CAT CAFE in Edinburgh: Maison de Moggy
THANKS TO JON FOR OUR NEW CHANNEL INTRO VIDEO!!!! (^_^)
We finally had our first cat café experience! We went to Maison de Moggy located at 17 West Port in the Grassmarket of Edinburgh, Scotland. It’s Scotland’s first cat café and currently the only café in Europe to have a Sphynx (hairless cat). A cat café is exactly like it sounds, it’s a place to go to to drink coffee, sip tea, eat a slice of delicious carrot cake and enjoy the company of some beautiful cats. Maison de Moggy has mostly pure bred cats which live and sleep at the café. These cats are therefore not up for adoption. Throughout the café they framed information on each cat including their name, breed, and likes and dislikes.
To visit the café you pay an hourly rate of £7 per person. The tea pots contain two cups of tea and cost around £2. Coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, and americanas are all under £3 (as are the cakes and cupcakes). Joe ordered a latte, I had a pot of Chamomile tea, and we split a slice of carrot cake. Everything was delicious! Cake is also a great way to attract the cats, but you aren’t allowed to feed them, which brings me to the house rules.
When you arrive at Maison de Moggy you wait for your time to start in a very cramped space so I wouldn’t recommend getting there early. Once inside, they request you remove your shoes or put provided booties as to not bring in outside dirt. You also have to disinfect your hands. They then explain the house rules which are posted all around the café; no picking the cats up, no flash photography, no feeding the cats, no waking sleeping cats or bothering the cats in general. It’s important to remember that this is their home and you’re just visiting. :)
You also cannot bring in outside animals and children under the age of 10 aren’t permitted.
It’s not mandatory to book an hour space in advance, but I’d highly recommend it as they fill up fast and have limited space. We booked ours through their website and it was really easy. I’d highly recommend visiting before their lunch break since the cats get really excited and active at the thought of food.
Maison de Moggy keeps their café very clean and even though Joe is allergic to cats he was fine. This is also due to their use of HEPA air purifiers.
On a personal note; I’d like it to be very well-known that Joe and I are huge animal lovers and would never recommend a place where we felt the animals weren’t treated well. Maison de Moggy’s cats were all visibly healthy and well cared for. If they weren’t in the mood to interact with people they had multiple locations they could go hide away in and rest. The cats are also given daily breaks from people and keep to a routine. When the café is closed they’re even monitored through the use of cat cameras.
This video staring Elodie the Sphynx, Alain, Pierre, and Amelie the Ragdolls, Coco Carbonelle and Sabastian the British Short Hairs, Pauline the Maine Coon, Guillaume the Chinchilla Persian, Marcel and Philippe the Bengal Siamese brothers, and Fabian and Jacques the Norwegian Forest Cats.

Inside Maison De Moggy
A tour inside Scotland’s first ever cat cafe, Maison De Moggy, with head Cat Nanny Francesca.
Maison De Moggy offers a unique café experience where customers can relax in the company of our speciality cats whilst enjoying the purrfect cuppa!
We are a traditional cat cafe, focusing our attention on our cats and the therapeutic qualities they can offer our customers. We therefore limit our menu to locally produced teas, coffees and delicious cakes. Please be assured that all food and drinks will be prepared in a cat-free environment. We always recommend making a reservation to visit the cafe. Please note that we do not reserve tables as customers are encouraged to roam the around and interact with our cats.
