Places to see in ( Turin - Italy ) Parco del Valentino
Parco del Valentino is a popular public park in Turin, Italy. It is located along the west bank of the Po river. It covers an area of 500,000m², which makes it Turin's second largest park. (Turin's largest park, the 840,000m² Pellerina Park, is Italy's most extended urban green area).
The Parco del Valentino was opened by the city of Turin in 1856, and was Italy’s first public garden. Several now defunct paved street circuits held races in the park between 1935 and 1954. Except for the 1948 Italian Grand Prix, the official title for these races was the Gran Premio del Valentino.
Buildings within the park include:
The Botanical Gardens
The Baroque Castle (Castello del Valentino)
Medieval Castle and Village
The Torino Esposizioni and Underground Pavilion Complex
Società Promotrice delle Belle Arti
Villa Glicini
Enzo Ferrari's special bench

Turin - Travel In Northern Italy
Turin (Torino) is an important business and cultural center, and capital of the Piedmont region. It is surrounded by the western Alpine arch.
The city has a rich culture and history, with many fascinating monuments, palaces, churches, and so forth. Turin is well known for its renaissance, baroque, rococo, neo-classical, and art nouveau architecture.
During our stay we visited:
- Piazza San Carlo (with Emmanuel Philibert on his horse)
- Palazzo Carignano
- Palazzo Madama and Piazza Castello
- the Palazzo Reale with it's extraordinary interiors
- Royal Church of S. Lorenzo
- Parco del Valentino and the Borgo Medievale,
stopping to admire Castello del Valentino
Many of the city's public squares, castles, gardens and elegant palazzi were built in the 16th and 18th century.
Turin was the birthplace and home of notable politicians and people who contributed to the Risorgimento.
The city was once a major European political center, being Italy's first capital city in 1861, and the home to the House of Savoy, Italy's royal family.
Although not as popular as other Italian cities, we found it to be a delightful place to visit. Many of the most interesting sights are concentrated in a single area, making it a very manageable destination.
CORRECTION: This is a little embarrassing. Our opening segment identifies the city as Turino - which is wrong. It's either Torino (Italian), or Turin (English).
Thanks to our helpful contributors for suggestions...
and corrections!
Turin Living City
This time lapse was ment to show how beautiful the city Turin is. Sadly for work reason I moved from Turin before I had the chance to complete it. So I publish this unfinished project as a small Time Lapse as a tribute for Turin.

TORINO - Italy Travel Guide | Around The World
Turin (Italian: Torino; Piedmontese: Turin), a large city of about one million inhabitants, is the capital of Piedmont, a region of northwestern Italy, a one-hour drive from the French border and slightly more than that from the Mediterranean sea. It's famous for being the home of Sabaudian former royal family. Today, Turin, with its fine, aristocratic atmosphere, old world sophisticated shops, grand boulevards and palaces, leafy parks, and several art galleries, is an increasingly popular tourist resort. The 2006 Winter Olympics, and its status recently as World Book Capital have promoted tourists to visit this beautiful and underestimated Italian city, which has a longstanding cultural and artistic history.
Turin was the first capital of modern Italy, and was the host of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. While it's not a famous tourist destination like Florence or Rome, the setting is pleasant, with the Po River flowing through the city, the genteel hills overlooking the city and scattered with pleasant villas and surrounded by the Italian Alps off in the distance. This is why the famous architect Le Corbusier defined Turin as the city with the most beautiful natural location in the world.
Turin is an important hub of technology and industry. The FIAT automobile company is based here: The 'T' in the name stands for Torino (F I A T = Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino, which translates as: Italian Automobile Factory Turin). It was also the birthplace to several cultural and political movements in Italy.
Turin inhabitants are well known across Italy for their understatement and composure and the city reflects this attitude.
Many people consider Torino the European capital of Baroque: many palaces and churches were built in this style during the kingdom of the Savoia. It isn't the typical Italian city, with red and yellow buildings: is a bit more French, so much that is also called the little Paris; wide boulevards with white buildings make the city center more similar to Paris. Around the city, a crown of churches and castles, some up on a hilltop, some lost in a park, provide plenty of interesting views. Turin also has an aristocratic atmosphere - the centre is filled with posh 19th century cafes, regal-like arcaded mansions, debonair glittering restaurants, and grand churches.
Turin is home to the famous Shroud of Turin. More recently, it has become the home of the Slow Food Movement.
Turin's international airport is located 15km north of the city center and is named after Italy's former President Sandro Pertini. It is in the town of Caselle, connected to Turin city by a convenient motorway.
Turin has three main railway stations, Porta Nuova, Porta Susa and Lingotto FS.
Turin's main attractions include important baroque palaces and churches, a regular and attractive street grid, an extensive network of arcades, famous coffee shops and a number of world-renowned museums.
Turin is full of fountains to fill your water bottle or just have a drink. You can find these public fountains all across the city, from the center to the suburbs, providing you with free public water, and thanks to the nearby Alps, the public water is very clean and fresh.
Where before there were boatsheds, you will find many modern bars and nightclubs by the river Po at the Murazzi close to the bridge Ponte Vittorio Emanuele. Closer to the historical center, there are many charming old-world cafes.

Places to see in ( Turin - Italy ) Museo Nazionale del Cinema
The National Museum of Cinema located in Turin, is an Italian motion picture museum, fitted out inside the Mole Antonelliana tower. It is operated by the Maria Adriana Prolo Foundation, and the core of its collection is the result of the work of the historian and collector Maria Adriana Prolo (it). It was housed in the Palazzo Chiablese. In 2008, with 532,196 visitors, it reached the thirteenth place among the most visited Italian museums.
The museum houses pre-cinematographic optical devices such as magic lanterns, earlier and current film technologies, stage items from early Italian movies and other memorabilia. Along the exhibition path of about 35.000 square feet (3.200 m2) on five levels, it is possible to visit some areas devoted to the different kinds of film crew, and in the main hall, fitted in the temple hall of the Mole (which was a building originally intended as a synagogue), a series of chapels representing several film genres.
The museum keeps a huge and growing collection of film posters, stocks, and a library: at present it includes 20,000 devices, paintings and printed artworks, more than 80,000 pictures, over 300,000 film posters, 12,000 movie reels and 26,000 books (as of February 2006). A movie screen located in the Massimo multiplex, near to the museum, is reserved to retrospectives and other museum initiatives. The museum hosts several film festivals, the major and most prestigious of them being the Torino Film Festival.
Inside the museum there is also a panoramic elevator (opened in 2000) with transparent glass walls, that cover its 75 meters ride in 59 seconds, in the single open space span of the building, without middle floors, up to the small temple which gives a 360 degrees panoramic view of the city. It is the museum with the biggest vertical extension of the world.

Terra Madre Parade - Sharing Our Love For The Earth
It was a magical night. As the stalls around Turin’s Valentino Park closed for the evening, thousands of delegates from more than 100 countries made their way, with drums and flags and banners, through the heart of the city.
Along the riverside avenue of Corso Cairoli, up to Piazza Vittorio, Via Po and Piazza Carlo Alberto, we marched together in our thousands, smiling and shouting the message of good, clean and fair food for all. There was much to celebrate. Slow Food’s 30th birthday, Salone del Gusto’s 20th, and the first ever edition of Terra Madre held out in the open.
Delegates waved placards proclaiming “Voler Bene Alla Terra” (Love the Earth), “Terra Madre”, “Vote With Your Fork”, and each national delegation carried flags and streamers in a festival of international cooperation, understanding, and shared values. Loving the Earth, and good, clean and fair food for all.
