such as palmyra alpha, date palm, spider lily and atinium, a granite pathway shaped like a massive guitar in the middle of the memorial, stainless steel handles around the memorial, a fountain in the middle, waterfall at the rear, decorative lamps, and an overhead tower with lights both at the entrance and on the arch.[5][1] Two pergolas having 18-metre width have also been constructed, in addition to ramps for the physically

MGR memorial in Chennai
A well known memorial of a well known person, MGR Memorial House, in Chennai, is dedicated to MG Ramachandran, India's first actor to become a chief minister and that too for three consecutive terms until his death. Considered as one of the greatest political leaders and actors of the state, his followers idolize him as Puratchi Thalaivar (Revolutionary leader). He was posthumously honoured with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of India.
The memorial house is situated at Arcrot Street, T. Nagar and was opened for public viewing in 1990 by Mrs Janaki Ramachandran in the presence of Dr. N.C Raghavachari, Shri N.P.V.Ramasamy Udayar and many well wishers of Late Dr. MGR. This was his official residence and was used by him for more than two decades. This memorial house is open for public viewing on all days except Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The house has a green that comes into view as you enter the house. The songs featured in Late MGR's films playing in a low tune all along will infuse the atmosphere with the feeling of his olden and golden days of acting. There are a number of shields displayed in the reception which were presented to MGR. The first floor of the house has his office room where there are displayed his belongings and personal things which he used.
Things like the swords, spears, heavy wooden clubs used by him, his plate, tumbler, telephone instrument, his shirts and the medals won by him are also shown here. Apart from this, there are things like his Bharat Ratna medal, books read by him, camera, photographs taken from MGR's films, his letters, his famous cap and dark glasses and the certificate degree of his doctorate are all displayed here. However, due to lack of space, all of his photographs are not been exhibited.
People come to this memorial to see what all things belonged to him, to have a glimpse of his memory, so that they can remember him the way he was. The memorial house has no entrance fees as it is maintained by MGR Memorial Charitable Trust. For a MGR fan, the Galleries of MGR's films and photos displayed is something to be proud of.

MGR memorial is a memorial structure built on the Marina beach in Chennai, India. It was built in memory of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. G. Ramachandran. Spread over 8.25 acres, the memorial is located adjacent to the Anna Memorial and has the highest footfall on the seafront. The body of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and MGR's protégé J. Jayalalithaa is also buried at this site.
The foundation stone for the construction of a memorial for former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was laid on the Marina beach front on Kamarajar Salai by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Monday.
The artist’s impression of the memorial released by the State government showed a monument at the centre flanked by a curvilinear-shaped knowledge park and a museum. Party sources said the monument would resemble a phoenix.
To be built at a cost of ₹50.8 crore, the proposed memorial would be bigger than those of former CMs C.N. Annadurai and M.G. Ramachandran located adjacent to the site.
Hundreds of cadre, party functionaries, Ministers, MPs and MLAs attended the foundation-laying ceremony, which started with a ‘yaagam’ at 6 a.m.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Mr. Palaniswami said, “A sum of ₹50.8 crore has been earmarked for the project. Tenders have been floated and the memorial will be constructed within a year.”
A museum on M. G. R. is located within the memorial at the northern side of the campus. Until 2012, the facade of the memorial was a tall entry arch with folded hands when it was replaced with a concrete replica of two-leaves emblem, the symbol of AIADMK party founded by M. G. Ramachandran. The facade was also given a Grecian touch with the erection of a 12-foot-high bronze sculpture of Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology. The 3.75-tonne sculpture, worked by architect R. Ravindran, a sthapathi from Mamallapuram, is set on a 4.5-metre-high pedestal.
Two 15.9-metre-high columns serving as the entrance are built with reinforced cement concrete. The elevated two-leaves structure is supported by a 6-metre-high beam serving as the stem. The leaf structure, with a span of 10.2 metre for each leaf, will be a metre higher than the nearby towering columns. The leaves has a slight resemblance of a honey comb and is visible from both the front and the rear.

Anna Memorial, locally known as Anna Samadhi, is a memorial structure built on the Marina beach in Chennai, India. It was built in memory of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C. N. Annadurai (1967-69), who was cremated here in 1969. The memorial lies on the northern end of the Marina abutting the MGR Memorial. The veteran leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party and the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Karunanidhi is also buried at the same site on 8 August 2018.
