SAILING to MENORCA [Ep 12]
In this episode, we get a bit seasick! It's gotta happen to every sailor, right? Ah well, the crossing nonetheless went well. No mishaps, just a bit of waves which threw our stomachs off balance.
We crossed from Sardinia to Menorca, a distance of about 200 nautical miles which took us about 50 hours. The first day was relatively calm and we had full sails up. Over night, the wind and waves picked up, until we were sailing with only a very reefed in jib –– and still making 4 - 5 knots! Crazy.

Chilled Menorca Boat Trip - #MustSeeMenorca
A quick chilled Menorca boat trip from our trip/conference (#mustseemenorca) out in Menorca, Spain in May.
We had a brilliant time with 60 elite influencers out in Menorca, seeing what the island had to offer and learning at the conference. Met some lovely talented people and loved the island.
I came back with so much footage that I decided to put out one just on the boat trip.
We found Mediterranean paradise [Ep 16]
I LOVE Minorca. So far, it's my favourite spot in the Mediterranean. Little paradise bays, wild olive trees, sunbaked dirt, azure blue water... what else could you want?!
This episode was filmed entirely on a GoPro 5 black and an iPhone SE. Edited in Final Cut Pro.
The tune I played at the beginning is called the Mad Bulgar by Gordon Stobbe.

The Megalithic T-Shaped Pillars and Round Towers of Menorca - Talati de Dalt
Subscribe here: Hugh Newman visits 'Talatí de Dalt' on the Balearic Island of Menorca with Neil McDonald of and a few megalithomaniacs in October 2016. The Talaiotic settlement was built around the 9th century BC but it could be much older. The complex consists of huge T-shaped pillars (Taula) in stone enclosures, that resemble the T-pillars of Gobekli Tepe in Turkey (but those date to over 12,000 years old, so there is no direct connection). Also, the Gobekli pillars are carved from a single stone. These Taula's are made of two stones. The site also has a cyclopean tower called a 'Talaiot' (similar to the Nuraghe Towers of Sardinia), plus caves and stone houses. This is one of about 15 sites on Menorca that have these mysterious T-shaped pillars. Legend states that these were the tables of the giants who used to eat food off them. Includes exclusive aerial footage.

CLASSIC BOAT SHOW in SPAIN [Ep 14]
In this episode, we explore a little bit more of Mahon, the huge natural harbour of Minorca. We see an impressive catamaran, explore a fortress, and see some truly incredible classic boats at the annual classic boat show in Mahon. Plus, I have a bit of fun and take some creative license with the narration... let me know what you think. I wanted to create a spoken-word style piece, and then set it to music... but now I'm pretty sure a lot of people will say it was rap. I guess it all depends on definitions, but it was not my intention to rap the narration haha.
As always, a HUGE thank you to our generous, kind, and inspiring patrons. If you're interested in supporting our journey and becoming a patron, please check out this link:
And, stay tuned for the next episode, we have a special one coming out :)

028 Foam Parties, Festivals and Jungleparc Tree Top Kids Activities while Sailing Mallorca
While stuck at anchor in Santa Ponsa waiting for our water pump and battery charger to arrive, we decide to go ashore and check the ridiculously loud music keeping us awake at night! It turned out to be the Festival del Rei en Jaumer - a week long festival of food, music and entertainment which ended with a foam party and magnificent firework display!
Having Granddad onboard gave us another excuse to go to Palma again and this time we visited the impressive, Palma Cathedral and try the local paella and sangria.
Two weeks without water pump meant we had to desperately seek out swimming pools and beach showers and manually pump 20L of water into the solar shower.. which didn't go far with 6 of us onboard! It was a smelly boat by the time our @MARCOspaCompany water pump and the #mastervolt battery charger turned up. The kids quickly turned the packaging into new toys and Woody fitted the new equipment and fun though Santa Ponsa was, it was a relief to be on the move again
Homeschooling continued and for science we made a @yankodesign scale model of Theo Jansen's strandbeest - so cool! We then visited @JungleParcMallorc the Treetops adventure playground for some fun in the trees!
The Balearic islands seemed to attract a lot of storms later in the season and we began thinking of shelter for the winter and perhaps even finding a Spanish school for the kids as they've had little opportunities to socialise with other kids lately.
Then more maintenance issues - our @Raymarine autopilot gave up! :/ It becomes quite demoralising after a while - things constantly breaking down all the time.
We finally left Mallorca (or is it Majorca?) for Ibiza in what we thought was a good weather window, but as Woody was calmly enjoying a cup of his beloved @yorkshiretea we sailed straight into a thunderstorm!
Luckily we came through unscathed so we poled out the head sail (the set up copied from a year 2000 @AmelYachts brochure!) and headed for San Antonio. Rowan read her current favourite book by @DanBrown while the boys played and learned about sound signals and navigation!
Then disaster struck. As we were leaving the dock after a final water stop, we ripped a huge hole in the dinghy which on top of everything else going wrong on the boat was completely demoralising - this is not a good way to 'live the dream'. We still had several hundred miles to travel.. and now no dinghy to get to shore.
So as the end of the summer season draws to a close - we head to Almerimar for the winter and catch up with blogs and maintenance.. and if anyone has any of the following going spare...
Dinghy, AIS transponder, autopilot, microwave, depth sounder, washing machine, wind instruments, folding bike, solar panels, boat fridge, new batteries... please let us know!
...in fact just message us for the whole list! ;)
