The House of Jules Verne , located at 2 rue Charles-Dubois in Amiens , is the home in which Jules Verne lived from 1882 to 1900 . It now houses a museum that evokes the life, work and public action of the writer, who composed most of his works (more than 30 novels).
Built from 1845 to 1854 for the notary friend Jean-Baptiste-Gustave Riquier, like the other houses in the neighborhood, the tower house is built of red bricks, coated in pink on the street and clear joints on the courtyard. The lintels, cornices and window sills are made of limestone.
The first floor of the house was reserved for the rooms, which were accessed by the spiral staircase of the tower. The writer's study was on the second floor at the corner of Building. In 1882, Jules Verne and his wife, Honorine, settled in this house. They are tenants until 1900. Jules Verne 54, it is at his peak.
In 1980, the city of Amiens buys and opens to the public the house which is then managed by the Documentation Center Jules Verne and hosts the fund of the association. In the year 2000, the city acquired the collection of 30,000 original pieces collected by the Italian collector Piero Gondolo della Riva . The Jules-Verne International Center then developed Jules Verne's House
On four levels, from books and objects that belonged to Jules Verne or his time, the house recreates the atmosphere of a mansion of the late xix th century. The life and history of the city of the time is traced with photographs, posters and writings of the author.

France: Amiens - The Jules Verne House
Jules Gabriel Verne, (born 8 February 1828 in Nantes - died 24 March 1905 in Amiens) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright.
He was trained to follow in his father's footsteps as a lawyer, but quit the profession early in life to write for magazines and the stage. His collaboration with the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel led to the creation of the Voyages extraordinaires, a widely popular series of scrupulously researched adventure novels including Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873).
Verne is generally considered a major literary author in France and most of Europe, where he has had a wide influence on the literary avant-garde and on surrealism. His reputation is markedly different in Anglophone regions, where he has often been labeled a writer of genre fiction or children's books, largely because of the highly abridged and altered translations in which his novels are often reprinted.
Verne has been the second most-translated author in the world since 1979, ranking between Agatha Christie and William Shakespeare. He has sometimes been called the Father of Science Fiction, a title that has also been given to H. G. Wells, Mary Shelley, and Hugo Gernsback.

Places to see in ( Amiens - France )
Amiens is a city in northern France, divided by the Somme river. It’s known for the Gothic Amiens Cathedral and nearby medieval belfry. Shops and cafes line the Quartier St.-Leu’s narrow streets. Floating market gardens (“hortillonnages”) dot the city’s canals. The Musée de Picardie shows art and antiquities spanning centuries. Nearby, the Maison de Jules Verne is a museum where the science fiction author once lived.
Amiens is the capital of the Somme department in Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie. It has one of the biggest university hospitals in France with a capacity of 1200 beds. Amiens Cathedral, the tallest of the large, classic, Gothic churches of the 13th century and the largest in France of its kind, is a World Heritage Site. The author Jules Verne lived in Amiens from 1871 until his death in 1905, and served on the city council for 15 years. During December, the town hosts the largest Christmas market in northern France. Amiens is known for a few local foods, including macarons d'Amiens, almond paste biscuits; tuiles amienoises, chocolate and orange curved biscuits; pâté de canard d'Amiens, duck pate in pastry; la ficelle Picarde, an oven-baked cheese-topped crêpe; and flamiche aux poireaux, a puff pastry tart made with leeks and cream.
The strategic position of Amiens makes it an attractive destination for a weekend or a few days, from Paris, Lille or Brussels. Amiens also benefits from the proximity of the Baie de Somme, a tourist hotspot registered at the Club des plus belles baies du monde (fr) and labelled Great Site of France (fr).
Amiens has the label of Towns and Lands of Art and History since 1992. Within this framework, the host of the heritage organises guided tours to themes intended for an audience of adults and children with educational workshops. A signposted circuit allows an independent tour of the town, with information panels offering comment on places and notable buildings.
Amiens has an important historical and cultural heritage, an accessible and varied natural heritage, on which tourism is based. The main attractions are the cathedral, which is included in the world heritage of UNESCO, the hortillonnages (fr), Jules Verne House (fr), the Tour Perret, the Musée de Picardie, the zoo (fr), and the quarters of Saint-Leu and Saint-Maurice.
St-Leu is a part of Amiens north of the city centre. It has many older wooden and brick houses and several canals. At the foot of the cathedral, traversed by canals, this picturesque area was largely rehabilitated during the 1990s. It extends to the Somme canal, located more to the north, at the foot of the Coteau Saint-Pierre on which the fortress of Jean Errard (fr), called Citadelle, was built. Historically, it was the poor quarter of the city, where butchers, tanners and dyers gathered.
