Madrid is an artists' colony along the famous Turquoise Trail. It still retains some of it's mining past with the Mine Shaft Tavern and Madrid Old Cole Town Museum.

Sixteen years before Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a public bus in Montgomery, Alabama a little-known event occurred in Missouri – a significant yet neglected event of American labor history called ‘The Sharecropper Strike of 1939.' Sharecroppers had been evicted from their homes. They decided that their government and fellow citizens should know how one group of Americans lived, so they went out along the highway to demonstrate it.

The quaint little town of Madrid New Mexico is an hour East of Albuquerque in Santa Fe county. Madrid New Mexico is a recovered ghost town occupied by artists.In its hay day it was a coal mining town and was abandoned when the mines closed.
The movie Wild Hogs was filmed in Madrid New Mexico and the bar built just for the movie still stands. Madrid New Mexico found that being an art alternative to Santa Fe New Mexico is what Madrid does best.

New Madrid 1811-12 Earthquakes, Steamboat & Comet
True Story of the New Madrid Earthquakes of 1811-1812, the Steamboat, and Tecumseh's Comet. The forgotten earthquakes of America, and a warning of earthquakes to come...
In 1810 Fulton commissions the first steamboat to be built at Pittsburgh to sail the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. The steamboat, New Orleans, was nearing completion on October 6th when a bright comet appeared in the early morning sky in the fall of 1811.
On October 20th the New Orleans began its maiden voyage with Captain Nicholas Roosevelt, his wife pregnant Lidia, their daughter, dog, and servants and crew of twelve.
The next day they stopped at Wheeling West Virginia. The captain charged the townsfolk 25 cents to come aboard the steamboat for a tour.
About October 27th, the New Orleans arrived near Cincinnati Ohio. People were curious but when when it departed, the Cincinnatians thought the river current would prevent the steamboat from ever coming back.
Soon the steamboat arrived at Louisville Kentucky for provisions and coal. There on October 30th Lidia gave birth to a boy.
Because the water level was too low to pass over the rapids of the Ohio River Falls, the captain took the New Orleans back upstream to surprise the people of Cincinnati. For the next month, people were charged a dollar for rides up and down the river.
In early December 1811, after the Ohio river level rose they chanced transversing the Falls, new baby and all, and continued on toward the Mississippi River.
On December 15th the New Orleans stopped at a coal outcropping near Owensboro Kentucky. Very early the next morning, they heard terrible sounds and a felt shaking aboard the steamboat. It was the first great earthquake of the New Madrid Fault.
That morning they continued on to Henderson Kentucky, where no chimneys were left standing. They visited their friends, the painter John James Audubon and his wife Lucy.
The river journey resumed, but during multiple tremors shaking the land, the hazards of falling trees, collapsing river banks, and disappearing islands. At times the river would actually flow backwards.
Sometimes the ship pilot was confused because the river landscape had been so changed. The sky was filled with a haze and the land looked like ocean waves.
They reached the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers called the Point. The few buildings there were in ruins.
At various times they would see Indians along the riverbanks and in canoes. The Indians thought this fire canoe with the churning paddle caused the earthquakes and the belching smoke put debris into the water and sky.
Sometimes, Indian canoes raced the steamboat, but our power prevailed. The Indians were influenced also by the sign of Tecumseh's Comet, but now fading. His name, Tecumseh, means shooting star.
On December 19th, they approached New Madrid Missouri on the Mississippi River. The town was destroyed, but they didn't stop because of fear the steamboat would be overwhelmed by the fleeing people.
They saw many wrecked and abandoned boats and realized it was an undoubted miracle of God that the steamboat had survived and kept going.
Once they tied up at an island for the night only to find that most of the island had disappeared into the river the next morning.
On December 22nd at the mouth of the Saint Francis River, the British naturalist John Bradbury told them it was utter destruction inland.
Their harrowing journey was nearing its end when they arrived at Natchez Mississippi on December 30th, and learned that it had only been shaken with tremors. And on December 31st, the steamboat's engineer was married to Lidia's maid there.
On January 10, 1812 they finally arrived safely in the steamboat's namesake, New Orleans, after a 1900 miles journey.
But, that was not the end of the destruction, for there was another large earthquake on January 23, 1812 and the largest still on February 7th, which was felt as far away as Maine, and with hundreds of tremors in between.
On October 31, 1895 there was another large earthquake centered at Charleston Missouri which caused widespread destruction throughout the Mississippi valley.
In recent days, many small tremors are shaking the areas around the New Madrid Fault. This begs the question: What does the future hold for this region?
In 1973, David Wilkerson had a vision of tremendous earthquakes striking the United States. He wrote two books documenting what he saw: The Vision, 1973, and Racing Toward Judgment, 1976. You would do well to lookup these books and consider what he had to say!
Nevertheless, we must take the Lord's promise, with a warning, to heart: If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land - 2 Chronicles 7:14.
ABANDONED Train Stations
Keep in mind that before people had access to cars, the best way to get around would be to take a train. But as technology began to get more and more advanced throughout time, and cars became more popular, taking a train was less common. Other places would also become empty as other more modern terminals would take their place. From neglected subway systems in europe, to a forsaken building in Detroit, here are the creepiest abandoned train stations.

5.Chamberi Underground
This unoperational metroline has been turned into an underground museum and has been closed since 1966. The train station known as chamberi, located in madrid, spain went abandoned because it could no longer accommodate longer trains which had become the norm in europe. It first opened in 1919 of october 17. Travellers in Spain were a little bit reluctant to ride the subways at first, but bright colors extensive designs helped bring in more people. As the population continued to grow in the 1960’s the station was just seemingly too small to handle all of the passenger traffic. Other metros in the city were begining to use bigger trains and they increased the standard length to 90 meters, train operators found it to be a hassle to slow down every time they passed through here. Eventually it would open up as a museum in 2008 despite the underground being already graffitied.
4.Thurmond West Virginia
Once a thriving center of Coal mining in West Virginia, Thurmond was a prosperous place of commerce and businesses along the Ohio Railway. It popped up in the 1880’s in the center of the state and consisted of popular hotels, casinos, banks, schools. It was a fairly well organized city with strict laws on drinking. In 1888 a rail station was built which allowed for tourism in the area and also to carry the coal out of the hills. The population reached a peak of 462 people 1930 but steady downfall would occur not too long after. A popular hotel was burnt to the ground which which had startled much of the population and would finally reach 0 in the year 2000. You can see the contrast between the cities built out in the west and out in the east during this time. There was much more technological advancements and the addition of coal to a city at this period of time would allow them to heat their homes. Surprisingly the city hasn’t received too many vandals and much of it’s past is preserved.
3.Vance Creek Bridge
So even though this one isn’t technically a rail station, we figured it was creepy and abandoned enough to make this list. Hidden behind countless evergreen trees is a treasure that measures 347 feet above the ground. This was at one point the tallest 2nd trestle bridge in the US. It was used as an important route to transport lumber from Washington’s lush forests. Eventually, when the government decided to protect the land nearby and not cut down the trees, the bridge was no longer needed. Legends have told tales of not only the bridge being haunted but also the creek down below.It’s said to be haunted by the spirit of a woman that fell of the creepy looking bridge. At night, there’s been sightings of a woman, floating from the bottom to the top. You call tell from this photo that’s there no hand rails, and a fall down would certainly be lethal. At one point it was a hotspot for instagrammers looking to get a cool shot in order to get some likes. Are like really worth your life? They have tried to implement no trespassing signs in order to deter vandalism and loitering. It’s been sealed up and it doesn;t seem like it’s easy to get in there anymore But, there’s good news. If you search on instagram #thatnwbridge there seems to be recent photos of people there and On clear days, you could see Mt. Ranier in the background.
2.Aldwych tube Station
You won’t be catching any tubes from this station anytime soon. That’s because it’s abandoned. This closed station is found in the capital city of London UK and opened all the way back in 1907 with name of Strands Station, originally after the name of the street it’s located on. It was the terminus of the picadilly line branch from holborn. The reason why it’s called the Aldwych station is because the Strand’s junction with surrey street which is located in Aldwych. Due to it’s iconic british appearance, it’s been the set for many hit hollywood movies, including sherlock, fast and the furious, V for Vendetta, superman, and in the zombie movie 28 weeks later. Since it’s been abandoned for quite some time now it makes a great location for apocalyptic movies. After operating for more than 30 years only during peak hours, the closure announcement took place in January of 1993. The buildings above it though are still sitting on some valuable real estate and are occupied by the King's College of London.

La Plata, MO, in Northern Missouri, is located on BNSF Railway's Marceline Subdivision at milepost 312.7, part of their Southern Transcon, the former Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF) mainline between Chicago and Los Angeles.
Amtrak’s Southwest Chief passenger train stops here twice a day; the eastbound train #4 in the morning and the westbound train #3 in the evening.
The typical BNSF freight train volume is between 50 and 70 trains per 24 hours. There are 2 cameras available.
There is an ATCS layout available, as well as a radio feed for the western part of the BNSF Marceline Sub, listening to AAR road channel 30, 160.560 (also includes Norfolk Southern's Kansas City District, on road channel 22, 160.440):

European Civilization, 1648-1945 (HIST 202)
The nineteenth century in Europe is, in many ways, synonymous with the rise of the bourgeoisie. It is misleading, however, to consider this newly dominant middle class as a homogenous group; rather, the century may be more accurately described in terms of the rise of plural middle classes. While the classes comprising this group were united by their search for power based on property rights rather than hereditary privilege, they were otherwise strikingly diverse. Contemporary stereotypes of the bourgeois as a grasping philistine ought to therefore be nuanced. Along with the real, undeniable cruelty of many capitalists with respect to their workers, the middle classes also pioneered the first philanthropic voluntary associations, broadened the reach of public education, and inspired the development of effective birth control.

This is the largest model train layout of the world. This beautiful model railway is called Miniatur Wonderland. The Miniatur Wonderland is Germany's largest and finest model railroad exhibit, and the largest of its kind in the world. The model railway layout is located in Hamburg, Germany. There are 50,525 ft of railway tracks in HO scale, divided into several sections, for example, Germany, Alps and Austria, City of Hamburg, America, Scandinavia, Switzerland and Italy.
One of the most popular attractions, beside the model trains, is the replica of the Hamburg Airport because it is a fully functioning miniature airport complete with departures and landings of model airplanes. I guess, you will not believe your eyes when you watch this video.

First Person with Michel Margosis May 24, 2018
Through the First Person program, Holocaust survivors have the opportunity to share their remarkable personal stories of hope, tragedy, and survival with thousands of visitors at the Museum. This program was recorded on May 24, 2018. It features Michel Margosis, whose parents were Russian born Jews. His father had been a policeman in Russia who had been deported to Siberia for being an outspoken Zionist. After escaping, Michel's parents made their way to Belgium. Michel's father owned and edited two newspapers, one French and one Yiddish. In 1940 when the Germans invaded Belgium, Michel and his family fled to the south of France where they ended up in Marseilles. The Margosis family hoped to get exit visas and sail for the United States. However, they did not succeed in obtaining visas and escaped over the Pyrenees Mountains into Spain. The yellow arrow on this map shows their escape route. Arrangements were then made for Michel to come to the United States in 1943.
