Its striking art and architecture make it one of the city's most important historical landmarks. The city of Junagadh has other 18th century mausoleums built by the Nawabs in the area around Chitkana Chowk. Started in 1878 by Mahabat Khanji and completed in 1892 by his successor, Bahadur Khanji, the Mahabat Maqbara houses the tombs of Mahabat Khanji and Bahauddin Maqbara of Bahaduddinbhai Hasainbhai, vizir of Nawab Rasul Khanji. Standing over the grave of Nawab Mahabat Khan II, the tomb is a mixture of Islamic, Hindu and European influences, typical of Junagadh's royal monuments from the late 19th century.

Mahabat (not Mohabbat) Maqbara Palace, also Mausoleum of Bahaduddinbhai Hasainbhai , is a mausoleum in Junagadh, India, that was once home to the Muslims rulers the Nawabs of Junagadh. It was built by Nawab Mahabat Khan II of Junagadh (1851–82).

The city of Junagadh has other 18th-century mausoleums built by the Nawabs in the area around Chittakhana Chowk.This architectural marvel is known for amalgamation of Indo Islamic,Neo Gothic and Euopean style.The minars and dome are Islamic in nature,the sculpture and pillars are gothic in style.The most unique and interesting fact about this mausoleum is that it has stairs from outside of minars unlike others minars which have stairs from inside of minar for example-Qutub Minar.

Mahabat maqbara palace, also mausoleum of Bahaduddinbhai Hassainbhai, is a mausoleum in junagadh, India, that was once home to muslim rulers, the nawabs of Junagadh. It was built by Nawab Mahabat Khan II of Junagadh (1851-82).
mahabat maqbara is also known as mini tajmahal of junagadh. This architectural marvel is known for amalgamation of Indo islamic, neo gothic and europen style. The most unique and interesting fact about this mausoleum is that it has stairs from outside of minars, unlike other minars, like the qutub minar which has stairs from inside of minar.
One more important point about mahabat maqbara is that entry is free and it is also a photoshoot point.

The Mahabat Maqbara is a palace-mausoleum in the Junagadh district of the Indian state of Gujarat, adjacent to the sacred Girnar Hills in Saurashtra. The etymological meaning of Junagadh Old Fort gives the palace its alternativ name of The Old Fort Palace. The yellow mausoleum, Mahabat Maqbara, is a masterpiece of its kind with finely designed arches, vertical columns and elaborate stone carvings on the walls and windows. Its silver-decorated portals, the winding staircases encircling its four tall minarets, the old step-well in the grounds, and its onion-shaped dome contribute to its splendor.

With a combination of Indo-Islamic and Gothic architecture, Mahabat Maqbara offers a sense of equality and exchange between the two cultures. The Jammi Masjid is on one side of the mausoleum while the Vazir's maqbara is on the other. The Mahabbat Maqbara is generally closed to the public but can be seen by obtaining the keys from the mosque situated beside the mausoleum. Amongst the forts and monuments in the state of Gujarat, the Mahabat Maqbara is an exquisite example the nineteenth century art and architecture.

Mausoleum construction began in 1878 by Mahabat Khanji and was complete in 1892 by his successor Bahadur Kanji. The architecture of the Mahabat Maqbara showcases a melody of Hindu, Islam and Gothic influences in the form of pillars, windows, arches and stone carved walls. Most striking feature of the monument is its staircases encircling the minarets and the domes of different sizes.

Mahabat Maqbara : Built in 1892 over the grave of Nawab Mahabat Khan 2 (1851-82) in Euro-Indo-Islamic architectural style with French windows and Gothic columns.Its lavish appeal is topped off by its silver inner doors. Even more beautiful is the neighbouring Vazir’s Mausoleum with four minarets encircled by spiralling stairways.

The Upperkot fort (Junagadh - Gujarat - India)

(EN) Junagadh is a city and a municipal corporation, the headquarters of Junagadh district in the Indian state of Gujarat. The city is located at the foot of the Girnar hills. Literally translated, Junagadh means Old Fort. It is also known as Sorath, the name of the earlier Princely State of Junagadh.
An impressive fort, Uperkot, located on a plateau in the middle of town, was originally built during the Mauryan dynasty by Chandragupta in 319 BCE The fort remained in use until the 6th century, when it was covered over for 300 years, then rediscovered in 976 CE The fort was besieged 16 times over an 800-year period. One unsuccessful siege lasted twelve years.
An inscription with fourteen Edicts of Ashoka is found on a large boulder within 2 km of Uperkot Fort. The inscriptions carry Brahmi script in Pali language and date back to 250 BCE On the same rock are inscriptions in Sanskrit added around 150 CE by Mahakshatrap Rudradaman I, the Saka (Scythian) ruler of Malwa, a member of the Western Kshatrapas dynasty Another inscription dates from about 450 CE and refers to Skandagupta, the last Gupta emperor. Old rock-cut Buddhist caves in this area, dating from well before 500 CE, have stone carvings and floral work. There are also the Khapra Kodia Caves north of the fort, and the Babupyana Caves south of the fort.
The Maitraka dynasty ruled Gujarat in western India from 475 to 767 CE The founder of the dynasty, general Bhatarka, a military governor of Saurashtra peninsula under the Gupta empire, established himself as the independent ruler of Gujarat approximately in the last quarter of the 5th century[4]. However, James Tod states Maitraka rule ended as early as 524 CE.
