Mahatma Gandhi Setu (also called Gandhi Setu or Ganga Setu) is a bridge over the river Ganges connecting Patna in the south to Hajipur in the north of Bihar.[3] Its length is 5,750 metres (18,860 ft)[4] and it is the second longest river bridge in India.[5][6] It was inaugurated in May 1982 by the then Prime Minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi. First time in world Segmental Bridge of cement remake in Steel and convert in truss Bridge
The existing super structure of 5.575km-long Gandhi Setu is proposed to be completely demolished and triangular steel girders The existing super structure of 5.575 km -long, The entire project is divided in two phases. The western flank of the bridge is to be completely demolished and rebuilt first along with installation of steel trusses, followed by the same process on the eastern flank. As of now, 19 spans from Hajipur end have been demolished. The rehabilitated bridge would have four lanes. Other utilities on the bridge would include footpath (1.5 meter wide), railings, anti-crash barrier, utility carrier and solar-powered street lights.
