SILFRA - Diving World's Clearest Water In Iceland
Silfra in Iceland has some of the clearest, purest and most beautiful water in the world. Its rated as one of the planet's top cold water dive sites and is the place where the continents of Europe and North America meet together. The Silfra dive site is located in the Thingvellir National Park Iceland. If you are thinking about diving in Iceland then the Silfra dive is a must see. You can dive there all year round, under the midnight sun and even in wintertime. Silfra is simply a great dive site that has to be seen to be believed. You can only imagine how pure the water is, so pure in fact, you can actually drink the water your diving in - now that's seriously pure!
This stunning video was brought to by the team at Magmadive in Iceland. The footage was shot during the summer at Silfra by David Ramsay using a GO PRO Hero 3. In the video, David wears a Waterproof D1 Hybird Drysuit, the only constant volume drysuit in the world. David offers personalised drysuit training for divers new to the realm of cold water environments like Silfra.

Silfra Fissure - The World's Clearest Water
Silfra Fissure is located in Thingvellir National Park in Iceland, the Silfra dive site is approximately 60 kilometres (a 45-minute drive) from Reykjavik. Silfra is the only place where one can dive or snorkel directly in the crack between two continental plates.
The Silfra fissure, is known as one of the top dive sites in the world for two main reasons.
First, the Silfra fissure is actually a crack between the North American and Eurasian continents, meaning that you dive or snorkel right where the continental plates meet and drift apart about 2cm per year.
Secondly, the underwater visibility in the Silfra fissure is over 100 meters, which creates an underwater experience that will rarely, if ever, be surpassed.
The reasons for this astounding water clarity are twofold: the water is cold (2°C – 4°C year round ) as it is melt water from the nearby Langjökull Glacier and this water is filtered through porous underground lava for 30-100 years until it reaches the north end of Thingvellir lake, seeping out from underground wells.
The Silfra water is as pristine as water can get and you can drink it at anytime during your dive or snorkel.
Thanks for watching.

Diving - Silfra, Þingvellir - Iceland (Remastered) [4K]
Silfra lies in the Þingvellir valley and within the Þingvellir National Park. The valley, and Silfra itself, were formed by the divergent drift of the Eurasian (to the left) and North American (to the right) tectonic plates.
An amazing place to dive, with viz of about 100m

'The trip of an Iceland'
This was the impressive 5 day trip called 'Iceland Calling' orgainsed by the Simply Sidemount team from the UK.
Packed into these 5 days, we drove in a Land Cruiser 4x4 across some of the most beautiful landscape we had ever seen to reach our destinations.
We endulged in fine meals, open air spa (some of us with natural mud face packs), treated to the most amazing Northern Lights show hardly even seen in the summer months. Enjoyed diving at the well know Silfra site between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates and Davids Crack, visted the incredible glaciers and ice caps, walked on the black beach littered with huge icebergs, watching and listening to the sound of thunder as smaller icebergs break off even bigger icebergs while the seals had their fun. Visited many huge waterfalls and tourists scenic views along the way.
However, the best treat by far was after diving the only divable geothermal chimney in the world, we were privileged to see, at very close contact, some of the most magnificent graceful mammals man has ever seen, the humpback whale! 20 or so of them!
Hope you like it :-)
My special thanks goes out to Samantha Raby for helping organise the itinery of the trip amongst other things, Toni Douthwaite, Ross Gammon for their superb company as well as Connor Dallas for his scenic photography skills. Some images and the video were taken by Sam too, but we couldn't have had such an amazing time if it wasn't for the outstanding diving services given by Thorvaldur Hafberg (Valdi) at Halberg Kofunavorur.is, advice from David Ramsey at Magmadive and Saevor Dagny at Strytan Divecentre for her watchfulness in the fjord.
Here's to next years trip!
I thankyou all :-)

Silfra Snorkeling - þingvellir national park
On 26/12/2017 we did some snorkelling in þingvellir national park, not far from Reykjavik.Had an amazing experience beyond compare.
Not just anywhere, but in þingvellir national park.
Iceland is divided by the Mid-Atlantic Rift; some parts of it, such as the Westfjords and Reyjavík, are on the North American tectonic plate, while others, such as Vatnajökull glacier and the East Fjords, are on the Eurasian plate. Iceland is the only place in the world where this rift is above sea-level, and nowhere can you see the edges of both plates as clearly as in Þingvellir.
It was -8 deg outside and 0 deg in water.
Snorkelling can be easily done if you can bare the cold for sometime with dry suits.
It was soooo cold that ice formed on our hands, legs & hair, but totally worth it.
If you can dare the nature, it'll return you back with loads of love!
Huge shout out to the good music from:

Virtual Dive on the wreck of the Melckmeyt (1659), Iceland's oldest identified shipwreck
REMINDER: VIEW IN HIGHEST RESOLUTION FOR BEST EXPERIENCE
This video was made by John McCarthy. It was created as part of a collaboration with maritime archaeologists and museums in Reykjavik, Iceland to create a virtual reality diving experience exploring Iceland’s oldest shipwreck. By donning a Virtual Reality headset, members of the public can now experience what a diver sees without getting their feet wet. Visitors can also see how the shipwreck might have looked just after it sank 360 years ago.
The wreck at the centre of the project is a merchant ship named Melckmeyt (Milkmaid). It was discovered in 1992 by local divers Erlendur Guðmundsson and Sævar Árnason, close to a tiny isolated island called Flatey in Breiðafjörður, off the west coast of Iceland. A preliminary investigation was carried out in 1993 by archaeologist Bjarni Einarsson on behalf of the National Museum of Iceland. Investigations at the site restarted in 2016, when a team of divers from the University of Iceland decided to carry out a more detailed survey. This team was led by Kevin Martin, a maritime archaeologist and PhD student in archaeology at the University of Iceland, with the assistance of maritime archaeologists from the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency who are interested in the ship as it is believed to have been built in the Netherlands and represents one of the world’s most northerly historical Dutch shipwrecks. The team was able to apply the latest technological innovations to make a high-resolution 3D survey of the shipwreck and this data has been used as the basis of the virtual reality experience.
The significance of this wreck is enormous for Iceland. As the oldest known wreck in this part of the world, it shines light on a fascinating period of Icelandic history, when Denmark ruled the island and had a monopoly over trade there for a period of 200 years.
Visitors to the Reykjavik Maritime Museum can now explore the shipwreck without submerging into the freezing North Atlantic sea, by visiting the museum and donning a Virtual Reality headset The highly detailed three-minute animation lets the virtual diver swim over the wreck and by just moving their head, look in all directions around them. This can be viewed directly through the YouTube website, either on a computer or smart phone (by dragging your mouse across the scene or moving the phone to look around) or by using a virtual reality headset such as Google Cardboard or Samsung Gear VR. There is plenty to see, such as the surviving ship timbers on the seabed, a detailed reconstruction of the ship and even a few jellyfish.
This is a highly international project, and support and involvement from many different agencies have made it possible. The 2016 survey was funded by Rannis – The Icelandic Centre for Research. Additional funding for dendro-chronological analysis and archival research has been provided by The Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands.
The reconstruction of the wreck as it might have appeared after its wrecking in 1659 is based on a scan on a scale model of the likely same type of ship, a flute, built around the same time and now stored in the Maritime Museum in Rotterdam.

Squid caught while fishing
My parents were out fishing when they got this squid on the hook! They brought him/her back home so I could see it (because I love marine organisms, lol). It was not harmed during capture, and we set it free right after this video was filmed! This is the first living squid I've ever seen in Norway ^^
