RUSSIA: POLICE RAID MEDIA-MOST HOLDINGS OFFICES
Russian/Nat
Investigators accompanied by gun-toting policemen on Thursday searched the offices of the Media-Most holding company in Moscow.
The group's television station and print media have been critical of President Vladimir Putin's government.
Media-Most denounced the raid, calling it an attempt to punish the company's media outlets for their reports of government corruption and incompetence.
Dozens of investigators and police commandos entered the company's offices in downtown Moscow early on Thursday.
Police armed with submachine guns and wearing ski masks and flak jackets stood guard outside.
The search was conducted by the Prosecutor General's office, the Interior Ministry and the tax police.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Prosecutor General's Office said the search was being conducted in connection with a criminal case opened on April 26th.
The investigation is concerned with whether employees with Media-Most's security department disclosed bank secrets and violated privacy laws.
The statement said that prosecutors had uncovered information about the Media-Most employees while investigating the embezzlement of government money.
During the search, investigators looked through documents and took down worker's personal details.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
They're letting everyone go slowly.
Question: Is there any explanation of what's happening?
No.
Question: By they're actions, what can you say they are doing?
They're looking for something.
SUPER CAPTION: Voxpop, unnamed employee
Like other media, Media-Most's news outlets are heavily influenced by their owner, Vladimir Gusinsky, who is critical of Putin.
Media-Most has run afoul of the government before.
Last November, it said that a major Russian bank, Vneshekonombank, had seized N-T-V property in connection with the station's 42.2 (m) million U-S dollar debt.
The company alleged that the move was part of a campaign of pressure by Kremlin insiders including Alexander Voloshin, who was chief of staff for former President Boris Yeltsin at the time.
Voloshin was Putin's chief of staff before tendering his resignation along with the rest of the presidential administration on Sunday, when Putin was inaugurated.
Russian media have speculated that he will return to the post.
Speaking on Thursday, a high ranking director of the company said Media-Most was being punished for exposing corruption among the political elite.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
We consider it to be a kind of punishment... quote unquote..for publications on corruption in the highest echelons of Russian political power and it is an attempt at intimidation of journalists.
SUPER CAPTION: Igor Malashenko, deputy head of board of directors of Media-Most
N-T-V, Media-Most's flagship operation, speculated that the search may have been triggered by a recent article in its publication Segodnya.
The article alleged wrongdoing by a high-ranking official in the Federal Security Service (F-S-B), the K-G-B's main successor.
President Vladimir Putin spent 15 years with the K-G-B's foreign intelligence arm, and led the F-S-B before he was named prime minister last year.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I think it is bizarre it is taking place on the second working day of the newly elected president Putin and I do believe it sends a very wrong and disturbing signal about the situation with the freedom of the press in Russia and the political regime, the shape it is taking under a new president.
SUPER CAPTION: Igor Malashenko, deputy head of board of directors of Media-Most
Policemen wearing camouflage uniforms remained outside the office building throughout Thursday as the search continued inside.

SUMMARY
=======
The Battle of Stalingrad (23 August 1942 – 2 February 1943) was the largest confrontation of World War II, in which Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) in Southern Russia.
Marked by fierce close quarters combat and direct assaults on civilians in air raids, it was the largest (nearly 2.2 million personnel) and bloodiest (1.8–2 million killed, wounded or captured) battle in the history of warfare. After their defeat at Stalingrad, the German High Command had to withdraw vast military forces from the Western Front to replace their losses. The German offensive to capture Stalingrad began in August 1942, using the 6th Army and elements of the 4th Panzer Army. The attack was supported by intensive Luftwaffe bombing that reduced much of the city to rubble. The fighting degenerated into house-to-house fighting; both sides poured reinforcements into the city. By mid-November 1942, the Germans had pushed the Soviet defenders back at great cost into narrow zones along the west bank of the Volga River.
On 19 November 1942, the Red Army launched Operation Uranus, a two-pronged attack targeting the weaker Romanian and Hungarian armies protecting the German 6th Army's flanks. The Axis forces on the flanks were overrun and the 6th Army was cut off and surrounded in the Stalingrad area. Adolf Hitler ordered that the army stay in Stalingrad and make no attempt to break out; instead, attempts were made to supply the army by air and to break the encirclement from the outside. Heavy fighting continued for another two months. By the beginning of February 1943, the Axis forces in Stalingrad had exhausted their ammunition and food. The remaining units of the 6th Army surrendered. The battle lasted five months, one week and three days.

'You killed our future': Man throws himself from balcony in Romanian parliament
Romania's Parliament cancelled a no-confidence vote on Thursday after a father whose payments for his disabled child had been cut by the Romanian government leapt from a balcony in the parliament in protest against the decision. He was not seriously injured. A loud thud reverberated in the chamber after the man, Adrian Sobaru - identified by the country's public television station as one of its engineers - hit the benches shortly after Prime Minister Emil Boc greeted the lawmakers. As he jumped, he could be heard shouting: 'Boc, you've taken away the rights of our children'. Mr Sobaru, who suffered fractures to the face, and other non life-threatening injuries, was able to get into the parliament because he works as an electrician for the national television station. He then shouted Liberty and Justice as he was taken to hospital. He was also wearing a T-shirt with the slogan 'You've killed our future', according to reports.

A 75 year old single-handedly stopped the march of the desert!
Ranaram Bishnoi has planted 27,000 Trees and is nicknamed the ‘’Tree Man’’ in Ekalkhori village, around 100 kms from Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India. He belongs to the Bishnoi community - the forbearer of the Chipko movement, famous for its non-violent, tree-hugging protest against tree felling.
He has been planting these trees for some years now, drawing water from a nearby well and carrying it in an earthen pot on his shoulders to water these saplings. The tree species he has planted are native like Neem, Rohida, Kankeri, Khejri, Fig, Bougainvillea and Babool.
He says, “The plants and the animals were on the planet much before we landed here. They have more rights on the planet than us and if we cannot give that to them at least we can ensure we don’t destroy them in our greed.”

Forgotten Leaders. Episode 2. Kliment Voroshilov. Documentary. English Subtitles. StarMediaEN
All Episodes of Forgotten Leaders
The project provisionally titled “Forgotten Leaders” is a series of seven films, each featuring an individual from the leaders of the Soviet state in power during the time period from 1920 to 1953. Each episode is a filmed portrait depicting the story of life, political and public activities of its hero. The heroes of “The Forgotten Leaders” are
individuals ambiguous from the perspective of the Russian and world’s history and odious and often sharply negative in the eyes of public consciousness. Unfortunately, when labeling, we often forget that “each individual
is a tangle of contradictions” and that “history is written by the victors”. Seven men. Seven lives. One era. What was behind their decisions and at what was the price they paid for their deeds?

Russian politics. ''Duel'' talk show. Zhirinovsky vs Raihelgauz. ''Gorbachev'' (English subs)
FOR SUBTITLES TURN CAPTIONS (CC) ON.
One more episode of ''Duel'' talk show with Vladimir Zhirinovsky participating.
This time he is going against Iosif Raihelgauz, some movie and theater director I've never heard before. The subject of this show is: Michail Gorbachev, and the role he played, mainly in the collapse of the Soviet Union, but also about good and bad things he had done.
For Zhirinovsky, this subject is almost as painful as October Revolution of 1917. So, he is like usual using his style. I gotta say, that he have been on this show for so many times, his experience really counts. One of Raihelgauz's supporters made him angry, talking about things Zhirinovsky tired of hearing of, and when Zhirinovsky responds to him, you can see that his hands were actually shaking! Raihelgauz, on the other hand, seeing that he's losing, at one moment I think he was ready to start crying. But of course he is no match. I think Zhirinovsky even realized it and backed down a little.
The arbitrator was some historian that repeated everything twice for some reason. He reminded me Johny ''Two Times'' from ''Goodfellas'' - ''I'm gonna get the paper get the paper'' lol.
Well... And Soloviev as always in his style.
Oh, and keep your hand on ''Pause'' button. They often talk at the same time, so you might need a moment to read everything.
This show was aired live on 30/05/2013.
Enjoy!
Thanks for watching!

More or less.
